Fever blisters are also what are known as cold sores, they are caused by a herpes simplex virus, as explained by the NIH. There are over the counter remedies that you can try, if your doctor approves, or if you get them regularly, your doctor can prescribe a medication to help prevent them that's called Acyclovir. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

The toxicity of it is why it is no longer available in the U.S. However to further answer your question, I think it really depends on whether or not the Pruritus (Itching) is due to an infection and not just an allergic reaction to something else. If you can determine that it is in fact an infection, then yes, this medication may be used for such treatment. We used to be able to get this for use with infections and cuts.Very effective. is it availa ble for purchase? ## From what I'm able to gather, Sulfathiazole Penicillin ointment is primarily sold in Mexico and seldom found in the U.S. Another user on this site mentioned that: "I found it possible to purchase it in any state of mexico at any pharmacy in the city. You will almost always find it at a pharmacy in tijuana. It is very common." Because it is not readily available in the U.S. I recommend searching online under various mexican-based drug stores, as that is probably your best bet, aside from actually going to Mexico to pick some up. A friend from Panama gave me some Unguento de Sulfatioazol with 07/2012 expiration date. She suggested it would work to heal skin cancer on my nose. How do you use sulfatiazol powder? How do you measure it? ## Dianne, If it's not clearly stated on the packaging, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer directly just to be on the safe side. From what I've gathered on my own research, it appears to be a product of Mexico. However, I've yet to come across any specific dosing instructions for proper application. I know with some powders they make you use your own best judgement like you would with baby powder (i.e. just enough to cover a specific region where it's needed). But ultimately, with no instructions it's really anyone's call. I just don't understand how they could expect people to use their products without any disclosure. Did you order it online?

That is a natural process, because skin cells are killed and damaged, while the tattoo is done, so nothing is going to stop a layer or two of skin from peeling off. No, topical ointments will not make the ink run, it is actually down in the tissue and not on the surface where that could happen.
