What is the side effect with this drug besides the fact that it is addicting? ## I was recently prescribed this medication for a spinal cord condition and I haven't taken it yet. I'm afraid to. If it's not a narcotic medication, why so many warnings and why is it addicting? ## I don't know about the narcotic of it, but I DO know my husband has been taking it for a couple years for his back pain. He didn't seem to be addicted, but it didn't help his pain much for starters anyway. Secondly, he was taking 150mg at one time, which you shouldn't take over 100mg at a time. Then, because he has a history of hepatitis (the one that goes away, don't remember which one that is A,B,C,D or E). Anyway, he had to stop taking it because it caused spots on his liver, and...

My opinion is stay the hell away from this drug. I took it for less than a week for severe back pain. I experienced the following, all of which indicate a deadly allergic reaction and are supposed to be rare: -extreme swelling of the tongue to the point where my teeth were cutting into it; -trouble sleeping/night terrors; -constant itching at night that was affecting my sleep; -frequent feeling of having to urinate. The drug did barely anything for my pain and I had to up my dose within two days. That was when the side effects started. Again, not worth it. Please stay away. Pharmacists and doctors will insist that the drug is safe but it isn't. I've also personally talked to three people who have had seizures as a result of this drug. Ibuprofen will do as much for pain as Tramad...

My doctor just prescribed me Tramadol for a chronic back pain issue. If I take this med every night, will there be any long term negative effects after a year or two? One more question: what percentage of people who take Tramadol experience the euphoria that can be a side effect of other opiates? ## Hello, Jackson! How are you? There can be risks associated with the long-term use of any medication. The FDA does classify Tramadol as an opiate, so they do warn that it has a risk of being habit forming. With long-term use, it could also cause liver damage, but that's very rare. Other typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and constipation. It's listed that the euphoria was reported by between 1% and 10% of people. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I...

I've been taking Tramadol (Ultram) for 4 months for an ankle injury. I only take it as needed, which is no more than 2x's a day. 3 weeks ago I started developing hives that would come and go. My skin would itch, increasing in severity at night. I couldn't stand it so I went to the minor care office (5 x's ! ) I was put on 3 rounds of Prednisone and the hives disappeared each time only to reappear when the Prednisone ended. The doctor did blood work and did a biopsy. The blood work came back fine, showing I had a drug allergy. After stopping all my meds and reintroducing them (one at a time) it became very clear it was the Tramadol! The rash is better since stopping the Tramado, but my question is (Finally), how long can I expect it to take for this drug to clear my syste...

My husband takes Tramadol for pain. It has caused him to be depressed. He is now addicted to the drug can't function without it, and he is always angry or agitated at everything around him. He can't keep food down and can't sleep. He has tried to stop taking it but is now a down hill depressed state. ## Well unfortunately our bodies can become dependent upon anything that we take regularly for a long period of time, anything from your morning orange juice to a cup of milk with dinner. There is a big difference between addiction and dependence though. To be addicted he would have to be abusing the drug, taking it more than prescribed and going to extreme measures to get more. Now the problem with dependence is that while the withdrawals are not as severe as addiction, you do ...

What are all the side effects, mild and severe, of Tramadol? ## Deborah, Tramadol has been very effective for pain and has the least side effects of most of the other pain meds. I've had chronic pain, spinal surgery, plates and screws and more - the point is that it gives pretty good coverage for severe pain. You might be aware of skin problems like itching and possibly hives. Does not seem to cause the drowsiness and fog some of the other pain meds can. Thinking and reaction time seems good. Careful stopping abruptly - if so flu like symptoms and really sleepy. Hope this helps. ## The FDA lists the common side effects of Tramadol as possibly including nausea, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth, and headache. Severe side effects may include shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, ...

My 87 year old father-in-law was given Ultracet for leg pain. Whereas he has had a very sharp mind and recall he now exhibits slowness when filling out doctor office forms. His eyes lack their usual luster and he is very unsteady with his hands and feet. Is this to be expected with the use of Ultram? ## It does contain a mild opiate narcotic called Tramadol, so it could cause these types of side effects. The FDA also warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

What are the side effects of Vicoprofen? ## I was given vicoprofen several years ago for pain. After taking it for a month, I only had to take a pill once a week. There since has been controversy about it being a narcotic, so now I am just given ultracet. I have been in constant every since. If I miss a dose of ultracet I can hardly function because the pain is too overwhelming. This seems more like a narcotic to me, nokw it seems like I am really on a drug!!!!!!! ## Vicoprofen contains Hydrocodone, and Acetaminophen, both it and Tramadol are classified as opiate analgesics. The FDA warns that they both carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
