trying to detox from subone have been on 8mgs a day for 15 months need help please thank you. ## Hi confused, I hope I don,t confuse you more but heres what I did when I got down to 8mgs. By the way, it was my sub. drs. taper plan. For 2 weeks I alternated, day 1 8mgs. day2, 4mgs. day3, 8mgs.day4, back to 4mgs. This averages out to 6mgs. I kept this routine up for 2weeks then tapered to 4mgs. From the 4mgs I tapered 1mg. per week. After the last week on 1mg. I stopped completely. I was taking the strips and when I got down to 4mgs. sub dr. prescribed the 2mg strips just because it was easier to cut. Tapering this way was a walk in the park. No wds. bettween tapers. Last week on 1mg I woke up couple times thruout night but went right back to sleep. No problems after that. Been off subs s...

Hello everyone, I have been on Suboxone 8/2, twice a day for over 5 years. I want to get off it but I have major health compications. I've had major depression my whole life. My last psychiatrist put me on several other drugs for my depression. One of them is an amphetamine called Vyvanse. (70 mg.) I'm also on 4 mg of clonazepam, 200 mg. of pristiq and Dexilant for acid reflux. I have a history of a negative lipid profile. In addition, I have high blood pressure. I'm also 60 years old. I know that I should never stop anythin suddenly. I have been unable to find asome out of the physician to supervise the withdrawal from anything. I am really afraid that Suboxone withdrawal will trigger a heart attack or stroke because everytime I try to taper down, My heart starts pounding i...

My message is for the person who was saying something about other companies not making suboxone because the first company has the rights to making it exclusively. While it is true for a period of I believe somewhere between 3 -7 years after it hits the market, suboxone has been around long enough that other companies can now make the same medicine and be in direct competition with the makers of the original suboxone. And there are several different generic suboxone makers now. It's big business and big money to these corporations that those of us dependent on the drug remain hooked just as we were our drug of choice. I have started to taper down off suboxone now, and hope to be off it by oct, 2013. I'm not knocking it for use as a substitute for other hard opioids, it's just...

Started sub 3 months ago today at 12mg. Started tapering 2 months ago. 4 weeks ago I was at 4mg. and have dropped 1 mg per week. Took my last 1mg this morning. Noticed people been asking about coming off this stuff. I,ll keep you all informed about how my jump feels. Not expecting anything for a few days because of the half life. Just to let you know I didn,t feel much bettween tapers until I got down to 1mg. and I gotta tell you that it was just about nothing. Not thinking jump will be too bad, maybe mild discomfort I hope. I know it,ll be nothing like past oxy wds. ## Day 4: Hasn,t been too bad yet. Except for the sleep thing whitch I HAVE been getting some kind of feels like about a med. alcohol hangover. Those subs are some weird s#it. I ain,t knocking them because they helped me ge...

I started taking suboxone almost 11 weeks ago. I was only taking 4mgs and today i went down to 2mgs. How long will it take me to taper to nothing and not have withdrawals? Please help. I am so sorry I ever touched these things. ## Hello, Karen! How are you? Regardless of how low you taper, you will likely still experience some minor withdrawal symptoms, once you finally stop altogether. Has your doctor provided any instructions? It does contain a very potent narcotic, to you do need to taper off of it as slowly as possible. Is this the only medication you're on? ## ive been taking about 2mg maybe less for about 2 years. havent taken it in three days trying to quit cold turkey. the only withdrawel symptoms ive had was no energy very little insomnia and a little anxiety eapecially whe...

I want to taper off after ten years on suboxone. I've never taken more than 4 mg/day and I'm currently at .5 mg/day and struggling. Had no problem getting from 4 mg down to 1, but it's gotten harder recently as I've gone down from 1 to .5. Everything I'm reading makes me want to give up before going any further. Years ago I was able to taper off oxy little by little until I barely noticed the final step to zero. I've heard that's not possible with sub and that I'm going to feel terrible for a long time no matter how slow I go. I have enough of the 2 mg films to last almost a year at .5 mg/day. Has anyone ever done an extremely slow taper and managed to not go through hell when they finally stop? ## Based on your description I get the sense that it may sim...

ive taken 132mgs of suboxone over the last 2 weeks how can i guit ## Hello, Nolabob! How are you doing? A slow taper would be best and safest, your doctor should be able to help you set up a proper tapering schedule that will prevent most of the withdrawal effects. Have you discussed it with them, yet? This is an opiate, so withdrawal effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, fever and chills. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. ## Hey Vermon, My Dr has me on 12mg of suboxone 1 time daily I told him I wanted to get off of them asap I was sick and tired of being sick an tired Im 62 yrs old an had an addiction problem all my life or rather since I was 8or 9 yrs old . I've only taken 1 mg of Soboxone a day since I was prescribed it three years ago. Now I want to quit. I started tapering and am at .25 twice a day. I plan on going down to .125 mg in a couple days.Has anyone had a similar experience and should I expect for withdrawals to be easy since I've never taken more then 1 mg? ## I tried (UNSUCCESSFULLY) for almost a year to get off suboxone!! I managed to get down to mere grains (probably 1/16th of a tablet) a day for three months.. Three days after I quit completely I felt horrible. Not physically but it's like my mind was so down I could even get off my sofa to feed my fish that were six steps away! I hate this dependence and wish I had never used it as long as I have (4yrs). Unless I am able to have no obligations like a career I ...

I broke my neck and my back when I was 29. Never used drugs, I didn't drink or anything, then they sent me to a pain clinic and they never told me it was addictive. I got addicted to it real bad. I have 2 kids. I never neglected them except for showing them my time. I got to the point that I can deal with addiction and more so I wanted a different life. I was on Suboxone for 3 years now and it made my life ten times better. I was able to be the parent that I needed to be. Now I'm just scared that I'm not going to be able to bring myself off of these. ## Hello, Samantha! How are you? Actually, the great thing about Suboxone is that most people are able to successfully come off it and be completely drug free. It does require a slow taper, but that's why it is preferred ove...

I was on 80mg of oxycontin 3 times a day and it was no longer helping after taking it for many, many, many years. I switched to Suboxone for my Chronic Pain Mgt. Was on 6mg films for the 1st year and always had extra, as I took them at night. I was shocked how well they worked along with Flexeril for my back, leg and feet pain. Then I was cut to 3mg film once a day. I usually take the 6mg film every other day, and still forget at times, so I may only use 11 instead of 14 in 28 days. I recently tried to cut to the equivalent of 1/3 a day, but the insomnia and anxiety were off the charts after only a few days. At my last appointment it was Student Teaching Day. My Doctor explained how I am there for pain management which is why I haven't been completely we end off the medication. He a...

I'm going through it, 29yrs old. Tried it one time since 2011. I'm tired and want to do it. Thanks ## It depends how much Suboxone you've been taking each day and how long you've been taking it. Can you please post back with more details? Has your doctor given you a tapering schedule? The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addition, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I just wanted to take a moment to say. I've been reading all this string of info and I keep going back to the same thought. I was prescribed Hydrocodone for Severe TMJ & TMD etc. In other words my jaw is really messed up. I won't bore you wit...

I've been on 16-24 mg of Suboxone for about 4 years and I've tried time after time to get off of it, but I cannot afford to take off work or lose my job because of withdrawals. I have to be able to take care of my family. I've tried tapering on my own and with the help of my Suboxone doctor who recommended that I stay on it. I have tried withdrawal ease, and cold turkey. After much research I found that many people who are stuck on Suboxone get off by stopping for a week, then going back to short acting opiates such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, or Morphine, then tapering off after a month or two. I would like to find a doctor to help me with this rather than risking it on my own, plus it would be extremely hard to do if I didn't have a prescription, especially since I don...

I have been on Subs for about 2 years now and really want off of them! However now i am reading that Sub Withdraws are worse than the Oxycodone i had been taking. which only makes sense because of the half life and what not of Suboxone. I do not really want to taper down because i am just Horrible at such a thing which is why i started taking Suboxone in the first place! My Dr should really have told me to only take it for the first 2-4 weeks. I am looking for something i can take for 2-3 maybe 4 weeks to help cut me off of Suboxone COLD TURKEY! besides Opioids obviously! Anyone out there have something in mind or have experience? ## Hi Chef, Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been on 12mg/day sub for 6 plus years and hate this demon drug. My life is a mess and I desperately want to get off this slow ugly spiral. Anyway here is my situation: my doctor retires in December and i don't want to find another one, so is it possible to taper off 12mg to 0 successfully between now and then? I haven't asked to taper before now out of fear. Before I went back to 12mg 6yrs ago I tried a slow taper and it failed. I think I'm ready now, I hate this drug with a passion. Is it possible?? ## Yes, it is possible, whether or not it will work for you, however, is a different matter entirely. Some people are able to stop such a medication cold turkey, or via a very rapid taper, with no major problems, it really depends on the person. Have you spoken to your ...

I've been taking 90mg Avinza twice daily for about 11 years, with the addition of percoset 5mg 2-4x a day over the last two years. I still couldn't sleepplus had major anxiety issues, and after trying Ambien (awful!), Klonopin, Xanax & other meds that made me brain dead the next day, I finally began using cannabis with great success. It even relieved my pain by making me stop focusing on it. Then I scored a 21 on a drug panel at pain mgmnt and now they are tapering me off morphine & cold turkey on percocet. I've taken it for a decade and I'm terrified because I know my body is addicted. I don't drink, I barely smoked cannabis but will continue to and I've never abused my meds, but I know it will be a hard transition. Do I need to find a doctor to write fo...

Can someone please tell me if I can stop taking suboxone all at once. I have only been on it for one month or so and it is an 8 mg. doseage twice a day. Will it be safe or will I have withdrawals. ## I have been on Suboxone 8 mg. twice a day for two months. Can I stop taking it cold turkey or will I have withdrawals? Someone please tell me. Thanks ## Yes, stopping it abruptly will most likely cause withdrawals. If you want to stop taking it, the best thing to do would be to speak to your doctor about the proper way to taper off of it. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and its withdrawal effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

How can I stay on suboxone when the doctor wants to take me off? ## Don,t know if it would work but you could tell him you still have urges to use and you don,t think your ready yet. Why do you want to stay on it? ## Hi Bill Brasksi! As Jolter said,"u can tell the Dr that u r still having cravings 2 use." I've been on suboxone 4 almost 8 years, and, I don't plan on getting off it anytime soon. My reason is I feel that I will b back on pain pills, again. (Due. 2 the pain I suffer) I'm just not ready, yet, and, I don't trust myself. ## @Bill, Does your doctor want you off Suboxone indefinitely or is he just trying to get you to taper down from what you've already been taking? In either case, I think it would be a good idea to ask your doctor his reasoning for w...

Well yesterday was my last day of subs for me. I tapered myself all the way down to .5mg a day. I'm ok today but my back is starting to mess with me, but I'm fine. The highest dose I've ever taken was 8mg but didn't like the way it made me feel. I've been on subs for almost 5yrs now and it's just time to stop. I'M SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED!! It all started with a real bad car accident in which I rolled my car 4 times on I95 in Virginia almost 11yrs ago. Was put on pain pills and the next thing you know I was using oxy's and H main streaming it. Got clean then went right back to it. Went to methadone clinic, and then switch to subs and here I am almost 5yrs later. The hardest part for me right now is that I have a full time job that I like, an...
