I have been on Warfarin for 5 yrs now for CHF and have a metal heart valve, my hair and skin have suffered tremendously, I started taking Biotin to help and it has helped my hair thicken back up a bit but the dryness is awful, very dry hair and my skin just peels and is very itchy, I have tried so many lotions and nothing seems to help, any suggestions? ## There are prescription creams available that work much better than those you can purchase over the counter, so you may want to speak to your physician about trying one of them. For your hair, some hot oil treatments may help moisturize it. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Pradaxa mostly used as a substitute for warfarin (Coumadin ) for atrial fibrillation but there are also response of tamoxifen side effects such as unusual bleeding, short breath etc. There are also some response of having dehydrated, dryness of mouth/eyes. The positive side is that It does not require regular blood tests and it actually works better in few cases. Pradaxa might be a good substitute of warfarin but need more attention in long term use and in some specific cases.

I then recouperated at home. 3 weeks ago I had a stroke. The cardiologist said it was caused by the several surgeries and the neurologist prescribed ecotrin as he felt that warfarin was not enough any longer to protect my heart valves. Since taking ecotrin I have a constant head ache, my eyes are swollen all the times, I feel very tired, I feel depressed, I some evenings have stomach ache, initially I lost weight and suddenly I am picking up weight rapidly. I experience dizziness at times and my eyes feel as if something got stuck behind them. I used to run around 48 kilometres a week before the hysterectomy. I as...

I have been taking Xarelto 15mg x2/day for almost 3 weeks and will go onto 20mg/day next week for the remainder of 3 months. I had a lower leg blood clot almost 3 wks ago. I have experienced some itching of my lower and upper legs and wonder whether it is something to worry about. I had thought that maybe the symptoms may relax when I go onto the lower dose. I chose Xeralto over Warfarin for the convenience of less blood checks and think I would prefer to remain on it. I have been unable to get through to the clinic or to speak to my doctor so will probably have to make an appointment but thought I would ask here and see if there was any advice available. I have also started with itching to one of my eyes yesterday though this may be due to a new cleanser which I have stopped using. Has...

I have been taking Apixaban for PE's for nearly 2 years now thinking that it was great as Warfarin was unreliable and had to have too many blood tests. I am 56 and have now put on a lot of weight but didn't realize that this drug can cause this. My lifestyle hasn't changed very much so I couldn't understand why I was putting on weight. Also at night when sleeping my arm on the opposite side of how I'm sleeping also goes numb and I wonder if this can have anything to do with the drug too, as well as feeling really tired all the time. Is there an alternative as I really am feeling depressed about my weight? ## I am on Apixaban and I am having a very dry mouth and have to drink water the whole night. I talked to my doctor and he says it's because of the medicine and...

Do you think Eliquis is working for me? ## Hi Lucille, Sorry to hear about your situation. If you've developed a rash and inflammation, I agree with you that those are probable signs of an allergic reaction. I was on warfarin following a cerebellar infarct and i really struggled with trying to keep my diet consistent to maintain my INR level and the side effects of warfarin got so bad I was going to stop taking it! My consultant said the risk of another strok e was too high as I have AF and he prescribed Pradaxa. Within three weeks I felt so much better. I have been taking pradaxa for over a year now and no side effects at all. Some of the side effects from warfarin took a while to clear but they have now all gone. No alopecia, the pains in my toes, which were stopping me from walking too far, have completely gone, no nausea and no more feeling like death warmed up! I know the risks associated with pradaxa but to be honest I am happy to take them as I now have a good quality of life. If I h...
