Ethinylestradiol (EE) is an estrogen medication which is used widely in birth control pills in combination with progestins.[7][8] In the past, EE was widely used for various indications such as the treatment of menopausal symptoms, gynecological disorders, and certain hormone-sensitive cancers. It is usually taken by mouth but is also used as a patch and vaginal ring.[7][12] The general side effects of EE include breast tendernes...

Hello, I started taking sprintec 3 weeks ago and have been spotting every day since. One of those weeks was like a period. When will it stop?!?! Kind of defeats the purpose of taking it =/ ## Hello, Gwen! How are you? It can be normal to experience these irregularities for up to the first 3 months of taking it, since it is a hormonal contraceptive that your body needs to gets used to. However, you should check with your doctor to be sure. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I started sprintec a week ago, I've never taken bc before. I took the first blue pill in the pack before I got my period, my doc said to take the Sunday after my period but I didn't wait, I started taking it when I bought them, now im late and I just had a single spot of blood in my undies. Is this normal for a person to miss a period and when do I take the white pills? Do I have to stop the blue ones and take the white ones inorder to have a period? ## I will explain a few things, so hopefully this will clear up your questions for you. The reason your doctor tells you to start them the first day of your period is so that you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If you start at any other time, you must take the pills daily, for at least 7 days, to be protected. Howev...

I have been on Sprintec for about a year now, and I always renew my prescription on time. However this time I did not. I just got off of the white pills yesterday, and I have no blue pills for today. Will I continue to bleed or will I stop? ## Hello, Nya! How are you? It should still stop, but you will no longer be protected from pregnancy, until you have taken a full week of the active pills. Restarting may also cause some spotting, according to the FDA. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, cramps, and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I started sprintec for the first time about a week & a half ago the sunday after my period. Literally got my period again right after. Ive just been bleeding & have tender breasts. No cramps or anything like usual. i'm confused & annoyed. How long will this last? ## Hello, Regina! How are you? You should have started it at the beginning of your cycle, which was the first day of your period, not after it was done, that would provide immediate protection from pregnancy. Starting it later in your cycle, as you did, requires a full 7 days for it to become effective in the body, so you'd need to use a backup form of protection until the 8th day of taking a pill, without missing any. That said, breakthrough bleeding can be a normal side effect of hormonal contraceptives, a...

Long story short I was unable to get my last birth control prescription filled so I haven't had for about two weeks now. Will I just have to start over at the next month and be fine?? ## I was wondering if after taking the IC tri-sprintec tablets for three weeks if i would be protected against pregnancy? ## After missing that many days, you will need to fully start over in order to be protected against pregnancy, generally that requires taking it for a full cycle, IE: one month. Vaughn, you are only protected while actively taking it, so you should continue beyond 3 weeks, if you are actively engaging in intercourse. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irregular bleeding, mood changes, and weight changes. R...

I had a daughter in oct 2011 and was on orthro evra, loved it but was too expensive. so my 3rd month my obgyn put me on sprintec and the 1st month I took it I started my period 3 days early, now that I'm on my second month I am 4 days late. Is this possible or should I take a prego test? I'm so nervous and it's driving me crazy. I have never missed a day :( ## If you haven't missed any, then the chances that you are pregnant are very slim, but you should consult your doctor or get a test done for your own piece of mind, if you're worried about it. And yes, such symptoms are normal when you are taking any new form of hormonal contraceptive and can last for the first 3 months. Are there any other questions or comments?

I forget to start my sprintec pill on Sunday ,so I start it on Monday, is that okay? This is first time am using these pills. ## Hello, Sonia! How are you? You can start it any day, it doesn't have to be on a Sunday. If you start it the first or second day of your period, you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. However, if you start it at any point later in your cycle, you'll need to take it for a full 7 days, before it reaches its full level of effectiveness in your body, which means using a backup method of protection, until the 8th day. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. I've been on Sprintec for a little over a month....before taking my periods were light and lasted no more than 5 days. I've had a very heavy period now for 2 weeks with LARGE clots as well as no libido at all....is this something to be concerned with and contact my doctor or just wait it out...I was on sprintec about five years ago and it was wonderful with no side effects but this time has me ready to give it up...please help! ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Our bodies do change with time, especially our hormonal levels and from the symptoms you've described, it sounds like your estrogen is too high, so the Sprintec may be adding too much for you. You might need to switch to something else. Some breakthrough bleeding can be n...

I started taking Sprintec late last week, so I dont have too long of an experience with it thus far. however, the night that I started taking it, almost immediately after I started my period. I had just had my regular period 2 weeks before. The bleeding on this period is INSANE. I havent bled this much since I was 16. the birth control that I was on before this (yaz) made it so that I only had a true period every 3 to 4 months, with spotting in between. My doctor changed me to Sprintec because the Yaz didnt seem to be working anymore the way that it should have. my doctor warned me that it could be like this for about 3 months or at least until my body becomes used to this certain medication. The amount of bleeding I am having is just so unreal that I am concerned that it is not normal....

I've been on Sprintec for 3 months, but I stopped taking them due to hair loss! Anyways, June was my last month on them. It's July & I haven't gotten my period. I'm irregular by the way. Does Sprintec mess up periods after not taking them anymore? ## Hello, Kristy! How are you? Usually, when you take an OC for a few months, your body stops producing the relevant hormones on its own and, once you stop taking it, it can take 3 months or so, for things to return to normal and your body to start producing them, again. So yes, this can happen and is usually nothing to worry about. However, if it continues after a couple months, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi! i've been taking Sprintec for more then one year now! this month I skiped one blue pill, and after 2 days, even if I took the pills at my regular hour in those days, I got my period! Should I continue to take the pills form this pachage until I am done with them,or should I discontinue them and start a new cycle on Sun? ## If you've only skipped one pill, it is fine to just continue the current pack. Skipping it caused the breakthrough bleeding, but your body will get back onto your normal cycle, soon. However, missing a pill does increase your risk of getting pregnant, so you should use some other form of back-up protection for at least a week. Are there any other questions?

I having been takin tri spintec for 3 years and after my husband has been 'fixed i no longer need it: so my question is, will i experience any side effects because of not taking this anymore ## Yes, you can experience some minor effects, because your body will have to readjust to not having the hormones. This could include some nausea, weight fluctuations and acne. It will not last for too long, however, usually a month or so, at most. Do you have any other questions?

i was on tri sprintec and june 27 i went to the drug store and she gave me these tri previfm pills but i started bleeding friday nite june 24 i had missed 2 pills now im still bleeding i just staretd taking the tri previfm pill june 27 cause it was a monday. my period was june 1. ## You are more than likely bleeding because you missed taking some of the pills. When you take them all, as you should, there is usually a week where you don't take any, or take a placebo pill with no active ingredients, that triggers your body to start your menstrual cycle. Therefore, by missing 2 tablets, you have done the same thing. You should, however, still continue to take them daily, as prescribed and make sure you don't miss any more of them, because that puts you at risk of pregnancy. Are the...

I used to take Sprintec and my period would start on Mondays. I was off of it a few months because my prescription ran out and it took me a while to get to the doctor. I want to stay with a Monday start so what day should I start back taking my pills? ## Hello, Keshia! How are you? You can start them on a Monday, as long as your doctor approves and it doesn't necessarily have to be when you are on your period. You can start them at any time during your cycle, but if you aren't on your period, it will take 7 days for them to reach their full level of efficacy in the body to prevent pregnancy. So, you'll need to use a back up form of protection, until the 8th day. The FDA lists the most common side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headach...

Hi, I was on sprintec for nearly 4 years and everything was fine when I was on it. But do to health problems with my gallbladder I had to quit taking it. It's been nearly 4 months and I still haven't had a normal period. I think I had one that lasted 3 days and then another one about a week ago that only lasted one day. Is this normal since I was on it for so long? ## Hello, Lauren! How are you? Yes, it can take several months for your body to balance your hormones back out on its own. It was used to relying on the oral contraceptives to control them. However, as long as your last pap smear was normal and your doctor sees no reason to be concerned, then it's nothing to worry about. According to the FDA, you may experience other withdrawal effects, such as irritability, PMS-l...

I started sprintec on the first day of my period.ever since then,I have stop and go bleeding.today has been the heaviest since my period.is this a side effect for sprintec? ## Hello, Evelynn! How are you? I'm sorry about that, I know it's very annoying. Yes, that can be a side effect of oral contraceptives and it may take about 3 months for things to settle back down and normalize, because your body is getting used to the added hormones. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. If it continues too long, or gets very heavy, then you should consult your prescriber, as this may not be the right one for you to take. Is there anything else I can help with?
