I had Brain Surgery about 3 years ago on my right temporal lobe. I had a small scared piece of brain tissue that was removed. The surgery was successful and I didn't have any side effects.I was seizure free for 2 years. I recently started having break through seizures within the past 6 months. The seizures are the same and a lot milder but it does concern me. If anyone else has experienced this and could give me insight I would greatly appreciate it. I'm afraid that my seizures have come back. ## Here's more detail for those of you who might have just glanced at this topic. Prior to having surgery I had seizures for 12 years. I was 24 when I had brain surgery. 3 years prior to surgery I under went extensive testing so the doctors could locate the area where the seizures were...

I have Aorta Stinosis, in 14 days i am having open heart surgery to repair the aortic valve. My Doctor advised me to stop all anti coagulants (blood thinners), I take one 40mg ATORVASTATIEN (astorvastatien) once day. Do I continue with this medication prior to my operation. Thanking you. ## Hello, Leon! How are you? This medication so not a blood thinner, it is used to help lower cholesterol, but it would be best to double check with your cardiologist to be careful. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, I've been thinking about lasik for a long because I hate my contacts and don't want to wear them all the time. I visited a local treatment centre, and they informed me that I am a suitable candidate for Lasik eye surgery. In any case, I'm willing to undergo whatever operation to get rid of my spectacles; they're causing me a lot of frustration right now. Since I was a child, I've worn glasses. I only recently learned about these refractive operations. I also wish I had known about it earlier. What are your thoughts on Lasik? Thanks ## I had laser surgery twice, once for a torn retina and the second time for high pressure in my same eye. I now suffer from very bad dry eye syndrome to the point that I’m now being treated for it with moderate success. I was ne...

I asked on a post several months ago about a surgery called "Whipple". I have read all the info I can conjure up on the internet (there's nothing in the library)...but i still don't feel comfortable about having this procedure done. I am in constant pain (re: douendal flipping) when i make certain body movements. It is a very rare disease and it's causing excruciating pain. I have been told the surgery will last from 5 to 11 hours. Any feedback is welcome whether it's positive or negative. I just need advise asap please. ## Whipple surgery is most commonly used to treat pancreatic cancer that affects the head of the pancreas, though it can also be used to treat some other conditions, as well. According to NIH information, the surgery basically removes certain par...

I am having painful foot surgery next month. I want to make sure my pain medication works for me. I have tapered down my suboxine to 1/5 of a 2mg. strip every other day. If I am off completely for a few days before surgery, will the pain medication work? ## It would be best to double check with your doctor to make sure you stop taking it for the proper amount of time, before surgery. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How long have you been on the Suboxone?

My wife is about to have some major shoulder surgery and I'm concerned because the surgeon is only talking about putting her on percocet and nothing else. I'm worried that this won't help her get "over the hump" pain-wise and don't want her to be in agony. Is percocet enough to get past the pain of shoulder surgery? ## It will really depend on her and her pain levels. It does work great for some people for post surgical pain, but not all. If it doesn't help her, she should be sure to inform her doctor, so he can prescribe something else. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I c...

Do I have to go to original doctor that did my lens surgery as his bedside manner is atrousis and do I need to get records from him and could you recommend someone who is good in the indpls in area that are not named deitch or waldon thanks ## Hello, Garold! How are you? It really depends, some doctors will be willing to take you on as a patient, but some won't and will advise you to return to your prior surgeons. There's no way to know, until you actually go see a new doctor and ask them. As to your records, no you don't have to go see him to get them. Any new doctor you go to can request them, with your signed permission, and have them sent straight to their office. Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area that might help?

I am on Suboxone 8/2. I am scheduled to have serious back surgery, Spinal Fusion. Does Suboxone address the pain caused by surgery? Or will I need to go back to vicodin and oxycotin? ## Hello, Red! How are you? It is entirely up to your doctor, but most people don't get a lot of pain relief from Suboxone and do end up needing to take something else for awhile, after surgery. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can anyone that's been on it and had surgery chime in with their experience?

I am having breast augmentation surgery on March 14. I have been on subox for 3 years. They tapered me down to nothing in 9 days..will I experience WD and will my post surgery pain pills work? PS....today is March 4th.. ## Yes, you may still experience some withdrawal symptoms, since that taper was rather rapid. The FDA lists them as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, rebound pain, depression, fever, chills and diarrhea. And yes, by then, other opiates should be able to work to alleviate your pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply. You were right. I did experience withdrawal but also my other pain pills work after my surgery. Thank you so much for responding it's greatly appreciated

I had a blockage in the main artery in my stomach going down into my left leg 2 months ago. I had to have a stent put in and was put on Plavix and Aspirin. After a month I discontinued the Plavix and have continued on Aspirin, the question is that I want to have breast augementation done would it hurt me to have it done knowing that I am taking an 81mg Aspirin? ## Hi Deb, Usually when your considering an operation, the surgeon will give you pre-op instructions as to what is and is not allowed or recommended. From past experiences of friends and family going into surgery, I know that they haven't been able to take any sort of medication (even vitamins) befpre an operation, so personally, I wouldn't suggest taking anything. I hope this advice helps!

When stopping xarelto is it a process to quitting all of the sudden. I was told there were risk. I ask because I had 3 clots in the lungs and 3 in my legs about a month ago. But now I have a torn meniscus and need surgery The surgeon says ill have to be off the med for at least 7 days but my physician may think its too early ## It would be best to follow your surgeon's instructions, and just make sure your doctor is monitoring you regularly. There may be a slight risk from stopping the Xarelto, such as increased risk of clotting, but there is a definite risk if you are on it too close to surgery, since that increases your risk of bleeding and hemorrhage. Are you on any other medications? What is the current status of the blood clots? ## Is an INR required prior to eye surgery using ...

I have an ever increasing number of BCC's, treated by surgery and PDT. The last one under the eyelid. I have an increasing fear that one will go un noticed and cause death or mutilation. I am being offered a course of Erivedge which appears to have really bad side effects, which, with Gorlin's Syndrome means a lifetime of treatment. I also have Parkinson's, which means a pretty low llifestyle without the addition of Erivedge Any advice? ## Hello, Ferneyberger! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. The side effects for Erivedge aren't really any different than those for other similar treatment drugs and the most common ones experienced were actually fairly milked and included nausea, diarrhea, muscle spasms, fatigue and hair loss. What have people done who need surgery (probably open surgery for gall bladder) and taking Pradaxa. I have fears about having a stroke if I stop taking it and I know that I will have to take it. Thoughts please? ## In most cases, they have you stop it for a few days, before surgery, then resume taking it, once any risk of bleeding has passed, but you should follow your doctor's instructions on what to do, according to the NIH. Gall bladder surgery is rarely fully open, now, it usually just requires a small incision to insert a microscopic instrument. The amount of bleeding and healing time is usually very minimal. Have you been provided any pre-op instructions, yet? ## No, don't know for sure if I will need it (feeling better). I have a large wide-month hernia in my abdomen (tha...

I’ve been on zubsolv for close to 8 years (farrrr longer than I would’ve liked). This was to treat my bad habits during my teen years. I’m on the smallest does, with one pill lasting about 3 days. I had surgery yesterday and was very up front that I want no narcotics under any circumstances. Well they gave me a dose of something (what exactly, I don’t know) while I was under because they said it was necessary. Seemed pointless since they knew I took zubsolv the evening prior. Anyway, the narcotic dose they gave me was between 7-10am yesterday (surgery began at 7, I was released at 10am). It’s now been 24 hours since then. Can I take my zubsolv? I’m terrified of going into precipitated withdrawals. Is there a time frame, as in hours, you’re suppo...

Has anyone had surgery while on Xolair im giong for hip replacement & can find no posts on this Someone said maybe i should stop before surgery Xolair progam can not answer this question Has anyone had any surgery done while on Xolair ## @pudzzy, If you're truly concerned about taking this medication during a surgery, I would highly recommend discussing this with your surgeon prior to the operation. Reason being is that different surgeons have different pre and post operative instructions, where as some don't even allow you to take a multivitamin supplement, let alone a prescription medication. They each have their safety reasons I'm sure, but it's probably wise to make others aware of the medications you're taking, especially when it's going to be before a m...

My brother in law who is now aged 68 years underwent a byepass surgery two years back and after around a month he developed neuro problems like doule vision etc. He was advised the following additional medicines by the neuro specialist in addition to the medicines prescribed by the cardiology doctor: Pletox 50, Orokinase, Tonact TG 50, Trentol 400. Please advise how long the above tablets have to be taken. ## As to how long he should take them, that really depends on his condition and how long his doctor advises their use, it can vary from person to person, depending on how severe their condition is and how they respond to the medications. Some people may need to take them for the rest of their lives. Pletox contains the active ingredient Cilostazol, it's used to prevent clotting in...

I'm having surgery for knee replacement and this is the first time I've had surgery and general anaesthetic while on methadone. Can anyone advise me about the safety of this and how they will treat post-operative pain? ## I have had two surgerys while on methadone, you will be fine they gave me percocet for pain and it took the edge off which is what it should do, alot of people think they should be pain free after a surgrey while taking pain pills but that is not the case hope all goes well ## Hello. If you are on methadone maintenance for opiate addiction, you will need to tell the surgon so he/she knows how to treat your pain and your general sedation. Methadone won't help your post op pain, so he/she will have to prescribe another type of painkiller. One of the reasons i...

Hello, I am 31 yrs old. I have had 2 back surgeries. The last was a spinal fusion of my lower back in 2012. I have 6 bolts and two rods in my back. Lortab 10 mg does not help at all. I can not do anything due to so much pain in my entire back, and down my right leg. I was given a Roxicodone 30 mg and all my pain was gone for about 8 hours. ## David, Sorry to hear about the pain your in but like myself chronic pain when it involves issues of the back postoperatively most doctors are Leary to Rx potent opiates/opioids for long term pain control.actually your fortunate to have access to hydrocodone.sadly most docs aren't even willing to prescribe that 5 years post surgical procedure as I believe you stated. The only suggestion I can make is to honestly share your issues with a specialis...
