What might be the cause? ## It is hard to say, the NIH lists various health issues that could cause these symptoms, including heart disease, heart failure, and asthma. Are you on any medications? Do you have any diagnosed medical conditions? Have you consulted your doctor?

I was taken off of Xarelto and put on Eliquis 2.5mg twice daily. Everything seemed fine. Then my cardiologist increased the dose to 5 mg twice daily because she said I should be on a “regular” dose. Within a day or two, I started with shortness of breath upon the least exertion. Also, I became constiipated. I continued until I became so debilitated that I decided to lower back to the 2.5 dose. By this time, the shortness of breath had a life of its own. Anyone else have this reaction to Eliquis? ## Hi Marilynn, Sorry to hear about your reaction to the medication. Medlineplus.gov lists the following symptoms as side effects of Eliquis (Apixaban): -trouble breathing -wheezing -feeling dizzy or faint Source: medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a613032.html They go on to note that if ...

When taking Xeljanz I'm finally able to stop prednisone after 30yrs. Now I'm having shortness of breath. It's so bad I can't walk to the next room and back without sitting down so I can get my heart to stop pounding and breathing back to normal. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks for any feedback. ## Xeljanz has been known to cause trouble breathing, and high blood pressure, as side effects, either of which could causing your issues. Have you consulted your doctor? Has anyone else experienced notably increased shortness of breath attributed to Multaq? ## Multaq contains the active ingredient Dronedarone and is most commonly used to treat irregular heartbeat. The shortness of breath is listed as a serious side effect and is warned about in the patient advisory leaflets, you should contact your doctor immediately. Are there any questions or comments? ## i do experience periods of breathlessness but always search for an alternative reason ie flu or a cold. I have felt the same with most of the medication i have tried at some point in time. Do you have it constantly or occasionally? I was suprised looking at the 'Multaq' forum that hardly anyone has mentioned it as a side effect. As with the previous reply it may be best to seek advice from yo...

Since being on Vimpat, I have gotten shortness of breath (SoB), when ever I do any exercise, walking 3 blocks required a 5+ min rest I had pacemaker checked no issues with it. Dr wants me to remain on it, wants me to see Heart Dr (Have appt. within week) It seems to me that med is cause of SoB and I should be weaned off it due to existing heart issue Pacemaker. I have not had any seizures since on it, but SoB is really hard to do anything. ## Hello, Greg! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. There is actually a warning issued by the FDA regarding this medication that states if you start experiencing shortness of breath, you should stop taking it. When will you be seeing the cardiologist? Your other doctor may not be aware of the risk. Its typical sid...

My boyfriend began taking Eliquis in March for AFIB. (He is 68.) Right away he wasn't himself. He gets short of breath dozens of times a day now when he didn't before. Even going upstairs is a problem. He needs to exercise because of his peripheral arterial disease, and he can't because he becomes so short of breath. He was walking for an hour and a half at a time. He gets short of breath so often that it scares him and me. The doctor said that Eliquis can't cause this. He wouldn't take him off of it, so my boyfriend continued to struggle. About three weeks ago my boyfriend had an epic nosebleed that we had to go to the E.R. for. In treating the nosebleed, they stopped his Eliquis. Lo and behold no more shortness of breath. When he had his follow up with the cardiolo...

I have received at least four Jevtana infusions and my onconologist is letting me rest now. I have many of the side effects listed, but the most disconcerting is the shortness of breath and fatigue. I can only walk a few feet or be involved in minimal exertion and I am gasping for air. I use pursed-lip breathing which helps. I have advanced prostate cancer with bone metastases. Does anyone know when the the "shortness of breath" episodes will end after no longer infusing Jevtana over a period of months? Thank you for your response. ## Has your Oncologist given you any ideas on how long it may last? The information available in these medications is usually very limited and this one is not exception, as you can see here: ## Verwon, I saw my medical oncologist yesterday (4/11/2012)...

I’ve been on Pristiq for about a year going from 50 mg up to 100. I’ve been having issues with shortness of breath but it’s gotten much worse and I made an appt with a cardiologist after my regular dr didn’t find anything. I had gotten to where I was seriously out of breath walking from the front room if my house to the back. In the meantime, totally unrelated I have been weaning off of the pristiq because of a severe sweating problem that was no longer tolerable. I’ve realized that after being down to 50 mg, one tab every third day, my breathing issue is much, much better. Could it be the pristiq that was causing the problem and has anyone else had this issue? ## According to FDA reports, Pristiq has been known to cause trouble breathing, as a side effect,...

I had my first of 2 Injectafer infusions today. It’s only been about 12 hrs and so far the only problem I have is shortness of breath. Has anyone else experienced this? I also have bad anxiety, which can also cause shortness of breath. Don’t know if I should ride this out or go to the ER. My anti-anxiety drug (Loraxepam) doesn’t seem to be helping. Would appreciate any input. Thank you ## The typical side effects of Injectafer are listed a possibly including nausea, hypertension, flushing, and dizziness. However, it would be best to consult your doctor to be sure of what's going on, as a safety measure. Are you on any other medications, or just this and the Lorazepam? ## According to Medline Plus, it says that trouble breathing (shortness of breath) could be a more...

I've been on Effexor for 11-12yrs for anxiety & myoclonus til less than 1 week ago I changed to pristiq, due to the horrible disabling side effects of Effexor (for 3 wks) if I miss 1 tablet. Pristiq has the same metaboliser as Effexor but diff main ingredient. So I had no noticeable side effects jumping from Effexor to pristiq except shortness of breath and tight chest. Which mind you is not nice. And documents state I should tell my doc straight away. Well it's Easter weekend and he's not in so I'm just hanging on til tomorrow, til he's in again. I hope I just live with all the other stuff like the constant over sweating, no Lobido, constipation.

After applying Efudex to the scalp after a shower I experienced shortness of breath at about 3.00am in the morning. This is not recommended - I should apply it mid to late afternoon. I have had no further effects since doing this. Has anyone else experienced this? My doctor said I may be allergic to Efudex. I hope not. ## Hello Ern, Your doctor is absolutely right, nowhere on the efudex website or the NIH/FDA warnings does it say that shortness of breath is a common effect of administering this medication. It sounds very much like you are allergic to this medication and I strongly suggest that you have your doctor run some tests to verify if you are safe to administer this medication. It would be tragic to have your throat completely close up because you were administering this medicati...

Anyone else have this problem? ## HI...Yes. I was on Losartan for a long time and it gave me these symptoms also. Many symptoms. You can search side effects/Losartan from several sites. I took them down from every site. Losartan damaged my kidneys, however it stopped when I got off. It gave me severe edema and throat congestion, nasal congestion, insomnia, pneumonia and ruined my gut causing food senstivities. My Dr. also didn't believe me and I told him I wouldn't take it. I have been taking Brilinta for since the last week in April, the normal 2 times daily tablets. I have developed a severe case of shortness of breath. I can't even do simple tasks anymore. I did not realize this was one of the side effects of the medication until yesterday. My daughter, has been very concerned over my condition, and we got to discussing what changes could have taken place since my last stents were put in. I have five in all, three put in the last weeks of April. I have also had heart bypass surgery. The only think that I could think of was the switch from Plavix to Brilinta, well that and the three new stents. I have also had some chest discomfort, I had just chalked it up to angina at first, but it seems to be getting worse than better. Is there another drug they c...

I am on 25 mg of Metoprolol divided in half morning and evening. I don't have high blood pressure, yet I'm always very short of breath. I don't want to take them anymore. ## This is a blood pressure medication. Why are you taking it? ## It is a very small dose if I understand what you are saying. You take 25mg in total per day, divided into 12.5mg in the morning and night? It is unclear as to the reason you are taking them for as you have not provided enough detail as to your condition. They may be to control high blood pressure, angina, abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations..quite a large list. If you do not want to continue taking them, discuss this with your doctor. Don't just stop taking medicine, ask him to explain why you are being prescribed them. ## i had heart st...

It's weird what meds can do and when I can't breath it's soooo scary!! ## While there is a chance that it could be a medication side effect, from taking Irbesartan, according to FDA reports, which lists them as also possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination, there is also a chance that it might be due to other issues. I heard people gain weight but I keep losing weight yet my numbers are level. Can Losartan cause shortness of breath? I take 100 mg. and cut today's dosage to 50 mg. Can I taper that way? ## In this case, it is very important that you consult your doctor as soon as possible. If you are taking such a medication for high blood pressure or a cardiac condition, there are quite a few issues, other than just the medication, that could be causing the shortness of breath and some of them, such as congestive heart failure, may be life threatening. Learn more Losartan details here. And if you been taking it for those reasons, it is not safe to just stop taking it and not be taking anything, even if you taper off, since such conditions will just revert to being uncontrolled.
