Was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 for infection in thumb. Was to take it for 10 days but on 8 day developed an itchy rash - should I continue to take it. I am not allergic to any medications. Can I take benadryl to help? ## No, once you get the itchy rash from this it means that most likely you are allergic to it and things will only get worse if you continue taking it and there is the risk of your developing much more dangerous reactions. Learn more Bactrim details here. Benadryl may help in the meantime, until it starts to clear up, if it's safe for you to take it. But you also need to contact your doctor and let them know, they may wish to prescribe an alternative antibiotic. Learn more Benadryl details here. I had this happen to me early in 2012, I developed the rash...

Is used to clear up rashes cause all im reading is side effects are rashes. how do u give someone something that is suppost to clear rashes that causes rashes.. i guess i dont get it. ## Sulfamthoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic, it is used to treat various types of infections. This means that the only way it will help clear up a rash, is if that rash is caused by an infection. And yes, it can cause a non-allergic skin rash as a side effect, however, these are usually very mild and they will go away, a few days after you finish your prescribed course of the medication. Additionally, not everyone experienced the side effects of any given medication, so you may not get a rash from it, at all. Are there any other questions?

Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-alllergic skin rash and diarrhea. Please be careful to take them as prescribed, do not miss any pills and to complete the full course of antibiotics to help avoid developing antibiotic resistance. I was about to have surgery when they found out I carry MRSA so was prescribed this along with a strong antibiotic that goes in my nose where the MRSA is found.

can you take sulfameth/th/trimethoprim 800 160 with meloxicam 7.5.. I am taking it for a sinus infection and cough, but my costachondritis has flared up and wanted to take meloxicam ## My findings state that there are in fact interactions between these two drugs. The clinical significance is unknown. The potential for an interaction should be considered during concomitant use." Based on the info above, I would recommend talking to your doctor before going through with taking the meloxicam, just to play it safe. I hope this info helps. Get well soon! ## I didn't find any problems or interactions li...

I have a horribke skin rash abd i am itching all over from this medixatiob i have only taken 3 i have discontinued the med. The were prescribed for a UTI two days ago. 6/28/16. Should i go to the ER..what will stop the itching..please help! ## Hello, Bertha! How are you? When I had an allergic reaction to this medication, my doctor put me on Benadryl and a steroid skin cream, which requires a prescription. If you're not having trouble breathing, the ER is likely not necessary, but you should consult your regular doctor to see what is appropriate for you to use. As reported by the FDA a skin rash can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, but when the itching is added, the is likely due to an allergic reaction, so it was smart to stop taking it, because such reactions only tend...

I want to know do what medication does because I never took it before. I start today. ## Hi Tena, The combination of sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim is an antibiotic, prescribed to treat a variety of infections (including bacterial, fungal, and protozoal). One thing I also want to mention so you can be aware of it, is that many people here have reported serious side effects/allergic reactions such as skin rashes, joint pain, nausea, migraines, etc, while taking it. So god forbid, if you do experience similar symptoms (which don't happen to everyone) I'd just encourage you to contact your doctor immediately for further advice on what to do from there. First the left outside ankle then the rt. outside ankle began. ## No, that is not normal and could be the sign of a potentially dangerous reaction to this medication. Learn more Bactrim details here. You should contact your doctor immediately to get an alternative antibiotic. This is a sulfa based drug and it can cause odd reactions in some people that take it. There are reasons that these medications usually list cautions about sun exposure, but your doctor may be able to suggest ways to alleviate the problem, such as some Benadryl, or something similar. ## I was exposed to the sun while taking the above medicine I have small red bumps mostly on my legs and arms. My 21 year old daughter has been on this medication for 6 days. She developed a rash and in one day seems to cover her arms legs chest and face. She has quit taking medication and we are treated the rash. Any advice for relief. ## Hello, Anna! How are you and your daughter? Does the rash include hives and itching, or is it just a visible skin rash? A non-allergic rash can be a normal side effect of antibiotics and, if that's what it is, she should continue her course of treatment as it is nothing to worry about and will eventually go away on its own. However, if she has hives and itching, then she is possibly having an allergic reaction and should seek medical attention. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea.

I've been taking this drug 2x a day, since 6/1/2011. It was prescribed to treat an infection,of the prostate or lower organ, not sure. My fist night on taking drug, I felt uneasy and, only slept a few hours! Next, I felt chills and then started experiencing serious intermitent acheing pain, mostly in my left arm and deltoid muscle shoulder! Since starting on the med, I've had episodes of heavy sleep, chills, waking up in the morning bed clothes soaked, T-shirt and pillow from a fever or chills!I've got about another few days of pills before I use them up! Can you take a sleep aid like Zzzquil or Unisom with sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160? ## Hello, DeeDee! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. The antibiotic may cause some drowsiness, so taking it with a sleep aid could intensify that and really knock you out. Thus, you should make sure that you only take it, when you're going straight to bed and won't be driving or anything. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, for the antibiotic may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am currently on 20mg of Methadone and went to the dr yesterday and was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim. My dr. knows that I am on Methadone from my last appt with her a couple months ago. I just want to make sure that it is ok to take these together. ## Hi Nicole, From what I could gather, there is said to be a "minor" interaction between Methadone and Sulfa-Tmp. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients, since minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed. The information I found on this interaction is quoted below, although I personally don't find their wording to make the most of sense: "Limited data su...
