I was prescribed this medication for an urinary track infection the Qty:6 yes only six! is that normal? ## Some medications require a longer usage duration than others, so you even though it is an antibiotic, you will not always be prescribed 10 to 14 days of it. Many of them work much faster, now and have to be taken for a much shorter period of time. This can cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. Do you have any other questions? ## i think i have a blader infection can i use sulfameth/trimeth ds800/160mg? ## you did not yes or no if i can use this medicine

can this combination of antibiotics be used to treat mersa? ## Hello, Chichio! How are you? Yes, this is a generic for Bactrim and it is actually one of the preferred antibiotics to treat MRSA. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-alllergic skin rash and diarrhea. Please be careful to take them as prescribed, do not miss any pills and to complete the full course of antibiotics to help avoid developing antibiotic resistance. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes! I was about to have surgery when they found out I carry MRSA so was prescribed this along with a strong antibiotic that goes in my nose where the MRSA is found.

can you take sulfameth/th/trimethoprim 800 160 with meloxicam 7.5.. I am taking it for a sinus infection and cough, but my costachondritis has flared up and wanted to take meloxicam ## My findings state that there are in fact interactions between these two drugs. Posted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Coadministration with inhibitors of CYP450 2C9 may theoretically increase the plasma concentration (potency) of meloxicam. The clinical significance is unknown. The potential for an interaction should be considered during concomitant use." Based on the info above, I would recommend talking to your doctor before going through with taking the meloxicam, just to play it safe. I hope this info helps. Get well soon! ## I didn't find any problems or interactions li...

I have a horribke skin rash abd i am itching all over from this medixatiob i have only taken 3 i have discontinued the med. The were prescribed for a UTI two days ago. 6/28/16. Should i go to the ER..what will stop the itching..please help! ## Hello, Bertha! How are you? When I had an allergic reaction to this medication, my doctor put me on Benadryl and a steroid skin cream, which requires a prescription. If you're not having trouble breathing, the ER is likely not necessary, but you should consult your regular doctor to see what is appropriate for you to use. As reported by the FDA a skin rash can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, but when the itching is added, the is likely due to an allergic reaction, so it was smart to stop taking it, because such reactions only tend...

I have a abscess under my front bottom right tooth in the gums. I have no med insurance or money due to being out of work for last 5 yrs. Can someone take this for the infection. And how much would someone take? ## Hi, Dee! I'm sorry about the problem you're having, I've been there myself, but this is an issue that you really need to see a dentist and have treated. Many places in the U.S. have low-income dental clinics now that have emergency walk-in hours, so you may be able to get treatment free or at a significant discount and you really need to look into it. The reason I am saying this is because treating the infection will not help with the underlying reason for the infection. An abscess is usually caused by a deep cavity that has been left untreated for too long and de...

I want to know do what medication does because I never took it before. I start today. ## Hi Tena, The combination of sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim is an antibiotic, prescribed to treat a variety of infections (including bacterial, fungal, and protozoal). One thing I also want to mention so you can be aware of it, is that many people here have reported serious side effects/allergic reactions such as skin rashes, joint pain, nausea, migraines, etc, while taking it. So god forbid, if you do experience similar symptoms (which don't happen to everyone) I'd just encourage you to contact your doctor immediately for further advice on what to do from there. I hope this helps answer your question! ## IS ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE URINATING AFTER BEING ON THIS MED? I'VE TAKEN IT FOR A GRO...

My 21 year old daughter has been on this medication for 6 days. She developed a rash and in one day seems to cover her arms legs chest and face. She has quit taking medication and we are treated the rash. Any advice for relief. ## Hello, Anna! How are you and your daughter? Does the rash include hives and itching, or is it just a visible skin rash? A non-allergic rash can be a normal side effect of antibiotics and, if that's what it is, she should continue her course of treatment as it is nothing to worry about and will eventually go away on its own. However, if she has hives and itching, then she is possibly having an allergic reaction and should seek medical attention. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea.

I've been taking this drug 2x a day, since 6/1/2011. It was prescribed to treat an infection,of the prostate or lower organ, not sure. Since starting on med, I initially realized a change in how I felt. Glands in my neck shoulders and,up through my head felt sore. I felt giddy or antsy! My fist night on taking drug, I felt uneasy and, only slept a few hours! Next, I felt chills and then started experiencing serious intermitent acheing pain, mostly in my left arm and deltoid muscle shoulder! Since starting on the med, I've had episodes of heavy sleep, chills, waking up in the morning bed clothes soaked, T-shirt and pillow from a fever or chills!I've got about another few days of pills before I use them up! Can you take a sleep aid like Zzzquil or Unisom with sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160? ## Hello, DeeDee! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. The antibiotic may cause some drowsiness, so taking it with a sleep aid could intensify that and really knock you out. Thus, you should make sure that you only take it, when you're going straight to bed and won't be driving or anything. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, for the antibiotic may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Began taking a pill last night of sulfamethoxazole/tmp for cellulitis. Wanted to take it this morning by 8 am. To stay on schedule. But just ate some grapefruit for breakfast. I didn't notice instructions not to eat grapefruit. At what time should I now take my medicine? How long should I wait? ## Grapefruit may slightly reduce the efficacy of your next dosage, but it doesn't cause aNY seriously dangerous interactionS, thus it is usually best to continue with your dosing schedule and just avoid grapefruit for the rest of the duration you that are taking it. You should always double check with your doctor, of course, but in most cases, there is no serious concern. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-alle...

I have been taking this antibiotic for four days now and the rashes seem to pronounce a bit more. So my question is, does the rash get more pronounced while one is taking it on your skin before it starts healing and disappearing? ## Hello, Richard! How are you? The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and it can actually cause a non-allergic skin rash as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea. Drug was prescribed yesterday for a UTI which began yesterdat. Symptoms seemed to be lessening yesterday evening after the 2nd tablet. Time between urinating had stretched to 2 hours. Now, this morning it's back to 15 minute intervals before an overwhelming urge to urinate takes place. When urinating, there is also a bad burning sensation. Questions: (1) How long at 2 tablets per day before I experience some relief? (2) Caution against taking with grapefruit juice, but not orange juice. Why? Is there a connection with vitamin C, since I have been taking ~8 grams per day( I now have discontinued C in case there was. I took this and have had a burning tongue since July. Could this be a side affect ## Hello, DeeDee! How are you? No, if you took a course of it back in July and still have the burning tongue, then it most likely hasn't been caused by the medication. Its typical side effects include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications? Have you been using any new toothpastes or mouthwashes? Have you had any dental work done?

Should I be taking Sulfameth Trimethoprim 800/160 while I am taking 4 mg of Warfarin daily? ## Were these prescribed by the same doctor, so they are aware that you are taking both? The Sulfamethoxazole in this antibiotic can cause increased plasma concentrations of the Warfarin, which can increase your risk of bleeding, so someone that is using both must be carefully monitored by their doctor, because their INR should be checked frequently.
