I have about 8 of the sulfameth/trimeth that were left over. I've had a horrible sinus problem for years and my Dr wont give me antibiotics, only gives me Fluticasone. Looked up my nostril once that's it. Fluticasone is useless. Very thick mucus, smells bad. Green, yellow, even kinda gray. Maybe I need a specialist I don't know but I will try anything to get rid of this. I have to blow my nose so hard I'm afraid I'm gonna have a stroke Lol. Seriously though, I can't handle this anymore. ## I think it might be time for you to see an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist to try and get to the root of the problem. While discolored mucous does not always mean an infection is present, contrary to popular belief as documented by the NIH, sometimes it means your body is fi...

Can you use this medicine for a sinus infection where you are bringing up green phlegm? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that can be used to treat many types of infections. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more: However, if this is medication that you had left over, because you didn't finish it all to treat some other infection that it was prescribed for, you should know that it is never a good idea to do that. It creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. A partial prescription of left over medications is probably not going to be enough to provide you with a full course of the antibiotic for this infection. Thus, you should really see a doctor. Are there an...

I am coumadin and have a terrible time with level fluctuations. I bleed very quickly. What is the interaction problem with sulfatrim? I am taking it for a sinus infection. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. When taken with Coumadin, which contains the active ingredient Warfarin, the plasma concentrations of the Coumadin can be increased, meaning that you are absorbing more of the medication than usual and your body isn't processing it out at the normal rate. This can result in increased bleeding dangers. Does your doctor know you are on both of these?

Because Cefdinir is also a antibiotc, wii it work just as well as Sulfameth tmp ds tabs. ## It really depends on what type of infection is being treated. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections. For instance, while it is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class, Cefdinir has been proven most effective at treat infections of ear, sinus, throat and skin. Thus, your doctor may not want to prescribe it for a urinary tract infection. The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, however, has been shown to be very effective at treating urinary tract infections, so when you have one, your doctor may prefer to use it as their first choice. And there are some infections that they are both proven...

I was prescribed sulfamethoxazole tmp ds for a sinus infection and was to take it for 14 days. On my 9th day I woke up at 6 am having terrible muscle soreness and pain for no explainable reason. I couldn't lift my right arm without my bicep and forearm being in awful pain. As the day went on I still experienced pain but it seemed to diminish some. The next morning I woke at the same time and in worse pain. It was excruciating just to move. I tried reaching my doctor but decided to just stop taking the antibiotics. I only had 3 more days. Does this thin blood like aspirin, Ibuprofen? Is it safe to take this prior to surgery to knock a sinus infection? ## Sulfamethoxazole Tmp Ds itself is not a blood thinner, although it does have a warning label stating it's interaction with other blood thinners. As far as pre-operative doses go, this is probably something that should be discussed with the surgeon, since every surgeon has their own unique pre and post operative instructions. Odds are it is probably fine, as it is an antibiotic and doesn't thin blood; but just to be sure I would double check with his personal instructions.
