using to prevent an infection, should ss, be used after the infection is gone.? ## I don't see what the point would be of using an antibiotic, after the infection has already been cleared up. I want a real-world shelf life and storage instructions. ## From what I could gather, the estimated shelf life of the oral suspension and tablets are both 5 years. The manufacturer's storage instructions also suggest keeping it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight (below 86 degrees fahrenheit), to help prevent further degradation. I have not taken sulfamethoxazole since Wednesday. Can I safely go out and have beers Saturday night? ## According to The University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), taking Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim with alcohol may cause serious side effects, including but not limited to a racing or pounding heart beat, sweating, severe flushing and rapid breathing. Since everyone is different there's virtually no way of knowing if you'll still be safe (even with a few days gap), but I would speculate that if you exercise caution and drink responsibly that you'd probably have nothing to worry about. Have you discussed this with your prescribing doctor?
