Can topiramate make you have an aversion to food? Can it make food not taste good? I was recently prescribed 25mg 1x daily to aid in weight loss. After 4 weeks of taking the medication with no side effects, this past weekend I noticed blurriness in the eyes and trails when I turned my head from left to right. I've also been having a tough time just focusing on objects. I've now been off of the medication for 4 days.Since then I've been to my eye doctor, had a full dilation, exam, etc. My eyes, optic nerves, etc. are all 100% healthy. I am new to this drug. I'm taking 200 mg and wondering how the side effects are for others on it. I'm on it now for almost a week and feel Eh. ## Have you experienced any other side effects, so far? The FDA lists the typical ones for this medication as possibly including nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, memory problems, menstrual pain and nervousness. I was on topiramate for the last 2 1/2 years for migraines. I am a therapist and was getting pretty fed up with the cognitive side effects, as well as hope to try and have a baby in the next year so I stopped taking it. Cognitive side effects went away immediately for me, however I have gained 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I read about this and was worried, but given the fact that I never really lost much weight on the drug, I didn't think it would effect me in that way. I've been prescribed the generic version of Topamax... The mfg. is zydus, but I'm afraid to take them after reading a lot of bad reviews... I haven't been taking topiramate for very long and finally decided to read the side effects today. It says it causes problems with cognition and can cause drowsiness, but I feel a ton more alert and clear headed than I have in a while. I have suffered from depression for years, and even the usual daily blues have gone away. I find my self having more energy and needing less sleep. The only thing I have noticed so far that goes along with side effects that others experience is that soda tastes HORRIBLE. Has anyone had any benefits from using Topamax for Trigeminal Neuralgia? Are there any serious side effects? ## Topamax contains the active ingredient Topiramate. Like any medication, there are those that have had good results from it and those that do not and have to try something else. I was recently prescribed Topiramate 25mg tablet to aid in post-concussion. After taking 1 pill last night, I am experiencing sharp chest pains, feeling like a bad case of heartburn. Is this a common reaction? Of the two side effects, chest pain is actually regarded as something serious that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Sir, My son is 9 years old now. He got sudden epileptic attack when he was 4 years old. Inspite of immediate admission in Hospital and rigerous treatment, he had continuous seizures for every 5 minutes. Nothing has been diagnosed in 5 MRIs and doctors say there is no structural diffect and having functional problem in EEG. He last all the activities slowly, including vision and hearing. I recently had to change pain drs b/c mine closed his practice. I have been fighting w/my WC company to detox from the pain meds I take for the last 5 years b/c I'm having a lot of detrimental secondary side effects. The new doc's PA is having me come off of the Topiramate (1200 mg daily) to 400mg daily in one month. This seems a little crazy fast to me. I started topiramate (topamax) 6 weeks ago for migraines and went from 25 to 50mg after 2 weeks because I was doing fine on it but the last 4 weeks I’ve stayed at 50mg because I was feeling tired/foggy, but now suddenly over the last 9 days I’ve had cold-like symptoms, sore breasts, twitchy upper left back, awful backache (U/A checked out as clear), tummy ache/pains, pain under my ribs and nausea...I am feeling very anxious about it all. I have observed several side effects while taking Topiramate as prescribed by my doctor. I know I need to be careful when consuming alcohol and taking this medication. With that being said, I am an adult and fully aware of my actions, and although I am not increasing my consumption, but furthermore more mindful and drinking what I would consider less. I am noticing nights where I am forgetting a lot the next day or black outs... has anyone else had this occur as well while taking this mediation?
