I now have muscle pain in my back and legs. Could this come from the change? ## That is unusual, these medications are generally known to help lower triglyceride levels. What has your doctor advised? I've been taking Simvastatin 40 mg for a year and my cholesterol in below normal for my age and weight (130). Can I quit taking it cold turkey or do I need to ease off of it gradually? The only side effect I've had is the joint pain and not much energy. ## Hi pete, Although Simvastatin can be cold-turkeyed, I would still urge you to let your doctor know before you stop taking it, since I have read a few reports of terrible leg cramping and cardiac problems a couple weeks after stopping it. Everyone reacts differently, so there's no telling whether or not you'd even be likely to experience such symptoms. But if you want to play it safe you can always taper down by taking a fraction of the dose over a period of a couple weeks or so. Has anyone else here had success in stop...

What is the difference, besides appearance, between simvastatin 20 mg drl and simvastatin? I just refilled a prescription of the drl. It is small, round and brown. The new simvastatin prescription is small, oval and sort of orange/tan. ## In this case, it is highly likely that they were just manufactured by a different company. I can't say with certainty, since the poster didn't provide the markings from the tablets they mentioned, but if the dosage is the same, that's usually the first thing that confuses many people. Each manufacturer has to use different markings on their tablets, to enable them to be identified in case of emergency. The shape and color of pills is purely up to their whit and whim. odor ## I'm sorry, are you referring to the tablets as having an odor or do they cause you to smell something funny when you take them? Some medications, since they are basically just chemicals, do have a funny odor to them, this is not unusual.

I started taking 20 mg of simvastatin about 6 days ago. I haven't had any problems except for a mild headache. But last night, something happened that is really freaking me out. I don't know if I should continue to take the medication. I took my pill after supper around 6 p.m. I went to bed around 11. As soon as I laid down, I felt a tightness in my chest and like I couldn't catch my breath. I don't have asthma and have never expereinced anything like this before. I felt like I couldn't take a deep breath. I also started yawning one after another for about 15 minutes. I read the leaflet for this drug that I received from the pharmacy. It listed shortness of breath and tightness in the chest as a sign of an allergic reaction? Should I take my pill tonight and see if i...

I was recently told that simvastatin depletes CoQ10, leading to the "weakness" side effect. Anyone heard this? ## I have to agree with that statement, as there are a number of discussions relating to Statin drugs (atorvastatin, cerivastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin) depleting the body of coenzyme Q10. Other types of drugs like beta-blockers also deplete the body of this too, but one way to help counteract this is to supplement with CoQ 10. Personally, If I were short on this vital nutrient, I would supplement a minimum of 400-600mg a day while taking one of those drugs that inherently depletes it. That's just me, as I would prefer to be well stocked if I became aware that this was happening to me. I hope this helps! ## Thank you

I've been on 10 mg Simvastatin for 3 months. It was prescribed after a TIA landed me in the ER one evening. Extensive testing was done including the CT, Echo, and others. ALL were totally normal. I figured from the get go that my extreme stress level (an easy 25) was the culprit. My cholesterol was 220 and that set off alarm buttons. It has been 240 for years so I wasn't in the least bit concerned. Other things were prescribed on my chart including coumadin which I refused. I take vitamins & minerals (fish oil, flax oil, D3, SE, CA, and others) daily and have for years. Reluctantly I agreed to try the simvastatin 10 mg for 60 days. First lab work showed cholesterol at 178 and I said enough. Realizing I'd have to back off a little slowly, I'm now taking 5 mg for 30 da...

Ezetimibe + Simvastatin Drug Index

Ezetimibe/simvastatin is a drug combination used for the treatment of dyslipidemia. It is a combination of ezetimibe (known as Zetia in the United States) and the statin drug simvastatin (known as Zocor in the US).
