My grandma is taking losartan 100mg OD. She accidentally took the medication twice a day. Which stressed us. What is the effect of this medication to my grandma's hypertension/condition? She doesn't feel anything unusual though. ## Hello, Val! How are you and how is your grandmother doing? Have you checked her blood pressure? It could cause it to drop too low and to develop a low heart rate, though if she's not feeling sick or dizzy, then she's likely fine. However, you should check with her doctor to be safe. ## Am taking Losarton 100 mg twice a day as per my Neph doctor. But my primary doctor wants me to only take one 100 mg per day. My doctor is transferring me off of Norvasc (which has worked great to keep my blood pressure under control) to Plendil because of a change in medications covered by my HMO. Has anyone else changed to Plendil and would you share with me if it worked as well as your former medication? ## Same thing happened to me, except in reverse. I had been tanking Plendil for years with great success. The Military Pharmacy switch to Norvasc. When I asked my Doctor, he said they were interchangable. ## You can safely switch from one to the other, as long as your doctor approves, and the dosage has been taken under careful consideration. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. I've had to change medications mult...

I have taken Novasc without significant side effects however amlodipine causes shortness of breath what is the difference ## Hello, Cherrylyn! How are you? It could be due to one of the inactive ingredients in the generic, they don't have to be the same as those used in the name brand. To avoid the problem, you may want to ask your doctor to prescribe it as brand medically necessary, so you no longer receive the generic fem your pharmacy. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No thank you, I've already done that.

I started taking 10 mg of Norvasc 4 days ago and my feet & ankles were swollen to capacity. They almost hurt and they felt very hot. It was given to me for high blood pressure. ## This is one of the bad side effects of the drug. I've been taking Norvasc for almost 6 years now. It had the same effect on me and I can only take 5 mg. a day without the swelling. I have also developed a rash on my lower legs as well and was told by a dermatologist that it could be from the medicine. I take 3 drugs to try and control my BP but I have yet to find anything that controls things. I've had hypertension for 20 years now and I fear that any day I will have a stroke or heart attack or kidney problems. Hope you will talk to your doctor about your ankles swelling. Hi! Is it ok to split the dose of amlodipine; 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening? What could be the possible effect of doing this? ## Yes, that can be done, unless you've been given some specific reason why you shouldn't do so. Most doctors prescribe them to be taken in one dose, to help ensure that patients are more compliant on taking them. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take Norvasc, Amlodipine is the generic. Generics do not always have anything but the main drug ingredient due to patents on the original drug? I have worked with my current Doctor to take it twice a day 12 hours apart. I always had a higher BP reading in AM so I take 5 mg twice a day and if it gets to high I take 7.59 mg and monitor closely. Its working. ## Sorry, I ment to say I take 7.50mgs at 5PM if it is running high. This helps AM high BP for me and then I take 5mgs in AM to get through the day. ## Generics still contain fillers, in most cases, along with the active ingredient, the patent on a name brand doesn't prevent them from using them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Amlodipine as possibly including nausea, headache, dizziness, increased urination, and hypote...

I was told that Norvasc can cause extra growth of gum tissue, is that so? ## I noticed swelling in my gum. The doctor reduced the dosage from 5mg-2.50mg and my gum was ok afterwards ## Yes, Norvasc has been reported to cause overgrowth of gum tissue (gingival hyperplasia) as a side effect, but it is very rare, occurring in less than 0.01% of those that take it. More common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and bleeding gums. Ref: Medline Plus Amlodipine/Norvasc Is there anything else I can help with?

Because of my medication's schedule I must take losartan, metformin and norvasc together. Are there any side effects or risk for doing so? ## I didn't find any problems, or interactions listed, but it is always best to double check. The FDA does warn that you may experience more side effects than usual, when taking multiple medications, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and increased urination. I have been taking 10 mg of Norvasc daily for a year and a half and have suffered all the negative side effects. I also take 80 mg of Lisinopril daily. My BP prior to adding Norvasc was anywhere from 165/95 to 200/95 (at this time I was taking Cozaar and Lisinopril). BP is now 124/85 to 145/95 BUT the side effects are so severe my quality of life is all but destroyed and I am pretty sure it is not the Lisinopril causing the side effects. My cardiologist gave me an Rx for 5 mg of Norvasc and told I can reduce the dosage but he can't guarantee my BP will not sky rocket. MY QUESTION IS, HAS ANYONE REDUCED THE DOSAGE THEY WERE TAKING OF NORVASC AND DID THEIR BP INCREASE APPRECIABLY? ## Hello, Alan! How are you? That is always a risk, when lowering the dosage of such a medication. Why di...

What prescription drug can replace Norvasc and Cartia with low incidence of side effects. I already take Lisiniprol and Atenolol. ## Dr. just replaced novasc & lipitor with cadulet 10mg/20mg. He said this one pill will work better than those two pills. I'm also trying to find out side effects. ## Caduet is a combination medication that contains Amlodipine, which is used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions, with Atorvastatin, which is used to help lower cholesterol. Learn more Caduet details here. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. As to medications to replace others, it is usually best to discuss such things with your doctor, because there's really no way to say that any particular medication may cause you less side e...

I started Norvasc, 5 mg, on 12/29. I was switched from Lisinopril, because I was experiencing angioedema, a common side effect with Lisinopril. I've been on it for a few weeks and I am beginning to wonder if this drug is causing the scary side effects I've been experiencing. Yesterday my husband rushed me to the ER, because I suddenly couldn't remember how to put a leash on a dog, or do the most simple task like open the door. As he began to drive to the hospital my heart started pounding furiously and I seriously thought I might die. The ER told me it was a panic attack and sent me home with Ativan. Then this afternoon I awoke from a nap with my heart pounding furiously. It was pounding so hard that it was echoing in my head and I got very flushed. I called my doctor and sp...

I am 50 years old and I am taking 5mg Norvasc as daily maintenance for my hypertension. I want to be informed if there would be harsh side effects I could suffer if I would take Viagra or Cialis? ## It really depends on what your blood pressure levels are and your cardiac health. The way Viagra and Cialis work is by increasing blood flow, so they can cause low blood pressure and low heart rate. You can learn more Viagra details here and there are more Cialis details here. What have your readings been? Have you asked your doctor about taking one of them?
