how long does it last? ## Even when there is no rash, the pain of shingles may be apparent. Before a rash is visible, the patient may notice several days to a week of burning pain and sensitive skin. When the characteristic rash is not yet apparent, it may be difficult to determine the cause of the often severe pain. Shingles rash starts as small blisters on a red base, with new blisters continuing to form for three to five days. The duration of the outbreak may take three to four weeks from start to finish. On occasion, the pain will be present but the blisters may never appear. This can be a very confusing cause of local pain. Ever since I took the shingles shot I've had mild shingles and it has also, I believe, did more damage to my liver. I was diagnosed with Hep C in 1995, and took the Interferon, but in one year it has advanced to cirrhosis. I feel the shingles shot may have caused this! Has anyone else had any problems? ## It can cause a rash that is considered to be like Shingles, but isn't actually Shingles, as well as administration site irritation, redness and dizziness. However, it has not been listed to cause any liver issues, according to the FDA. Are you on any other medications? What does your doctor think may have caused it? ## Naturally the Doc says the shingles shot isn't to blame for anything! Strangely though, I have now developed genital herpes, which I have never had, and I...

I DISCOVERED LAST NIGHT I HAVE SHINGLES OUTBREAK JUST ON THE RIGHT SIDE FROM NEXT TO MY NAVEL UP UNTIL MY MIDDLE BUT LUCKILY NOT STILL NOT AROUND MY BACK WILL PURBAC 500MG HELP? ACNE STARTED COMING ON AND I AM 54 NOW WILL IT HELP TO CLEAR IT UP? ## Hello, Rissa! How are you? No, an antibiotic will not help with Shingles, since that is caused by a virus. What have you tried for the acne? If it's due to hormonal fluctuations, which are very common at your age, an antibiotic likely won't help it, either. What has your doctor advised you to use?

IF ONE NEVER HAD CHICKEN POX ARE THEY APT TO GET SHINGLES ## No, it is a later manifestation of Varicella Zoster, which is a form of the herpes virus and causes Chicken Pox. You have to have had one in order to develop the other, as reported by the NIH. The issue is that not everyone may have the severe symptoms of chicken pox that many experience, so just like being infected with the herpes simplex that causes cold sores, they may not have known they ever had it and could be surprised to develop Shingles later in life. I was just explaining to someone else the other day that by the time they are elderly, over 85% of the population is infected with the Herpes Simplex that causes cold sores, but only a small percentage ever develop cold sores. The ones who do get them, when infected, hav...

My friend had got bitten by a non posionious spider and for 4 years every month she has blisters to come up from where she got bit. The dr. says the spider bit her in a nerve and it has caused nuarotic pain like shingles. Has anyone ever heard of this, and what kind of meds would get rid of this? She said the pain is severe, and the skin very sore to the touch. ## If someone is infected with a herpes simplex virus, which is not the same as genital herpes, it is known to sometimes lie dormant in nerve cells and then act up due to some types of trauma. There is no cure for it, but certain medications can help limit the amount of flare ups or shorten their duration. You can learn more here: Are there any other questions? ## thank you for the information. this is probably something she will h...

I hade shingles in the right eye four years ago and still have pain in the right side of my face and right side of my head will aspergel help this ## Hello, Alice! How are you? Have you consulted your doctor? It might be due to some nerve damage, and if that is the case, the Aspergel may not be strong enough to help. The FDA lists its typical side effects as including skin redness, irritation and rash. Are you on any other medications?

Been on Enbrel about 3 months I have an over active immune system which causes multiple issues like psoriatic arthritis and all that goes with that along with deformed joints, psoriatic skin eruptions, IBS etc. As my immune system was lowered much of the pain and stiffness, skin eruptions and IBS slowly disappeared. I was getting excited about feeling better when out of the blue I started feeling a tingling and itching in my back, then the pain came as I realized I was having a shingles attack! I immediately went to my PC and he put me on an antiviral drug. I’m about three weeks into my shingles attack now. The antiviral drug seems to have stopped the progression of the shingles and so far it has not erupted in to open sores. The pain and itching remains but I’m thankful tha...

Xaretto as a blood thinner reduces vitamin k which is needed to suppress the dormant virus from coming out of the body If you have a rash and its burning with lower back pain, you also might have shingles ***Shingles is very very painful ## That is not a side effect listed in the FDA reports, but it has been known to cause a skin rash, skin blisters, allergic dermatitis, and hives. Hi i just want to find out... My mother has shingles and they said she must use epinutem but they dont have any in stock..can she use epitec or epilum? ## The Epanutin contains Phenytoin, and it is given in such cases to help with the nerve pain that Shingles can cause. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes, headache, and mood changes. As to an alternative, she should consult her doctor to see what is safest for her to take. I have nerve pain from shingles, what is the best compounded topical cream too use. ## Hello, Roger! How are you? I really can't say, compounded creams require a prescription from your doctor and are prescribed according to what they know works best according to their experience with other patients. Thus, there is no set ingredient list. It can vary from doctor to doctor. However, many people with this issue benefit from something that specifically treats nerve pain, such as Gabapentin, either topically or orally. It is an anticonvulsant that also treats some forms of nerve pain and mood disorders. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, to the oral form may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, mood swings, dry mouth and weight gain. What has your doctor advised you to use? ##...

I have been free of shingles blisters on my R head/eye since November 1st. For pain relief I am currently taking up to 3.6GM Gabopentin tabs daily, Acetaminophen/Codeine #4 300/60 MG tabs 2-3 tabs daily as needed, Amitriptyline 50MG (presc 1/2 tablet before bed, working up to 1 tablet), I can take 1/4 tablet before bed once a week, but I don't like it, makes me too weird, strange dreams. I have had shingles for more than a month. I went to urgent care three times already. All my doctors are on vacation now and they don't have a doctor to see me. I am in excruciating pain. First visit in urgent care they gave me Naproxen 375 mg, Valacyclovir 1 GM and Methocarbamol 500 mg at the same time. Along with Shingles I have cracked ribs too. For 10 days (this was the prescription length) I keep in control with baths with baking soda to calm down the pain and burning feeling. After that I was worse than ever. My next trip to urgent care, they prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg 3 times a day, upon following up with my doctor. They gave me a lot tests, cause of an unusual pain (like somebody stabbing a knife in my belly), the Shingles blisters was very severe. It was around my waist l...

I have been on Enbrel for several years and wanted to know if anyone in this group has taken the new shingles vaccine Shingrix? If so what was your response? A nurse at Amgen, the maker of Enbrel said she couldn't advise about taking Shingrix while on Enbrel. The Shingrix literature says those on Immune suppressors would get a lesser shingles protective response. Shingrix is not a live vaccine and I think that is the only thing prohibited while on Enbrel. Thanks for your help. ## Hello Mark, I took a look at the manufacturers page and like you previously stated it says that you should not take any live vaccines while on the medication, however, right above that line it states that you should take all vaccines prior to starting this medication. I believe that because they went out of...

I have been prescribed oxycodone 5 mg. IMM REL capsules to be taken 2-3 every 4 hrs. for shingles pain. I have never taken this before, however I have chronic pain due to a right hip injury 6 years ago and normally take fiorinal #3 for that and also migraine headaches. I am in a'lot of pain and I am praying this med. will help. I was also prescribed lyrica 75 mg, Valtrex and I already take lexapro and zanax if needed. I am very cautious with medicine. Does anyone have any advice for me? ## Oxycodone is a very potent narcotic pain reliever, it is also highly addictive. The IMM REL stands for Immediate Release, which means the medication is released immediately to start helping with your pain, rather than taking 15 to 20 minutes like regular release tablets.
