I started taking Synthroid 75 mg just about a week ago. Since I started taking it, I notice that the skin on my neck has become bumpy and almost scaly. Its not flaky but its rough. It isn't itching or anything but I have never had skin on my neck like this. Should I be concerned? Is this an allergic reaction? Im not sure what I should do about it. ## Hi Kristin, Do you think it may be due to some sort of sensitivity to heat (similar to heat hives)? Just wondering because that is actually listed as a side effect of this medication. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682461.html#side-effects It also mentions that you should tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away. So that may have to be your next step if it's remains a deep concern. I hope t...

Idk where to start and after taking my morning synthroid 0.075mcg it's so sweet. I get my prescription filled via mail-order at OptumRX. I have been using them for a year and a half since I changed insurance. This is when I started noticing the sweet taste. I'm thinking they are sugar pills or placebos. My weight just keeps slowing going up up up! And I CAN'T get it off. I am Diabetic with HBP and I have tried to get my dr to increase my synthroid but she won't. So this morning (which I know was wrong) I ended up taking a total of 4. I'm telling you it's some form of sugar! I see this same question over and over but it's like the question is NOT properly answered! What's going on with our meds? The pharmaceutical companies already make a killing on prices...

I take .25 very low dose of synthroid. I took 3 cardispan and have been losing weight. Is this good or bad? When taken both, what does it do to the body? ## Cardispan contains the active ingredient Levocarnitine to boost metabolism, there are not interactions listed between using it with the Levothyroxine in the Synthroid, but you should check with your doctor to be certain. Using the Cardispan this way is actually not approved in the U.S., so there may be some problems that are not listed in the regular medication databases. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is anyone had allergic reactions to Levothyroxine? My neck is on fire and itching and the only change has been from Synthroid .75 to Levothyroxine .88. Last test showed 8.2 level after being on .75 for 6+ years. ## It's possible to have an allergic reaction to anything you take, but isn't necessarily dependent on whether or not it has happened to anyone else. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. However, since it's involving your neck, there is a chance that it may worsen and if it spreads internally, it could obstruct your breathing. Thus, you need to contact your doctor to discuss the problem. How are you feeling today?

I have been taking synthroid 75mcg for the past 14 years.Recently had blood work and the Dr. wanted to lower my dose.I still haven't change the dose due to more important family situations, Was wondering if anyone had experienced joint pain especially in their fingers and toes? Thought maybe it is due to too much synthroid in my system, Trying to get in touch with my Dr. Will lower the dosage as she advised. Thanks! ## I use to hurt unbearably until my neuorologist gave me oxycotin 40mg. 3x a day with 15 mg. of morphine as a break through 3x a day prn.. there is no more pain! I'm taking 137 mgs right now but when my thyroid was down the Dr. gave me a different mg level, but I can't remember if this is what it was, but it sure gave me energy and I lost weight, but then he changed it and said that I'm where I should be and if I continued it I would get osteoarthritis as the dr said that I'm right on the borderline. I wish I could remember the mgs, because I felt so good and didn't have any problems on that mg level and I ask him if I could go back on it and he said no. Thank You Linda ## Well, there is, of course, no way for us to know for sure, what that dosage was, but I am betting you just hit a dosage that worked better for you than your current one. Whether it was a higher or lower dosage, our bodies do sometimes do better with a certa...

I have been taking this medication for quite a while and I believe my minor thyroid problem is under control. I have read and been told that this perticular medication can give you extra energy and weight loss. This is definately not happening in my case, in fact just the opposite. I have never felt this was due to medication though. An acquaintance told me that my medication would work in this manner if I took it at least one hour prior to taking my other medications and vitamins or drinking anything ie: coffee, tea, juice, etc. Could this be true and my doctor has just been remiss in relating this info to me, or have I been remiss in reading the RX insert? ## Well the basic point here is it says it can or may do that, it does not say that it will do that, which means that it works to ...

I have celiac disease and my endo doc recently switched me from Levoxyl to Synthroid. I have read that Synthroid is not guaranteed to be gluten free. Anyone have the answer? ## They both contain the active ingredient Levothyroxine, so you really haven't been switched from one medication to another, your doctor just used a different name brand for it. As to whether or not it is gluten free, that's going to depend on which one you receive from your pharmacy. Do you know if they usually give you the name brand or a generic? Does anyone have any experience taking 50mg Synthroid and 300mg Venlaflaxine? ## Hello, Tina! How are you? I've not taken them, but I did check for any interactions or problems and it seems there are none listed, though it's always best to double check such information to be sure. Have they both been prescribed for you? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Synthroid as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss and weight changes. Venlafaxine is an SNRI antidepressant and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Can anyone that's been on them chime in?

My tongue is always yellow. It's not my oral hygiene. I have been on Synthroid for years. Could it be the cause? ## Hello, Donia! How are you? Is the only medication you take regularly? I didn't find anything specifically listed about Synthroid/Levothyroxine causing this, but there are so many things that can, including foods, beverages, and oral care items that it's hard to be sure. Ref: Medline Plus Synthroid Is there anything that you eat, or drink every day that might be causing it? Have you spoken to your doctor, or dentist about it? ## I have same problem, I want to stop my medicine, it has been 5 days I am not taking, instead I am taking 2 drops of Lugol’s Idoine in the mornings.

I am about to start on Synthroid, and was wondering if anyone ever went off it once they went on -- would your symptoms be the same as they were before, just not better as they (hopefully) were on Synthroid? I'm leery of having to be on medication for the rest of my life ... wondering if it's worth it to just put up with the symptoms unless they get intolerable. ## My wife was on Synthroid for 6 years. We were frustrated with the lack of improvement of hypothyroid symptoms. We did not like the side effects like heart palpitations. We tried Armour and now Nature Thyroid and have seen a reduction in hypothyroid symptoms. Synthroid is not an exact match to thyroid hormone and will not help people who have conditions that inhibit the bodies ability to convert T4 to T3 the active ver...

I need to know if essential oils will harm my tsh levels. Finally acceptable after thyroid removal in 2008 (cancerous). I have trouble sleeping and a friend suggested them. ## Hello, Robdel! How are you? I'm sorry, but no evaluations have been done to check essential oils to see if they do. I'd assume they most likely don't, because you don't really absorb much of the oils, at all, but you may want to double check with your doctor to be sure. Does anyone else know more?
