As a brief background - I have very advanced Degenerative Disc Disease, along with bad arthritis/spurs/nerve damage - all in my neck. 5 of the 7 discs are in terrible shape - I've been told by several doctors that it is very advanced for my age (34). I've been through a great deal of pain management including massage therapy, physical therapy, chiropractors, injections and procedures on my neck. Not a whole lot has helped and I'm trying to avoid surgery. For approximately 12 months the pain was managed by my pain management doctor on short acting oxycodone (30mg 3 times per day). Wasn't the best schedule, especially long term, to manage the pain. So I made the decision to get off that dose schedule by switching to suboxone. Exactly 1 month ago I switched to suboxone, tak...

I was in suboxone for almost 2 yrs when i hurt myself bad enough for hip surgery. I told my dr and surgeon that i was taking subs. But neither one told me to stop or anything. So when i had surgery an was in recovery screaming in oain the nurse told me they had given me enoughn to knock an elphant out but it did not relieve pain.it was supose.to be day surgery but I could not get off table due to pain !! I ended up staying the night in hospital i talk with nurse and she was able to give me something that gave a little relieve. I wanted to tell everyone that considers taken suboxone that it dies very little for pain but does good to help you live without pain meds and live a regular live a decent life but it is just swapping one drug for another and if you do ever get hurt in wreck or so...

Does anyone know if Suboxone works for nerve pain and how much does it cost a month ## Hello, Karen! How are you? Some people get good results taking it for pain, but not all, it varies from person to person. As to the cost, unfortunately, that can vary greatly from area to area and pharmacy to pharmacy, as well, so I can't quote you a price. The FDA classifies it as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It varies but currently in the Southern CA area it's going for anywhere from $220-260. I get mine for $240. With a Manufacture Discount Coupon you can get at suboxone.com it brings it down to $186. This is for 30 Films a month.

I was just wondering if some doctors prescribe Suboxone for pain? ## Most don't and from what I understand, insurance companies won't cover it for anything other than drug dependency issues. I have heard of a few people who have taken it for pain but its typically only prescribed for pain as a last resort because of other medical issues making the person unable to take anything else. Why are you trying to get on suboxone? Long term use of it for something like pain management is in my opinion a nastier habit to kick than regular opiates. The Dr Appts are very expensive and the withdrawal lasts months. If your concerned about taking opiates for pain I'd urge you to look into other alternatives. And if you're looking to get off of opiates for pain management just remember,...

I have only been on suboxone for 4 days (8mg 1 time a day). It's my first time taking sub's. It's been 12 hours. I went to the hospital and they said I have kidney stones. I'm in a lot of pain. They gave me 10 mg norcos. I'm not looking to feel high just want pain relief. Please advise. ## Hello, Hope! How are you? Oh, I understand, I had a kidney stone a few years ago, and it was horrible. It usually takes about 3 days (72 hours), before other opiates will be effective for you, again, after taking Suboxone for a few days. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Did they give you anything at the hospital? IE: I mean while you were there to ...

I'm a chronic pain pt. I was on 16 mg of sub for pain for 2 straight years. It completely stopped working, when in the beginning it worked "good enough" now, my dr is a pain specialist and suboxone dr. He put me on a fentynal patch 25 mcg told me to take my last dose of sub and put patch on at same time because sub should b mostly out of my system within 12 hrs. I had no problem switching but a little wd from the sub. It is only day 4....dr said 40% of your opiod receptors r still open on sub!!! It only fills 60% of them. Still, enough to block most opiates, except very high doses. Now, I am just starting to feel the fentynal on day 4. But am still in moderate/sometimes severe pain. Anyone with a similar experience???? ## Hi Painpatient38, I haven't personally had an exp...

If u feel u need 2 remain on suboxone 4 a longer period of time, u will need 2 find another Doctor who will continue 2 prescribe it 4 u. I've been on it 4 almost 8 years now, and, I don't plan on getting off it anytime soon. I suffer with a lot of back and medical problems, also. I do understand how u feel. I,ve started to taper off sub. and plan to be off it in a couple of months. I pay for sub. dr. visits because he doesn,t take my insurance. I do use my insurance at drug store for the filmstrips. I read someplace that if your useing your insurance to pay for the prescription that this will pop up red flags in the future when you need pain medication for a legimate reason. I am on subs. because of oxy abuse. I,ll be needing to have my knee replaced sometime in the future, I,m trying to put it off for a couple of years and I don,t want to be prescribed suboxone when I have surgery done. Every time I go to a DR. are they gonna look at there computer and see I,ve been on subs. for abuse? I go to a private sub.DR. not my regular one. ## Red flags pop up, when you are doing such things as get...

i dont take suboxone on a regular basis. i took a quater of subxone today when can i tak e my pain medication ## Generally, unless your doctor instructs otherwise, you have to wait about 72 hours. Otherwise the Suboxone will block the effect of other opiates. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I have been on suboxone for 2 years now for opioid dependency . Yesterday I saw an oral surgeon who pulled my bottom teeth for dentures. The surgeon peracribed talwin for the pain. Will this have any side affects taken with my suboxone, and or will it even work. I'm afraid I'll be sent into withdrawals or still be in pain. Please respond as soon as possible im in a lot of pain and Motrin is not working. ## Hello, Meagan! How are you feeling? No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone will most likely block the Talwin from working. Ideally, he should have had you stop the Suboxone for a few days, before doing the extractions. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsin...

Im in an addiction treatment program and I'm taking two 8/2 mg strips a day. I've been a slave to opiates for approximately 25 years. I've reached the point of being fed up with being dependent on pain pills to function. my addiction dr suggested trying to find a pain management dr who would treat my chronic pain with suboxone. It does alleviate my pain ...or might I say ..makes me functional and the pain tolerable. is this an actual option? I've done research on this and have gotten mixed reviews on the subject. I trust this site and follow it daily so I'm asking for some information and suggestions. I function better on suboxone than on oxycodone dilaudid or morphine (I've been prescribed them all plus some others) give me some feedback. What should I do or is ...

if you are given an increase in suboxone how long before it helps with pain ## Hello, David! How are you? It is a narcotic, so it should start to have some effect within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, some people have reported it that it really didn't help their pain, so if it does nothing to alleviate yours, you may need to try a different medication. Has it helped, at all? ## My doctor just started me on suboxone strips for my pain managment & I accidentally threw my box away with the directions on it. I took 8mg at 4p, can someone tell me when the soonest I can take another 8mg strip?

I broke my leg 2 years ago and now have a heel spur, arthritis on the top of my foot and a pinched nerve aka CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) in my ankle. I am hopefully getting a spinal cord stimulator surgically installed in a couple months. I truly don't know how much longer I can handle the pain. I take 16mg of Suboxone everyday, I want to ask my doctor if he can switch me to a strong opiate for the next couple months and then switch back to Suboxone but wean off in a week instead of long term maintenance. I know Suboxone helps with pain but surely an opiate will be stronger? ## Yeah it definitely would, I don’t think you can easily make the switch though. I know that when I withdrew from regular pain medication withdrawal was over in a few days, I mean it took a full...

I was put on suboxone almost a year ago because a new pain doctor told me if I didn't switch to it then he couldn't help me. It was the scariest thing I've ever done but I did it. For the first 3 months I hated it. I had horrible insomnia and nausea. Then I go back to the NE pain center and my new pain doc no longer works there!!??? They set me up with another pain doctor but everyone everywhere assumes I got put on suboxone because I was an addict. Anyway I got through it and within a few more weeks, I only felt 100% complete pain relief and was full of energy! I lost 60 pounds! Out was great. Now nearly 6 months later it's like the opposite. I'm not taking it regularly cause it's no longer making my pain go away and my depression is completely out of control. T...

I was on 80mg of oxycontin 3 times a day and it was no longer helping after taking it for many, many, many years. I switched to Suboxone for my Chronic Pain Mgt. Was on 6mg films for the 1st year and always had extra, as I took them at night. I was shocked how well they worked along with Flexeril for my back, leg and feet pain. Then I was cut to 3mg film once a day. I usually take the 6mg film every other day, and still forget at times, so I may only use 11 instead of 14 in 28 days. I recently tried to cut to the equivalent of 1/3 a day, but the insomnia and anxiety were off the charts after only a few days. At my last appointment it was Student Teaching Day. My Doctor explained how I am there for pain management which is why I haven't been completely we end off the medication. He a...

He gave me 2 choices, stay on the methadone and increase the amount or go on suboxone. I went on the subs that day. I had come down 2 far with the methadone 2 start over, again. My question is: would any Dr. Ever put me on pain management, again? I suffer so severely with pain, I can't take much more. Even if I have 2 let my husband hold them 4 me ang give them 2 me as prescribed. Please, any suggestions may b helpful. ## I work in an...

I had lots of surgeries and many health problems. Used opiates 4 ten years and became addicted. I was on methadone 4 almost 5 years. Now I've been on suboxone 4 ten years.
