My Dad is taking Tramadol in place of Darvocet. He took Darvocet for 20 years no side effects, now he is taking Tramadol and is good for pain but his blood pressure is going high and he has arrythmia and terrible depression. I think this pill has problem working with Paxil, Atenolol, Norvasc and Digoxin and should not be given together or adjusted. Why are doctors not aware of this and what else could he or should he be taking? Confused and upset! I f Darvocet cause heart attacks then why could he take it for 20 years without problems and now with Tramadol the safe one he's having all these troubles. ## Well, first of all, no medication is absolutely safe, they all carry risks. Now, the next question is, how long has he been off the Darvocet and did he stop taking it abruptly? Darvo...

My wife ran out of this pill. She was taking two at bed time. Now she is having bad dreams and says her body hurts all over. She had neither problem while taking them. The doctor told us they do not make this pill anymore. Is there substitute for it? Thank You ## Perphen/Amit contains the active ingredients Perphenazine and Amitriptyline, it is used to treat various mental health disorders. Such withdrawal effects can be normal, if someone stops taking this medication suddenly, but they should wear off in a few weeks, as her body readjusts to not having the medication. As to a substitute, I am not sure, since I don't know where you are located. Has her doctor or pharmacist suggested an alternative? ## I still get this prescription from cvs..mail in and at the drug store..the prescri...

Is their a cheeper substitute replacin HYCODAN for a small dog? ## There are other alternatives for replacing Hycodan. I am not certain about the pricing, as it will vary with most retailers. But here are a few substitutes you may be interested in taking a look at; I am not a vet, nor an MD, but the following drugs are what I researched to be some of what other people are giving to their dogs under similar circumstances: Butorphanol (Torbutrol)..for coughing Theophylline..to help with breathing Chlorpheniramine..for allergies in small dogs and cats. Please post back if you have any concerns or trouble locating a specific drug, and I will be happy to assist you.

I can't find my prescription anywhere due to the new law , I was sounder ehat I could take instead of my hydrocodone/acetaminophen.. ## Hi Anthony, Sorry to hear about your situation. However, there are a number of different options on the market if you were to look for an alternative pain medication to Lortab (hydrocodone + acetaminophen); even if you were to just opt for another brand name or generic of the same medication. But just to name a few that you could ask your doctor about, there are: Percocet (oxycodone + acetaminophen) Percodan/Endodan (oxycodone + aspirin) Norco (hydrocodone + acetaminophen) Vicoprofen/Reprexain/Ibudone (hydrocodone + ibuprofen) Please also note that changing medications may not necessarily make it any easier to fill, especially if they are of the sam...

I take 4 hydrocodone 10/375 a day for neck pain. It is getting filled as norco now. Is there anything else that might not cause so much stomach or intestinal pain and discomfort? I have never had any luck in the past with Darvocet or Percocet. I was wanting to have something I might be able ask my doctor about. ## You just tell them you tried all types of non opioid drugs along with what you on now and you can't get your pain under control cause too much Tylenol is tearing your stomach up you tried the type with no Tylenol and it took or helped your pain and it did not tear up your stomach and be like being in pain is bad but pain and messing my stomach up also so why can't i get the ones without Tylenol before i end up on a ton of meds all cause of to much Tylenol that's wh...

I was previously taking Butalbital Compund 50-325-40 twice a day for about 4 years for tension headaches. My doctor now has started me on Nortriptyline and no more Butalbital. Anyone else with tension headaches who had to make this switch and did Nortriptyline really help? Vince P ## Hello, Vince! How are you? Yes, everyone is having to make a switch. As to whether or not Nortriptyline will work, the only way to find out is to try it and see. These medications do help some people that suffer migraines and tension headaches, so you may experience good results with it. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Does anyone know why they have discontinued the Butalbital compound ( Fiorinal) tablets? I have taken this...

Hello! I was prescribed Hydrocodone/APAP 5-325 MG. (It also says on bottle: generic form NORCO 5-325). The only medication that's worked for my condition. Is there any OTC substitute or anything they'll more likely prescribe me? Everyone thinks I have an addiction. I only had a quantity of 12. I'm not having withdrawals. I could go a few days without my medication too. It just really helps. I haven't been able to work due to my condition and I need an income. But they won't give me a refill. My condition: I was given this because the past year I've been dealing with mysterious, unknown painful urination. I've seen specialists, had a ct scan done, been on multiple pills for UTI, urine culture. Nothing they can figure out. It comes up as an infection though. It...

I have been taking Ranbaxy Lorazapam for more than 10 years. Now that is no longer available I have tried Watson & Qualitest manufacturers. I am having severe muscle tightening, headaches and loud ringing in my ears. Can someone please suggest something similar to the Ranbaxy? Even if it is another similar generic drug? Clearly there is something different in the other manufacturers generic lorazapam that is causing so many problems. ## Hello, Patti! How are you doing? What dose do you take? It might be that you actually need a dosage adjustment, if you've been taking your current dosage for a long period of time. Our bodies do eventually get used to something and it's normal to require dose adjustments, now and then. This medication carries the risk of being habit forming a...

My serum creatinine level has been 2.0mg for four years and I've been suffering from diabetes for 12 years and high blood pressure for 8 years. To control my creatinine I have been taking a tablet called Al-donil OD 150mg (one tablet per day). My sugar level is normal as well after taking the tablet and my blood pressure is normal (130/90) after taking the tablet. Please advise whether I can use Nefrosave in place of the Al-donil OD 150mg? Thank you.

I spoke with a pharmacist at Walgreen's. He suggested a Walgreen's brand. It is called Wal*Finate-D. It is a antihistamine/nasal decongestant. I took one an hour ago and it has dried up my nose and the sneezing has stopped. It is not available on the store shelf, you have to get it at the pharmacy. I have been suffering for two years since Drixoral was taken off the shelf. Benedryl did not work nor Alka-Seltzer cold plus. But Wal*Finate-D is amazing and was only around $6.00 for 48 tablets. It does make you a little drowsy but it got the job done for me. ## Thank you for posting this, there have been many people looking for a viable substitute, since the loss of sales caused them to stop manufacturing Drixoral. Is there any chance you can post back with more information on the i...

Does anyone know if the venofer infusion is made with a sugar substitute? I am epileptic and have a sugar substitute seizure trigger among other things. I recently started venofer and have my 4th infusion tomorrow for my anemia. I have had increased seizure activity and headaches, as well as an upset stomach the day after, to where I cannot leave the house. Any info will be helpful. Thank you. ## I didn't find any listed as being in it, according to the manufacturer's website. My husband is allergic to them, so I am always on the look out for them under their various names and forms. Headaches can be a normal side effect, according to FDA reports, the seizure activity is listed as being due to the possibility of being hypersensitive to it. Have you informed your doctor of the is...

Redbook 2009 page 375 "Pharmacys Fundamental Reference" 100 tabs of five mg Ovation Pharmaceutical "Desoxyn" is $381.65 wholesale, and is $457.98 retail, "cash in fist" or $4.58 per tablet. I used to take the former Abbott Labs of North Chicago, Illinois, the former 10mg and 15 mg. "Desoxyn Gradumet tablets, which were available at least from 1965 until 1999, these were extended (sustained release tablets) not the instant release 5 mg ones that Ovation is licensed to manufacture for Abbott. The 10 mg were orange, the15 mg were yellow. Even the white ones, 5 mg, were embossed with the classic little reverse "a" in a small letter. Much superior, in my humble opinion, were Abbott's former stimulant called "Desbutal" which also were methamphet...

I get pains down my leg usually when the weather changes from warm to cold and when it rains. I have always taken Norgesic Forte as soon as the pain starts and it always takes care of my pain. I can no longer get Norgesic Forte and the substitute my Pharmist told me to ask my Doctor for does not work. What other medications should I ask my Doctor for. Is Mobic a substitute or equivalent drug to Norco? ## Hello, Tracey! How are you? No, it is definitely not. Mobic contains the active ingredient Meloxicam, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. However, Norco is classified as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed Flomax to help pass my first ever kidney stone. Is it normal to have to take this for 30 days? This seems like a long time to me. ## Hi Kimberly, Based on my research, Flomax is not intended to be used as short term treatment. As long as you aren't experiencing any negative side effects, just take it as prescribed as your doctor. I've read that Lemon Juice can be quite effective for those trying to pass the kidney stones. I'm sure you could also substitute other citrus fruits for lemons as well. I've read that juicing grapefruits is really good for the body- and since it's a citrus fruit I imagine it could help a great deal! I hope this helps! ## You can not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking flomax. This caution is on the prescrip...

Mine are labeled "sub hydrocodone acetate 5/325. They make me very sleepy and never used too. Makes it difficult to go to work on this medication, let alone drive. Thoughts? ## Hello, Kris! How are you? Yes, that means that your prescription was written for Norco and they substituted the generic Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen 5/325mgs. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What are the markings on them? That is what would enable me to check the inactive ingredients for you. Can you please post back with this additional information? Thanks!

For several years, I have been taking morphine ir 30mg and Hydrocodone 10/325 , both four times per day, as prescribed. . . what would withdrawl syptoms be ? Would it be dangerous if physician abruptly discontinues both at once, without "tapering off" or providing a substitute ? ## Hello, dbanana! How are you? Yes, a sudden withdrawal could be dangerous, such withdrawals have occasionally been known to cause seizures or severe dehydration. Other symptoms of withdrawal, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain and depression. Is there anything else I can help with?
