Will the side effects of MS Contin, (eg nausea and tiredness ) subside after time. I have been prescribed 10mg x twice a day but find the sickness and tiredness is still an issue and hope it is temporary and will settle down. ## Hello, Hamish! How are you? Yes, technically they should. Side effects are usually transient and go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that may take 4 to 5 weeks. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause other side effects, such as dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## If they don't ease off, after that time period, then you should consult your prescriber, as you may need to try a different medication.

I've been on Soma for 20 years and hate to admit that I take up to 10 a day sometimes, just to get enough relief from severe muscle spasms so that I can sleep. I broke my back in 1988 after lifting 17,000 lbs in 6 hrs. and have undergone 5 major operations, for a fusion that failed. So they finally diagnosed me with failed back syndrome. I had 3 intrathecal morphine pump implants over a period of 12 years, but after the last one malfunctioned I chose to have it removed and chose to take the oral med MS Contin, which I've been on for 4 years, 30 mg. 3x a day. I'm also on Lortab for breakthrough pain 10/500 3x daily. I've been on this medication for 18 years and have built a tolerance to it, so I often have to take 5-6 a day. Since I have liver disease would it be safer to...

I'm 120lbs, can I take 60mg of MS Contin ## Hello, Kaye! How are you? Has your doctor prescribed it for you? It can vary from person to person depending on your tolerance to opiates. This dose may be too much for some people, but not for others, if they are used to taking it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Kaye, if you're uncomfortable with taking that much, ask your dr to give you a lower dose for a few weeks and see how it does. If you haven't taken MS Contin or Morphine before, it may make you sleepy or put you to sleep, so take it when you don't have to be alert or awake for a while.

My Doctor just switched my Lortab to MS Contin 60 mg, 12 hr. time release. I had been taking Lortab for 13 yrs and it was no longer effective. I am achieving pain relief with MS Contin but my entire body itches. Will this symptom go away with time? I do recall that I had itching when first using Lortab which eventually went away. Has anyone had the same experience and does the itching go away? Thanks so much!! ## itching is common side effect of many pain medications with oxycontin or oxycodone being the worse, consult with your Dr. in regards of using bendryl, this can cause drowsiness so be careful ## MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine CR, which is a very potent narcotic analgesic. The itching is not a very common side effects, however, some people do experience it. You...

Can anyone tell me what 30 mg of morphine er would be equivalent to if it were taken with alcohol? I read if you drink with morphine er it could release the entire pill into your system. I didn't know this when I was drinking beer with it. Thanks. ## Hello, Freida! How are you? No, I am not aware of any issues like that. However, drinking alcohol while taking it should generally be avoided, due to the fact that it can potentiate some of the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, drowsiness and dizziness than usual, as reported by the FDA. It is also warned that MS Contin carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I'm on hydrocodone 7.5 and my doctor also gave me MS Contin 60mg CR.. If I completely stop my hydrocodone will I have any withdrawals while taking the MS Contin CR as prescribed? 1 a day.. Or can I take 2 MS Contin per day?? ## Hello, Heather! How are you? You should only take it as prescribed, so if your doctor has noted once daily, then you shouldn't exceed that, without their approval. Hydrocodone and Morphine are equivalent on a one to one ratio, so no, you shouldn't experience any withdrawals on the 60mg dose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on 1-4mg of suboxone/day for about 1.5 years and I just took 25mg of ms contin. How long should I wait to dose again on my bupe? ## Until you are in withdrawal, just like when starting Suboxone, to avoid precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You have kind of helped me. I was on 640mg of ms contin daily. Am now on 16mg of suboxone. I was wondering what would happen if i had a shot of ms contin. Going by what you have said, i wont get a withdrawal from the shot immediately? ## Gayrobbie, That's s really heft...

I've been on ms contin (morphine er 30 mg) 3 x daily. I was also taking doxepin 100 mg for sleep. Ended up with a massive headache & eye pain. Ended up in the e.r. where a nurse said the doxepin cancels out the morphine. Anyone know about this? ## No, I can't find anything on this, either. Similarly to your other question, this is another case where taking them together causes potentiation of the side effects, though. Thus, you could experience more intense nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual, as reported by the FDA. The Morphine itself can sometimes cause headaches in some people that take it, so can the Doxepin, so that may also have been potentiated and resulted in the severe headache/eye pain that you experienced, which sounds like it may have been a migraine. It...

morphine ## Is the number 60 the only marking on the tablet? If so, then this is not Morphine. It contains 60mgs of Fexofenadine, a generic for Allegra used to treat allergies. Please post back and let me know the exact markings on the tablet. ## What is the type of pill that is ORANGE, it is OVAL in SHAPE, on one side displaying the letters rph and the other side the numbers 60?? please help me out ## it is 60 on one side and n on one side its a contin 60mg what is it use for ## I recently came across orange oval pills, with the number "60" on one side, and "rph" on the other side. is ms contin and msir an effective combo for long term and breakthrough pain ## Hello, Babs! How are you? It can be effective, but it's really going to depend on the person's tolerance to narcotics and the severity of their pain. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have they been prescribed for you?

I have a spondylolisthesis at L-5. My pain management doctor wants to switch me from 10/325 Oxycodone to ms contin. How much ms contin would give me the same pain relief? ## Hello Bob! How are you doing? You need 1.5mgs of Morphine (MS Contin) for each 1mg of Oxycodone, so 15mgs is equal to each 10mgs and so on. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does Purdue Pharma still manufacture MS Contin? If not, has the patent been sold to another producer? ## The name brand MS Contin is still owned and manufactured by Purdue Pharma, according to FDA listings, but there are generics, and other formulations available. They also warn that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as dizziness, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, and constipation. Do you have any other questions?

I have tried every where to find out how many milligrams are released and how often in a controlled release 60 mg MS Contin pill... If I take a 60 mg controlled release MS Contin, is 5mg released every hour or is 15mg released every 2 hours? That was just an example so I am understood. Thank you. ## Are you taking the name brand, or a generic? The answer can vary depending on who has manufactured the tablets in question. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Generally, there is a steady release rate, but it can also depend on how much fluids you are taking in, your stomach acid, and etc.

I've been taking this for a severe foot injury now after my second surgery I want to stop altogether! Before I started taking ms contin my pain doctor had me on percocet 10/325 6 tablets daily. I'm in much less pain and I'm tired of the side effects! How do pain management doctors wean people off of this? ## They decrease the daily dosage. Talk to your dr and tell him that you pain is less and that you want to taper off of the MS Contin. Tell him that there are times that you still need pain meds, but not 27/7.

Hello~ I’ve been taking 5/325% for severe back pain due to an injury since 2012. I had surgery in 2014. I’m still experiencing severe pain and have been taking the Percocet since. Recently my doctor has prescribed MS Contin 15 mg. Although it did take the pain down a few notches, I became very dizzy and it felt like the world is spinning around me. I actually stumbled a few times which I felt was putting me at more risk. Then came the nausea and the feeling sick part. My question is, what are peoples experience as far as does the dizziness and nausea feeling go away after you’ve been taking it for a few days or longer? I realize that everybody and every body is different, but I would love to hear others’ experiences to help me decide whether I will continue takin...

Can anyone recommend a good brand for 100mg MS Contin? The last one I had was gray small and circular. But it did not seem to work very well at all. Does anyone here take these and maybe recommend the top 3 good companies that produce them? I KNOW EVERYONE Is different that's why I'm asking for 3 different brands. Please and THANK you. ## When I took it, I was taking the product manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, it worked very well for me, but that was years ago, and their products seems to be hit, or miss, for some people. The FDA warns that Morphine carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Is anyone else aware of any good companies that manufacture it?

Can you safely take ambien CR while on MS Contin ER 60 mgs? The ms contin makes me sleepy but I still can't fall asleep. I've been taking ambien cr for over a year. My pain Dr. just switched hydrocodone for MS Contin.. any information on this combination will be appreciated. Thanks ## Hello, Heather! How are you doing? It would be best to double check with your doctor, before combining these medications. They both cause depression of the central nervous system, which may be problematic for some people. This might cause dangerously lowered heart rate, blood pressure and breath rate, which could lead to coma or be fatal. The FDA classifies MS Contin as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsines...

Switch from taking Vicodin 15mg 4xaday to MS Contin 15mg twice a day with 15mg Vicodin 3x a day . Why is my pain not getting any better? ## There are no 15mg Vicodin tablets, so what are you taking with the MS Contin? The dosage may not be equivalent, so that could explain why it isn't handling your pain. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
