I was diagnosed with shingles and was prescribed with ACYCLOVIR 400 MG TABLETS and it says to take 2 tablets by mouth five times per day for 7 days.. But I don't understand? How many hours apart do I wait for each set of two tablets? ## I was just given the same med, but mine is 1 tab 5x day. My doctor said I didn't have to wake up at night for a dose, so I set this up: 6am,10am, 2pm, 6pm and the last one for the day @ 10pm. Hope this helps. ## My prescription for CARB/LEVO 25 - 100 mg reads: Take 1 and 1/2 tablets by mouth 5 times a day. The first pill would be at 8:00 AM. When would the times be for pills 2, 3, 4 and 5 - if bedtime is involved, which would be at 22:30 / 10:30 PM? Thank you for your assistance.

Acyclovir 200 mg. 2x a day. Can the side effect,"change in the amount of urine" in older people, apply to INCREASE in the amount of urine?(male, age 90) undergoing chemo. ## Hello, Ann! How are you? No, that's not a common side effect of Acyclovir, the FDA lists the most common ones as including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and headache. However, most times, when someone is prescribed this medication, they are told to drink a lot of water, or are given a lot of water by their care givers, which could explain the change in urine volume. In rare cases, this medication has caused kidney crystals, which could lead to kidney failure, so most people are told to take it with lot of water, to help prevent this from occurring. Is there anything else I can help with?

My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

I purchased clorixan 200 ml in Mexico for cold sores. I take one pill as soon as I feel a sore developing. It has worked so well that I would like to keep them on hand. What exactly is clorixan? ## Clorixan contains Acyclovir, it is an antiviral that is commonly used to treat most herpes simplex viruses, both genital, and oral, which is why it works so well. I take it myself, twice a day, every day, as a preventative, because one of the medications I am on can cause horrible cold sore outbreaks, which landed me in the ER several times, with several swelling in and around my mouth. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, taste disturbance and drowsiness. It is available in the U.S. by prescription, so you might wan...

What condition(s) would require a dosage of 800mg. Acyclovir tabs. once or twice a day? ## How many times a day do I take 500mg of Acyclovir and how many days if I have a cold sore? ## Acyclovir/Aciclovir is an antiviral medication, so it may be used to help treat any viral condition ranging from AIDs to herpes, including simplex 1. Learn more Acyclovir details here. As to how often to take it for a cold sore and for how long, you should follow the instructions provided by your doctor. How are you? It can cause some itching, as a side effect, but it would be systemic and not just on side of your body. Other possible side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache an hypotension. Are you on any other medications? Do you also have a rash? Have you consulted your physician?
