It is most often used as part of a synergistic combination with trimethoprim in a 5:1 ratio in co-trimoxazole (abbreviated SMZ-TMP and SMX-TMP,[4] or TMP-SMZ and TMP-SMX), also known under trade names such as Bactrim, Septrin, or Septra; in Eastern Europe it is marketed as Biseptol. Sulfamethox Tmp Sus
My two month old was proscribed this medicine. I feel she is sleeping way to much even for a two month old. Has anyone else had this problem? ## According to the dosing & administration guidelines, this medication is contraindicated in infants less than 2 months of age. Since your child is borderline on this age requirement, I'd question why the doctor decided to choose this drug over less riskier options? In my honest opinion, Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is a very powerful drug to be giving a 2 month old, who's immune system is still developing. The number of potentially severe side effects is what really draws a lot of people away from this particular antibiotic. So if you believe your child is sleeping abnormally more than usual, it may be worth while to contact your ... ...

What is this drug used for and is that normal? ## Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is a sulfonamide antibacterial combination of Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole, in the ratio of 1 to 5, used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. You can view a detailed description of the drug, by clicking on the link below... As far the label being worn and a new exp date put on, it sounds like a refill. If he has never gotten a refill then I would certainly question why the pharmacy did that; it seems unethical from my perspective. If you have any more questions or comments to add, please p... ...

Sulfamethoxazole TMP
My 87 father was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole after being diagnosed with urinary/prostate infection. He has taken it for only one day but he experienced weakness, muscle aches in legs and today he woke with fever. Of course, doctor took him off meds and did not think the fever was related to prostrate issue or "sulfa" meds. Any thoughts? ## Hi Ruth, Based on my research, the following symptoms are listed as severe side effects of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim: "fever, chills, swollen glands, body aches, flu symptoms, muscle weakness" - aka - pretty much everything you mentioned. For the doctor to not acknowledge this as a possibility is simply bad practice on his part. A brief 2 minute Google search on this drug's side effects clearly shows otherwise. (My advice - c... ...

Sulfamethox Trim 800 160
Sulfameth/Trimeth 800/1APX and novo-Trimel DS 800/160mg and Septra DS 800/160mg - are these the same mediations except the one without the DS is single strength? ## All three of those medications appear to have the same dosage of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim. The DS does stand for double-strength, however I'm not sure what the "1APX" stands for, as not even google can figure that one out Lol. Did you mean to put 160mgs? Whether or not it says DS at the end, it still seems to contain the same amount of Sulfamethoxazole as the others, and in therefore should also have the same amount of Trimethoprim. There are different dosages of this drug out there, but all of these ones are "DS" dosages. I hope this logic helps! ## thank you , no it was 1APX on the bottle ... ...
