Shingles Vaccine

I have been on Enbrel for several years and wanted to know if anyone in this group has taken the new shingles vaccine Shingrix? If so what was your response? A nurse at Amgen, the maker of Enbrel said she couldn't advise about taking Shingrix while on Enbrel. The Shingrix literature says those on Immune suppressors would get a lesser shingles protective response. Shingrix is not a live vaccine and I think that is the only thing prohibited while on Enbrel. I would like to know about this vaccine. ## This is an immunization used to prevent herpes zoster. (Shingles) ## I just had the Zostavax vaccination this afternoon. My doctor and I thought it was advisable since I was exposed to a friend who just came down with shingles and I had chicken pox as a child. Anything I should look out for? Thanks, Brooke

HERPES ZOSTER VACCINE ## I have had Herpes Simplex which should effect my mouth. My Igm titer which should be less than 20 is 785. I get Herpes everywhere and on both sides of my body. Immunologist looked at my outbreak and after bloodwork for EVERYTHING she said I had Herpes in my DNA. First outbreak, 1975 as appendix burst. Since then, I'm 65 now, I get outbreaks every other month and before it comes the lymp nodes in the area it will be in swell, giving me a sign . I cannot have any prednisone or cortisone as she said it would really blow up my already painful shingles. And once you have a few outbreaks the vaccine is not recommended. I have been taking neurontin for 6 months as a result of shingles I had in May. I am taking 600 MG per day. Is it safe to get a flu shot? ## Is it safe to get a flu shot while taking 2100 mg. of neurontin a day? ## There are no issues that I am aware of, but you should always double check with the person administering the flu shot to be sure. It is always best to make sure they know all medications that you are currently taking. The FDA warns that the flu shot may cause soreness, redness, and swelling at the site of administration. Thus, it is best to rub it for the day, or two, to help prevent unabsorbed vaccine from building up in a bolus under the skin. Has anyone else been on this medication and had their flu shot?
