Swelling Gum

I am traveling in Peru and had really bad swelling on my gums at the back. I see a dentist and my wisdom tooth is growing at an angle. But due to my age an operation would mean resting for a few days and because I am on vacation they advised me to keep the wisdom tooth in and cut the tissue around it and clean it. I was also prescribed antibiotics and painkillers for the swollen gum caused by the wisdom tooth. They said the swelling and pain would go but I will have to take the tooth out soon. I have now taken 13 out of 15 antibiotics but still have some swelling and pain on the gums. I am worried the tooth is preventing the swelling to go down and maybe I should get the tooth removed sooner rather then later.

I was told that Norvasc can cause extra growth of gum tissue, is that so? ## I noticed swelling in my gum. The doctor reduced the dosage from 5mg-2.50mg and my gum was ok afterwards ## Yes, Norvasc has been reported to cause overgrowth of gum tissue (gingival hyperplasia) as a side effect, but it is very rare, occurring in less than 0.01% of those that take it. More common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and bleeding gums. Ref: Medline Plus Amlodipine/Norvasc Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a gum infection due to my wisdom tooth growing in but it is just the gum, not my tooth. I was in pain and my dentist told me to take Amoxicillin, he also told me that it may be painful and that i should take advil with it if i cant bare the pain. It has now been 1 day and i have taken 3 Amoxicillin pills in total. I woke up this morning and my gum was very swollen and in a lot of pain. I am also having a very rough time swallowing anything, even my own saliva. I wanted to know if it's normal for my gum to be in this much pain after 1 day of taking the drug and if it should decrease the more I take Amoxicillin (3 times a day)? I can see that my gum has increased in swelling/pain ever since I have taken the drug, my pain was not this bad 2 days ago before I even went to the den...

I've been on amoxicillin for 3 days now for a gum infection.. within the first day my whole right side of my face swelled up and on the second day my eye was so swollen I could barely open it... its the third day and now not only am I dealing with all this swelling but now my gums are bleeding... is this normal? ## Hi micki, To be completely honest, the reactions you're experiencing don't seem "normal" by any means, but are unfortunately side effects of Amoxicillin. You should speak with your doctor immediately, so the condition doesn't worsen. He/she may need to prescribe a different antibiotic or lower the dosage. You may also want to consider taking a probiotic while on the antibiotic, to reinstate good bacteria in your body. Have you had negative reactions wi...

So I found out that I may have a gum infection and my dentist prescribed me with Amoxicillin in hoping the infection would ease down, as there is a small swelling on my top left side gum and it hasn't seem to settle down. The pain in my gums is excruciating as it comes on in a pulsating form within the two to three teeth parts along the gumline and it will last for about 30-50 seconds and then it will go away. This sort of pain has been ongoing for months going onto a year and I have been to three different dentists and they give me the same answer that its a gum infection? But can a gum infection last this long? I have tried everything of what the dentists has told me to help me relieve the pain but the pain still occurs on a on and off everyday basis, Sometimes what triggers the p...

The pill I have is peach and imprinted with g/32 500. I just want to know, since it's a pain pill, will it help with the pain in my gums? ## Hello, Sista! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem you are experiencing. This tablet is manufactured by Glenmark Generics and they list it as containing 500mgs of Naproxen, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever, and swelling. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding. Do you know what has caused the pain in your gums? Have you consulted a dentist? Did you have an extraction, or other dental work done, recently? Are you on any medications?

I have a gum infection because I have a bad tooth that needs to be pulled. The dentist prescribed me Amoxicillin 875 mg. I'm just wondering how long will it take for my gums to return back to normal. I've been taking the pills for 7 days and I have 3 days left. ## Hello, Shauna! How are you doing? The general rule for antibiotics is that you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. If you still have swelling, it may not be the right one to treat the infection you have and you may need to ask about taking something else. When are you having the tooth extracted? It would be best to do it after the infection has improved, otherwise it may not numb properly. ## As rightlly said by Verwon, at seven days you shud ave had an improvement if not complete heali...

Hi. My gum is swelling and painful for 3 days now. It triggered after I floss. The swelling is in my single fixed bridge area and adjacent teeth. Will the 250mg amoxicilin, 3x/day works for me? Or should it be increased to 500mg instead? Please help, thanks.

I'm having problems with painful gums and sinus swelling, pressure and pain. Probable TMJ. Before I try to see a dentist (I have no dental ins), which antibiotic should I ask my doctor to prescribe to clear up the infection? I know she will know, but I like to know before I ask. Thank you for any advice. ## Hello, Mimi! How are you? TMJ is not due to an infection and antibiotics will not treat it. TMJ is due to a problem in the jaw joint that causes pain and inflammation and it needs to be treated totally differently to reduce the inflammation and prevent the problem from recurring and worsening. Thus, you need to consult your dentist for proper treatment, if it is TMJ. An antibiotic will only treat a bacterial infection and there isn't any particular one that would be better th...

The pain did not come down, only increased. I think it was because antibiotic tabs were given to the patient along with ace clofenac and para centamol tablets. ## No, it isn't likely that the antibiotic caused the pain to increase, that's not how they work and generally after taking them for 3 days, she should start to see improvement. However, she may have still experienced some slight worsening of the infection, which could have caused increased pain. Another possibility is that it was due to the fact that both the Aceclofenac and the Paracetamol can cause some blood thinning, which could have increased blood flow to the area, this may have increased the sensitivity and swelling, so the pain increased. These also aren't very strong pain relievers, so may not have been very...

I used Bactrim; it takes more time to work than clindamycin. It has taken four days for the swelling to go down, but it has gone down and is almost normal now.
