My name is AJ. I've been taking 8mg subutex ( not suboxone) for two weeks. I start the methadone clinic in 5 days. How long should I be off subutex to start methadone? And if I still have subs in my system will I go into precipitated withdraws? ## Hi AJ, It looks like this question has already been asked/answered in several other discussion threads here, so what I'm doing is just linking you to the thread that I feel addresses this inquiry most accurately: Discuss/SETTING-RECORD-STRAIGHT-how-long-after-taking-subutex-can-u-take-methadone-280366.htm This social worker from a pain management clinic goes on to state that patients should wait 12 to 24 hours after Subutex before having Methadone in order to avoid precipitated withdrawals; due to the presence of Buprenorphine, which k... ...

Taking subutex and methadone

I've been taking methadone for 10 years, I recently ran out of my prescription. Is it safe to take subutex or will it send me into withdrawals? ## Hello, Lucy! How are you? You have to be in full withdrawals, before taking the Subutex. It contains the opiate Buprenorphine and it tends to cling to the opiate receptors very strongly and will displace most others, throwing you into precipitated withdrawals, which can be dangerous. The FDA warns that this medication may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

I took two 10mg methadones about eight hours ago for the very first time. Am i okay to take some subutex without there being any serious side effect? ## Probably too late but don't do it. You could get precipitated withdrawals. ## @james, In order to avoid precipitated withdrawal, my findings suggest that it may be a good idea to wait at least 3-5 days or longer before using Subutex, depending on how fast you metabolize Methadone. According to nhtsa.gov, Methadone's half life is reported to be an estimated 60 hours, which means it's probably better to play it safe rather than take any risks within the first 24 hours. But if you really need to use Subutex sooner, I'd encourage you to contact your doctor about getting a second opinion based on their own discretion from exp... ...

Hello my name is kev. I have been consuming about 3 to 6 mg of subutex daily for about 7 months. I'm very eager to eliminate the subutex and start on these methadone. Is it safe to consume methadone 20 mgs the day after taking about 3 mgs of subutex? I heard suboxone was the dangerous one, not subutex and I also heard the taking methadone after subutex is the safe apose to methadone to subutex. Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thank you. ## People are just stupid. The bup is what keeps you from feeling high on other full opiates. The naloxone is only in the suboxone to keep you from misusing the drug. If taken properly the naloxone will not affect you. noone seems to understand that subutex is just as useful for opiate w/d as suboxone and it is the active ingredient Buphreno... ...

I heard suboxone was the dangerous one, not subutex and I also heard the taking methadone after subutex is the safe apose to methadone to subutex. Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thank you. ## Hello, Kev! How are you? Yes, Suboxone contains Naloxone, along with Buprenorphine, so it neutralizes other narcotics and taking it too close to having taken others could throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. However, Subutex only contains the Buprenorphine. The FDA lists these as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the p... ...

I have been taking methadone for 10 days starting at 30 and ending at 60. I don't want to have to get up at 5am and drive 35min for the rest of my life so I'd like to get back on subutex. Can anyone tell me when I can take it? I have not taken methadone for 2 days now. ## Hello, Cory! How are you? You need to be in full withdrawal, before taking Subutex, otherwise it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. Thus, there's no precise time frame that can be given, because it may vary from person to person. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Ive been on 160mg of methadone for 2 years but i cant Feel it at all, if i switch to subutex will i feel Them? ## @drew, According to The National Alliance of Advocates for Buprenorphine Treatment (naabt.org), it is recommended that patients slowly reduce their Methadone dosage down to 30mgs for a period of at least a week, BEFORE attempting to discontinue it completely - AND THEN waiting at least 36 hours before starting Buprenorphine. They also go on to emphasize that patients "MUST" be in a mild to moderate state of withdrawal before taking their first dose of Buprenorphine. That said, I would just encourage you to follow these protocols down to the 'T' as well as asking your doctor for their opinion in case minor adjustments need to be made to fit your specific situa... ...

Hi, I've been prescribed opiates for years now. With a few breaks between (with Subs, methadone, etc) after weaning my usage down. I took 2 days of methadone. Can I still take 2 mg (and slowly increase) my subutex use 24hrs after my last dose of 30mg methadone? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Just like when starting Suboxone, you have to be in full withdrawal, before taking Subutex, unless your doctor directs otherwise, or it could throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. Hi all, I am 39, male and am going to take 8 MG's subutex after being on methadone for 4 years( I'm just over it, tired) 60 MG's next day took 30 MG's next day took 20mgs and finally 10 MG's to taper a bit. I then waited 43 hours and am in moderate withdrawal. I have been in much worse withdrawal then now but decided to go ahead with 8 MG's of sub now to see, lab rat style, if I precip or get relief. There seems to be many different experiences, some say 24 hours some say 72. I will try to give an update if I precip and will for sure if I don't. Fingers crossed, I hope its the latter. Any input or encoragement would be appreciated. I am determined to finally beat this thing, don't want to turn 40 and still be an active addict. Much love to all of you. Lov... ...

I took 30mg of methadone in the morning and an 8mg subutex in the afternoon. I don't feel sick. Am I supposed to? ## My DR started me on 10mg of methadone. couple of days later, my mouth was parcially numb and my taste was all messed up. I didnt even consider it to be the methadone. I thought it was something I ate. but then after a few more days, I figured it had to be the methadone. Has anyone else had methadone cause their inside moth to be numb or totally mess with their taste buds? If so, how long after stopping methadone till your taste came back to normal? ## @BK, There's actually another discussion thread here on this same topic with over 40 comments. I go to the clinic and get methadone but missed a day, so i took a half a subutex. Within 15 min it sent me into immediate withdrawal. How long should i wait to take my methadone again. Is it going to send me into worse withdrawal? ## If you took Subutex, then it did not send you into withdrawals, you are most likely experiencing withdrawal from missing your Methadone, you probably didn't take an equivalent dose of the Subutex. Subutex only contains the opiate Buprenorphine, it doesn't contain the Naloxone like Suboxone does, which is what could cause someone to go into precipitated withdrawals. These medications are listed by the FDA as carrying the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. You shoul... ...

SETTING RECORD STRAIGHT!! how long after taking subutex can u take methadone
15 Replies RSS
Both subutex and suboxone will cause precipitated withdrawal. It is the bupe that connects to the receptors and kicks the methadone out. Naloxone is just an extra blocker!! I am a social worker at a clinic. Waiting at least 12 hours only if on low dose 20mg or less should b OK. But 24 preferred. ## If you take a little less then half of a 8mg subutext 15 hours ago is it safe to take 20mgs of methadone does anyone know! ! ! ## Why do people always minimize Naloxone? EMTs give the ODs Narcan, which brings the patient into withdrawal. Naltrexone (Vivitrol) has been used with chronic opiate addicts and alcoholics in several forms, pill, 30 day shot, implant. It is a VERY strong blocker and has many side effects. I have personal experience with this medication & know that it is not somet... ...

I would like to know cause I take methadone and I've got subutex that a friend gave me but I thought it might hurt me ## I know for certain never to take suboxone..I take 90 mg of methadone and done a quarter of suboxone and litrally died they brung me back but I still have side effects from that nite ## @loco, I have to concur with becca on the fact that it's probably not safe to use either of these drugs within at least a few days of each other. One counteracts the other so much that it could potentially put your body into a life-threatening state of withdrawal (if taken at the wrong time). I have seen testimonies from other people who accidentally attempted this and later paid the price. Apparently when your receptors are filled with methadone, buprenorphine may take the meth... ...

can u take subutex after using methadone for two days

I have been on about three quarters of generic subutex pills per day for over a year now. I ran out of subutex and took 40 mg of methadone the first day and 30 mg the next. I now have my subutex and I am wondering how long I should wait to take it... My husband had done this in the past were he only used the methadone a few days and switched right back to subutex the next day ( at least 24 after) . I just wanted to see if anyone else has had any experience with this. I do not want to be sick I've been through precipitated withdrawls before. TIA ## Subutex only contains the narcotic Buprenorphine, it doesn't contain the Naloxone that is in Suboxone, which would cause the precipitated withdrawals. have taken 4 10 mg of methadone pills and want to know when i can start taking subutext. b4 that taking 80 mg of oxy's off and on for 3 mo hear you can get very sick with subboxone if taken too soon but with subutext it is different? hear you can take as soon as you go into withdrawl ## That is correct, Suboxone contains Buprenorphine and Naloxone, which counterats opiates and can make you go into withdrawals, the Subutex does not. That said, it is actually the Suboxone that you are supposed to wait until you are in withdrawals to take, so it doesn't cause you to go into them by neutralizing the other opiates you have taken can cause a bad reaction. Subutex is generally started immediately, in place of the narcotics someone is taking and then gradually tapered. Are you seeing a ... ...

Switching from methadone to subutex
3 Replies RSS
I have been on methadone treatment for about 2 years. I originally started going to a clinic and took the liquid. I was at about 200 mg per dose. I couldn't keep going to the clinic, and keep a steady job. I ended up finding a pain management doctor that prescribed me the pill form. We worked out a plan to taper down because methadone is just not good if you want to have energy, an increased libido, sweat, and all the lovely other symptoms. I ended up tapering down to about 60 mg per day then my doctor decided that he wanted me to switch from methadone to subutex. So, we made a plan to get down another 30 mg. I took the 30 mg for a week, then he told me he was ready to prescribe the subutex. My last dose of methadone was Friday morning at 6 a.m. I ended up making it 56 hours before ... ...

Hi my name is Chloe. I have been on a script now for just over a year. was on methadone. But now am on subutex. Im abit worried as you are meant to let subutex dissolve under your tongue. But I have never been able to do that as I gag and throw up. I crunch them with the front of my teeth and swallow very quickly with water. Can this cause me problems coming off subutex or cause me harm inside my tummy? I was on 6mg 3 tablets daily now im on 2mg 1 tablet daily. Also I keep having spouts of time where im sick every morning badly being sick. No explanation. And then im fine a wk or 2 then the vomiting again.
