Systolic

blood pressure meds are making my systolic and dystolic approach one another i.e. 105/95. When will this be a problem? or is it even a problem? ## It doesn't necessarily signify a problem, or any danger, when they are close together, though it could be a sign of other health problems. Have you consulted your doctor? The 95 is still far too high and a cause or solution needs to found to lower it.

My husband began taking 5mg of systolic for high blood pressure about3 weeks ago. I have noticed his mood change in a negative way. He seems withdrawn and I am concerned. Not sure if it is the medicine. Any opinions on the possibility of this being the cause? ## Hello, Marie! How are you? Did you mean Bysolic? The FDA classifies it as a beta blocker and they don't work well for some people. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. You may want to inform his doctor, as this might not be the right medication for him to take and he may need to try something else.

My systolic BP is sometimes, 160, 150, 140. My diastolic is fine. My Dr. wants to increase the lisinopril to 60 mg (taking one of 40 and one of 20). I read that taking 80mg of lisinopril is no better than taking 40 mg, so my question is how 60 mg of lisinopril is going to help, if 80 or 40 have the same effect? ## Yes, the maximum daily dosage is 40mgs, it's not been found to have any benefit over that dosage. Have you discussed this with your doctor? There are other medications you can try that may give you better BP control. ## I was taking 40 mg lisinopril and my BP was still very high. Approx 200/90 at night. Dr upped lisinopril to 40 mg in the morning and 20 mg more in the afternoon. Now my BP is about 105/50 in the morning and about 150/85 in the evening. I'm feeling shaky...

Does repase h 50 mg increase systolic or decrease diastolic. ## Hello, Di! How are you? The FDA lists Repace H as containing Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. It is used to lower blood pressure and should be effective at lowering both numbers. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, dehydration and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed Amlodipine 2.5 mg for my BP,2 months ago.As my BP was not controlled gradually my dose was increased to 7.5 mg and still it is 160 to165 systolic and 85 to92 diastolic and sometimes it is around 150/80. Can I try Nifedipine instead of Amlodipine. If so what is the dose to start with? ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? Both the Amlodipine and Nifedipine are calcium channel blockers, so if one hasn't been working for you, the other might not, either. In this case, you should consult your doctor, because you might be better of trying a different class of medication, such as a beta blocker.

Have been on Metoprolol tartate 25 mg for a yeay now, I take half a pill 12.5 mg bid. For one week I have been feeling light headed and my BP has been from 150/55 to 110/47 most of the time the systolic has been in the low 50's or 47. Should I bee concerned.I am 77 years old and very active, walk daily 2-3 miles. Thank you Henriette ## Hello, Henriette! How are you? Sorry about the problem you're having. And yes, you should consult your doctor. At your age, you can become much more sensitive to medications, so they may actually work better for you than they would for a younger person and that may be what's causing the low number. You may need to switch to a different medication, or lower the dosage of this even further. Learn more Metoprolol details here. I've found a ver...

Since moving from Lotrel brand to generic, it seems that my loved one's BP fluctuates, and those fluctuations include more high readings. On some days, BP systolic is in 120s, but other days in the 150s, about the same as no medication at all. Is it possible that the generic Lotrel has unreliable dosage? ## First of all, blood pressure numbers will always fluctuate. You will never check it and see consistent steady numbers. Second, is the person eating properly, a health, low-fat, low-sodium diet and getting plenty of proper exercise? Both are required to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels. If they are eating well, getting exercise and taking the medication as prescribed, it could be that they just require a dosage adjustment or a different medication. Not all medications w...

I have been taking lisinopril 20mg - 2x for a long time. Earlier this year I was given carvedilol 6.25mg - 2x along with above. Shortly thereafter, I reduced the carvedilol ato 1x. A month ago my systolic bp rose. Dr. said to increase carvedilol by taking 2 a day. Upon doing this I started experiencing a rash and itching all over. Dr. then took me off this and prescribed metoprolol tar 25mg 2x with the same reaction of rash and itching and no improvement in bp. Why all the sudden reaction to these drugs? ## Hello, John! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Both the Carvedilol and Metoprolol are classified by the FDA as beta blockers, so my best guess is that you may have developed an allergy to this medication category. This happens frequently, such as when s...
