Stop Taking Methylphenidate

My son had SEVERE ADHD to the point of hitting teachers when he was 4 in preschool, so he was tried on many meds and finally placed him on 36 mg of Concerta and 1mg of Tenex for any left over aggression. When he was in 1st grade the Concerta was moved up to 54mg. Now he is almost 12 and he says he doesn't feel "normal" when he takes them (sometimes we skip weekends). What is the safest way to stop? ## Since it does contain Methylphenidate, which is a psychostimulant, there can be some problems and rebound effects, if you completely discontinue it abruptly. So, it really should be slowly tapered, to minimize the possibility of such issues occurring. Learn more Concerta details here. Have you consulted his doctor? They should be able to help you with a safe and effective taper...

My 8 year old is on methylphenidate 27 mg (concerta) and doing very well with it, but I have had many problems with his clinic. His next appointment will be in 2 weeks, and his medication won't last! I have vyvanse 10 mg from the last time he was taking those. My question is can he take vyvanse until his appointment date? Is vyvanse similar or not? I don't know about this type of medication much ....but I don't think it's good just to stop it because the "clinic" has failed too many times to do their job! I know we can go to ER, but this medication needs prior authorization and last time I did that, I got a prescription but the doctors at ER were too busy to do the prior authorization so in the end I couldn't get any... ## They are similar medications that ar...

Can anyone tell me if they have completely stopped making Methylphenidate 20 mg? Just the regular tablet. Not the extended release / yellow round tablet with sz imprinted on them manufactured by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals... ## I was panicked to think that might be the case, but I just found it at a CVS (in Tucson). From my efforts to find it, this is what I have learned… each CVS may give you a different answer, from "we have no control, we only receive what is sent to us" & "I have no way of finding out anything for you"... to "sure, I can order that for you". Bottom line, to find Sandoz methylphenidate don't give up after calling one or two CVSs! ## Hello Just curious, According to the FDA there is no stoppage or shortage of these pills only the exte...

been taking ritalin for years at high dose 80-100mg daily. always have had elevated bp but never treated. now 68 years old and have peripheral neuropathy esp in feet and hands and been presribed metroprolol 50 mg er. what is the stress when you hit the accelerator(ritalin) at the same time as brake(metoprolol? ## Hello, Jas! How are you? Has your doctor ever had you try stopping the Ritalin to see if your blood pressure goes down? That would be the normal procedure, before resorting to a blood pressure medication. I didn't find any interactions listed between them, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. However, you're basically just using one to counteract the other. What do you take the Ritalin to treat? Have you tried any alternative medications...

I'm on 3 of the 20 mg Ritalin and I had to go for a month without them. I was more sick than when I quit Oxycontin. Why I went without the Ritalin is because my doctor went on vacation for a month and forgot to write me a refill. I never knew that Ritalin could make you feel such bad withdrawals. ## It is a stimulant and stopping such a high dose abruptly can cause withdrawal effects, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and chills. How are you doing, now? Are things better? Are you on any other medications?

I stopped the metformin about 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with MS, and after they added Copaxone that made 5 medications and I wanted to cut some out, so I started with Metformin. Since then I've been achey, dizzy, and my jaw is hurting. Is this because I stopped the metformin? I also take Lamictal for bi-polar disorder, methylphenidate for ADD, and birth control. I've continued taking these. ## Those could be symptoms of your MS, rather than being due to any specific medication. MS is well known to cause random unexpected symptoms, according to NIH reports. But the Copaxone can also cause similar side effects. As to cutting out some medications, that might not be a good idea, sometimes we do need to be reliant on them for our health, and well being. How are you doing, now? Has...

What is a yellow, round shaped tablet with SZ imprinted on one side and 790 on the other? ## The pill which you are describing has been identified as Methylphenidate 20 mg, a generic form of Ritalin. Related Thread: view_drug_submission.asp?Drug=sz+790&Page=146846 Do you have any other questions or information to add? Please post back if you do... ## Been taking this generic brand of Ritalin for several years and wondering why it stopped having any or little effect on my ADD and also why it left my system so quickly (almost immediately). Thought it was a built-up tolerance. Recently discovered (by paying more than double price for the brand-name Ritalin) that this generic drug is far different from the brand-name one. The difference is acute and worth investigation.

that's what Adderall or add medication supposed to do: keep u awake, so u can read. ## I was just prescribed adderall for the first time and told to stop taking my Ritalin. Can anyone tell me the difference in them.. ## It isn't just so you can read, it helps people focus. Though it may seem odd, such stimulants have the opposite of their usual effect in such people and help them calm down and concentrate. However, if someone has narcolepsy or shift work sleep disorder, it can help them stay awake. The FDA warns that such medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and anorexia. Crystal, the active ingredient is different. Ritalin contains Methylphenidate, so it's very similar and used to treat t...

I have just been given Methylin as a generic for Ritalin. I have taken other generic forms of Ritalin. All others have been called Methylphenidate and have all responded as anticipated. Methylin has been very different. It has made me sleepy, not alert at all and most importantly has significantly lowered my blood pressure while raising my pulse. My last dosage lowered my bp to 63/46, pulse 96. I stopped the medication. Are there any others with similar effects while taking this medication? ## Tell your doctor and pharmacist that this generic doesn't work for you. There is no way that they can force you to take a generic that doesn't work I am not a doctor but all I see is it is the same drug just generic. Different brand. I may be wrong, but ask, I can't see you taking some...

Hi. I’m on seroquel, gabapentin, methylphenidate, klonopin, and lithium. I had surgery. Had filled out all the meds I take. After surgery I was on norco for 4 or 5 days. Still hurting and severely inflamed. I called the surgeons office. He gave me Tramadol 50 mg every 4 hours and ibuprofen. After about 4 days I started having tremors. Face and neck twisting stretching kind of thing. My left thigh is still numb and leg was very heavy. Also constant clearing my throat and non stop humming or singing or just making grunting noises. I called the pharmacy the next day as I was so wired and shaking I could barely stand up. Obviously they said stop immediately. I also quit the lithium. Now the shaking has gone away some But still clearing throat constantly and humming. It’s driving...

My 5 year old son was givin methylin 5 mg it worked for about a month then stopped, we upped it to the 10mg extended release, he developed anger issues so we decided to go back down the the 5 mg the new script we were givin wasnt methylin 5 mg it's methylphenid 5 mg. my questions is, is that the same thing? ## Hi. I have the same question. Did anyone give you an answer back in 2009 for the difference btw. these 2 drugs? Thanks. ## Yes, they are the same. The active ingredient is Methylphenidate, which is also what generics are called, and Methylin is a brand name of Methylphenidate. This medication is commonly used to treat ADHD, and the FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, mood changes, and weight loss. Ref: Methylphenidate In...

I found a round yellow pill on my floor that has a T at the top, then under the T it says 175. I'm sure it's for ADHD. ## Hi Tammy, A round yellow pill imprinted with T over 175 (separated by a horizontal score line) is reportedly identified as a 20mg Methylphenidate hydrochloride tablet. This medication is a CNS stimulant, used for ADHD, narcolepsy and more... For verification, the manufacturer is listed as Camber Pharma and the pill itself carries a National Drug Code of 31722-0175. I hope this helps! ## The round yellow pill marked T 175 is a bad generic of methylphenidate. I have severe headaches and kept vomiting so I stopped taking them and my symptoms went away.
