I was prescribed Losartan 50 mg for a heart condition 10 months ago For the last month I have been having extreme left leg pains waking me up at least twice every night. Since taking Losartan I have put on weight, suffered muscle cramps and insomnia but decided I would live with them for 12 months when my doctor will review . But the pain in my leg is no joke any longer. ## Why are they making you wait a year for a review? Usually, when someone has a heart condition, they are checked very frequently for the first few years. Things do not normally go to a one year check up, unless the person has remained stable for a long period of time. When I first had heart failure, I started out seeing the doctor every two weeks, then went to once a month, then once every 2 months, and so on. It took...

I am taking Losartan 50 mgs twice a day and I am getting terrible joint & muscle pain. Can it be from the meds? Orrrrrrr could it be from the simvistatin? ## Have you talked to your doctor about this? The first guess as to the culprit would probably be the Simvastatin, these statin medications are very well known to cause these types of side effects in some people that use them. This means it may not be the right medication for you to use and you may need to switch to something else. The Losartan can also cause these types of side effects, but it isn't known to do so as frequently as the Simvastatin. ## How many different medications are you taking with the Losartan? Based on information I've gathered, I'm thinking that Losartan is the primary cause of your joint and mus...

I have been on it for 2 months and the side effects have been awful. I couldn't stand it any more. I stopped taking it last Wednesday. It's been 5 days. I now have swollen ankles. Is this something to worry about? What is the risk of stopping and how long does it take to get it out of your system? ## Hello, Lindyann! How are you? Yes, you shouldn't have stopped it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect, such as what you're experiencing with the edema. You may also have dangerously elevated blood pressure. If the doctor prescribed 25mg of Losartan, can I cut a 50 mg of Losartan in half? Thought it would save some money. ## Hello, Rita! How are you? Yes, that can be done, as long as it's not a time released medication and your doctor approves. I've been doing this every day for several years, now. Before I had insurance, I discover it was much cheaper to buy 30 of the 50mg tablets, instead of 60 25mg tablets, and break them in half, since I take it twice a day. Most of them are even scored to make it easier to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. The one caution I would like to posit is to make sure you take it will a full glass of water and swallow it immediately. This medication tend...

I think that I missed my dose today at 1:30, but I'm not sure? Will I be ok to wait until tomorrow to take it? Also should I wait the entire 24 hours or just take it in the morning? ## Hello, Chad! How are you? What did you end up doing? It is always best to check with your doctor regarding what you should do in such a situation, however, in some instances, it is safer to take an extra dose, rather than risk skipping one. Since missing a dose could cause dangerous rebound elevations to your heart rate and blood pressure, which could lead to heat attack, or stroke, according to the AMA. However, doubling up just once, usually only results in your experiencing more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination, as listed by the FDA. Now, of course, there a...
