Side Effect Prednison

I was recently put on a high dosage (50mg) of Prednisone a day. I was to stay on this dosage for three days, then cut it in half for three days, and then repeat until I was, by the fifteenth day, completely off the medication. Unfortunately, when my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, she momentarily forgot about psych history. On the fifth day of me taking Prednisone, I had a psychosis episode, and came to the realisation that my chaotic moods, and the sudden extreme bouts of depression and lack of concentration, had been a side effect of the medication. After speaking with my doctor, we dropped the dosage right down to 5mg and I was on that for four days before stopping completely, which was five days ago. The problem is, my moods are still not back to normal, and neither is my ability t...

I am halfway thru a 10 day course of prednisone for pneumonia. Iam feeling much better except that I have developed a weird feeling as of an overinflated balloon. My body feels very tight. Am I the only one? Lisa12 ## Hello, Lisa12! How are you feeling? No, you aren't the only one that experiences this type of thing. These are very common side effects to most steroid medications, but they should wear off a few days after you finish your course of treatment with it. If they do not, or if they get worse, please consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for your response but can you tell me what is causing this tightness?? Is it trapped gas? It is affecting my breathing. Lisa12

Hi, I am 25 and I have been on prednisone since I was 15 for an adrenal deficiency I have. I was taking a 5mg dose daily for 10 years and typically I should be on them for life but I have recently decided that the side effects outweigh the benefits and have come off them about 9 weeks ago. The first week I did experience a horrible fever for a couple of days and could barely move. Now my symptoms (which I believe are due to the Prednisone withdrawals) consist of itchy rashes on my hands and feet, and also aches a pains everywhere! I wake up and everything seems to hurt from my feet to my neck. Are these symptoms due to coming off of the Prednisone and if so how long will the side effects take to subside? Thanks :) ## Hello, Monica! How are you? Did you come off of it abruptly, without a...

I have a terrible rash on my neck, chest and spreading to my breasts. I am on 20 mg. of prednisone (reduced from 30 mg) and have been for almost a month. Could this rash be from the prednisone?? ## Hi Georgia sanders, Based on my research, "rash" is listed as one of the rare side effects of Prednisone. I recommend speaking with your doctor about this if possible, just so the symptoms don't get any worse. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Prednisone Details I hope this helps! ## Is there any risk of side effects if a child only took 20 milligrams of prednisone for one day, then totally stopped?

The best time to take predinsone is during the day because the side effects usually occur at night and it has been proven to make u feel very restless and moody be certain to drink plenty of fluids to keep your body hydrated while taking this steroid i have had asthma all my life it is normally controlled with my albuterol but spring calls for prednisone lol hope this was helpful.... ## Thanks for sharing that bit of information. It seems like everyone around me has been getting crazy allergies this spring with everything starting to bloom again. If I may make a suggestion, I've also heard that garlic and raw honey makes for potent antihistamine effects. This is for anyone who may not have immediate access to allergy medication when push comes to shove and nostrils begin to flare lo...

I have bad anxiety, and labyrinthitis, I was prescribed to Prednisone and Azthromycin. I took 2 10 mg tabs of Prednisone yesterday around 11 am, and I started freaking out last night and ALL DAY today. I called my doc and pharmacist and they told me don't take it again. It's been an all day anxiety attack. Sweating feet and hands, my mind playing tricks on me, constantly feeling as if I'm going to die, impending doom, dizziness (which also could be my lab), brain fog, just feeling like I'm going to shut down and die. Help please ## Hello, Joshua! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the bad experience you've had. The FDA classifies Prednisone as a steroid and it is well known to cause those types of side effects, in some people that take it, along with nausea,...

I have hives from taking prednisone. My mouth also feels torn up, and some minor throat irritation. I was on the meds for 6 days. When will the hives dissapear, and other symptoms? Anyone have this experience? ## If you developed hives from taking it, there is a good chance that you had an allergic reaction to this medication, as reported by the FDA, and if that is the case, you will have to avoid taking it in the future, because such allergic reactions tend to get worse, with repeated exposure. Have you had your doctor check it out for you? A couple years ago, I discovered the hard way that I was allergic to the antibiotic Bactrim and it took several weeks for all of the symptoms to finally clear up.

I am interested in hearing about any bad experiences with the prednisone. My husband has been taking it for 1 year. He started on 50mg and has been trying to taper all year but in the past his disease has flared up as the dose got lower and so it was increased again. This time he has been luck and got down to 10mg and then began losing his mind. In the last couple of weeks he has had panic attacks, mood swings, brain fades (moments of complete blankness where he is unable to talk/move or anything, inability to speak, dis inhibited behaviour and peculiar behaviour where he will simply repeats words over and over. His specialist says that it's the prednisone withdrawal and this will all improve as he tapers (he is down to 5mg now). He can't work or socialise which is so sad for ou...

i was prescribed the above once a day for 5 days...for seasonal allergy...cough and congestion. Will I suffer side effects? ## Hello, Antonio! How are you? Yes, it is very likely that you will, since this is a steroid. Even with short term use for allergic reactions, I experienced body aches/pains, some fluid retention and slight blood pressure elevation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am a 30 year old female and in the beginning of March 2013 I got terribly sick with some sort of cold paired with a severe sinus infection. I was prescribed Methylprednisolone 4mg dose pack. I completed that with only minor side effects however it didn't really work and I was back at the doctor a mere week later feeling just as bad. I was then prescribed Prednisone 20mg tablets, taking 3 daily for 5 days. It helped my symptoms and I felt better. However, my last dose was Sunday 3/17/2013 and today is Wednesday 3/20/2013 and I am feeling incredibly strange. I feel weak, tired, irritable, depressed, dizzy and light-headed at times, off balance and I am getting mild headaches. I'm also moody and have a short temper. From looking online it looks like these are some of the devastat...

Will this medicine have effects on intimacy? ## I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT BEING ON PREDNISONE IF INTAMACY IS EFFECTIVED AND WHAAT IS UP WITH THE MAJOR SWINGS AND NOT FEELING LIKE YOURSELF ## Well it is a type of steroid, so it can affect your bodily hormones and cause some mood swings and etc. These side effects are not very common and if you are taking it for awhile, they will normally wear off within a few weeks. And in this same way, yes it can sometimes affect intimacy for awhile while your body is adjusting to the medication. ## It doesn't list it in the side effects but yes I did notice a bit of a change for the worse. It actually made me feel like I was on some type of muscle relaxant.

At that time I was given a daily dose of 60 mg for one month then reduced down to 30 mg, at this time I was told to continue to help reduce the inflammation , I experienced pains in my hands & knees , I also became to have problems with my sugar levels to the point at a hospital it was recorded that my sugar level was at 810 (normal levels are around 115)! I now have to take 30/70 insulin twice per day, I was never told that you can only take this Prednisone for a short time it has been now 14 yrs I have tried to come off it by reducing very slowly , but each time my reducing to 10 or even to 5mg per day creates not able to sleep, aching &am

Have been taking Prednisone 20mg pills split into 4 pieces for a bronchial infection. The pills are expired from 2010. I'm taking the taper off 6 to 1 portions per day. It doesn't seem to be taking effect, although it has worked in the past. Could it have lost it's effectiveness? ## As far as expired meds go, according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. Source: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml It's possible that it may still be effective, but my personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been 3 years old. When was the last time you tried taking it? ##...

Im an 18 year old Male, supposed to be a fun time being 18 and all….but boy has prednisolone stuffed up my last year or so. Maybe i just react worse to this drug than some people, but the way its hit me has to be lived to be believed. The irritable uncomfortable feeling (even when your trying to relax on the couch), the anger and mood swings that are constant, the weight gain and wanting to eat all the time, the insomnia which makes you feel even worse for lack of sleep, the gigantic swelling in the face to make a once normal face a horror show, the fever which is so often there, the acne all over my body, the lack of confidence I now have, the depressing way you now interact with the ones you love, and one of the worst things to go through, the looking back and remembering how go...

hi, im an asthmatic, and i am taking 20 mg prednisone twice a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, is it ok to continue taking up this medicine even though i dont have an asthma attack? ## You should only take it, if your doctor has instructed you to do so, long term use of it, according to the NIH, could result in acne, fluid retention, weight gain, and congestive heart failure. What medications do you take for your asthma?
