If I wake up at 1pm and take my 1st pill, 2nd pill at 6pm, then 3rd pill at 1am... Then, I wake up at 10AM and take my 1st pill of the day, would that be me consuming 4 pills in 24 hours like an overdose or is it okay??? I do that alot. I'd wake up the next day and at 10AM take my 1st one then another at 5 then last one at 11pm. I'm not on a schedule with you medicine, I just take it when I wake up and throughout the day. My mother is taking a medication: one tablet every 12 hrs with food. We were wondering what times are best: 8am & 8pm or 9am & 9pm? Ehat do you suggest? ## It depends on if she has to take them with food or after meals. It also depends on what other medications she is taking. Some medications can't be taken with others. It would be best to call her pharmacist and ask because they should have a list of all of the medications she is taking. ## With food can also mean with glass of milk or a cracker. I was diagnosed with shingles and was prescribed with ACYCLOVIR 400 MG TABLETS and it says to take 2 tablets by mouth five times per day for 7 days.. But I don't understand? How many hours apart do I wait for each set of two tablets? ## I was just given the same med, but mine is 1 tab 5x day. My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

I am on an antibiotic for herpes. The instructions say to take one pill 5 times per day. Do I need to wake up at night to take it? I can only take it during the day between 5 am and 9 pm. ## Hi Patty - Exactly which medication have you been prescribed? To answer your question, no, you should not have to wake up to take a dose unless is specifically says so in the instructions given to you. Otherwise, you can space the 5 doses among the hours that you are awake. So, if you are awake from 5 am to 9 pm, that is 16 hours of being awake. 16 hours / 5 doses = one dose approximately every 3 hours or so.
