This is an antibiotic in the sulfa class of antibiotics used to treat urinary tract infections, kidney infects, and many other types of infections like protein in the urine. It can cause anaphylactic shock if you are seriously allergic to it like I am, cause shortness of breath, hives and/or rash.

I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!
