I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Herniated l5s1 and holy f word it hurts. They are giving me lyrica on day two and feel like a 70 year old drunk. I had a ct scan but was denied the mri doc thinks I'll be fine. What I don't understand is why I'm taking nerve medicine but he thinks I'll be able to re set the disc and be fine. Why not some muscle relaxers and nsaids....I lay in pain hoping this stupid drug works in a week to 10 days. Thanks for letting me rant. ## Lyrica is actually not a nerve medication, so to speak. It is classified by the U.S. FDA as an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain, and some mood disorders. It usually takes about 4 to 5 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, to see if it is ...

I am 71 and for the past 6 months been in pain management for herniated discs lower back. I recently stopped the lowest doses of oxycodone/acetaminophen and morphine er. Did not help pain. Dr and I have just about exhausted trying many pain meds. Yesterday he prescribed 10mg methadone. I cut them in half. This morning I took 10mg. Wish I had not done that. I could deal with the little upset stomach but the dizziness lasted almost 9 hours..terrible. I will take 5mg once or twice a day thru weekend but pain level still at a 9. So if I still have pain by Mon will call dr and stop med. What scares me is he said prednazone would be next. I have read that this med has some really nasty side effects. I'm stretching daily and really don't want to take any of this stuff. Thinking about p...

My doctor gave me a sample pack and a prescription for metanx because he thought it could help me nerve pain. But he said there were no side effects. Do you think this will be helpful? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? The FDA classifies Metanx as a medical food, it contains nutrients that are believed to help support nerve health and minimize nerve pain. Thus, there are no commonly known side effects for it, other than possibly nausea, since it is rather potent. Have you tried it, yet? ## I can check. Thanks so much. There has to be something. ## I have not.. Thanks so much. Tried a lot of meds. Trying to get away from opoids. ## METANX definitely works for sciatica! We get samples of it where I work and nothing helps when I get sciatica. I tried the Metanx and 2 hours later, the burning, p...

Please explain sciatica to me. My husband has severe pain in his leg from hip button joint down his R leg. Never had it this bad before will the bone Dr treat this with meds before taking a MRI??? Will he be able to take MRI since he has a pacemaker also. Thanks for your info. Eugene ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Sciatica is a group of symptoms usually involving pain and stiffness that result in compression of the sciatic nerve. It can be due to aging, a medical condition or injury. It can travel both legs, or just one, depending on the severity, as explained by the NIH. How it's treated is entirely up to the doctor. If he has a traditional pace maker that has metal parts, then no, he cannot have an MRI. However, they can do regular x-rays and CT scans. Is there anything else I can...

Is artridol good for sciatica! ## Hello, Hutts! How are you? Artridol should not be taken, without your doctor's approval. It contains Indomethacin (a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) and Betamethasone (a steroid class medication.) Thus, there can be some risks associated with taking it, which as listed by the FDA, may include increased risk of bleeding, elevated heart rate, elevated blood pressure, fluid retention and heart failure. So, it may be contraindicated with some medical conditions and some other medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

I haveve Sciatica pains for that reason I am taking 1 pill 5/325 a day , for 18 months Due know my Dr is out of town ,and I do not have any more vicodin, but a I have some leftovers of tramadol hcl50 mg , How much will be of tramadol to equal my vicodin prescription ,and all so if I will have side effects for the change ## Hello, Ed! How are you? According to the conversion charts provided by GlobalRPh, one 50mg Tramadol is equal to one 5.325 Norco/Vicodin. Though, you shouldn't take the Tramadol, unless your doctor approves. Tramadol is a very mild opiate. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I've been taking oxycodone 5 and tramadol 50 alternately for very many years, every three to four hours recent years. I'm getting too miserable and too dysfunctional lately, so tried oxymorphone 10er instead (as prescribed) but it actually made the sciatica pain even much worse (due in part to the extreme constipating effect), so had to quit that. Morphine and demerol never worked on pain for me either, having lesser but similar bad effects. I'm back to the oxycodone and tramadol for what little help they can provide. Age 65, average build, trying to stay active. Need ideas for better pain management. ## First I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I also have nerve pain and I can completely relate. Second, has your doctor ever recommend pain patches for constant p...

I have been on Mobic, but the pain does not go away. I had an epidural, but pain still there. It seems the Mobic and the epidural are not sufficient. I will be getting another epidural in two weeks, but it has been a depressing 6 weeks of pain and immobility. Has anyone had this experience --- what else can I do? This has been torture. Any suggestions will be very helpful to me. ## I have two degenerated discs and spinal stenosis. As a result I am having Sciatica pain running down my leg. Hope this explains my previous thread. Thank you. ## Mobic contains the active ingredient Meloxicam, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, used to treat pain and swelling. Have you consulted your doctor? I am 58 yrs. old man & is suffering from Sciatic. After 3weeks time my orthopdic -doctor has advised me to have a "nurokind plus" capsule once in a day. So Now I just want to know that what kind of effect / relief will give this Nuroplus capsule in my pain. ## This is a nutritional supplement that contains a complex of B vitamins that are known to support nerve health and function. There is no harm in taking it regularly to see if it helps, unless your doctor tells you not to do so. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effect as possibly including nausea, due to its potency. I have bilateral sciatica. It is caused by Stenosis of the spine, and I am in a lot of pain. I need an operation to remove it, and I have been to many hospitals in the area, but no-one wants to do it. This is because I have Ischaemic heart disease, and my heart stopped when my local hospital tried to operate. I have been on morphgesic 20mg twice a day. I think it is useless when I am have just taken it, but when it wears off I am in intense pain. I take Gabapentin (900mg 3 times daily), and Amitriptyline 75mg at night and Oramorph when the pain becomes too much to bear. What can I do? ## Since no-one seems to know what I should do, I will add a few more diseases: I have had 4 MI, 3 after CABG, and the last one was 20 years ago. My heart is basically a mess, and the problem is caused by ...

Hi. I'm looking for advice or personal experience. For close to 10yrs I've been suffering from pelvic inflammatory disease, severe sciatica and Degenerative disc disc, hip & knee problems. I've recently been referred to pain management. I have never been on pain meds, except for times when I had surgery. I'm really skeptical about the inj's. & how I will feel after getting them done. I'm a 24/7 caretaker to my 72yr old father, I do just about everything for him & he can't be left alone for longer than an hour. Im an only child, my mother isn't around either. I am also a single mom to a child w/severe bowel issues and ADHD, she is 5yrs old. I am busy 100% of my day, laying down and resting is never an option. I don't have anyone to come ...

Can taking methamphetamine cause a sudden acute attack of painful sciatica and degenerative disc disease? I was fine when I went to bed but woke up with it and could not walk and was crippled with unbearable pain that's continued for a month and is still going on. Dr. prescribed neurontin which doesn't help at all. Help with medication suggestions please! ## I'm very sorry to hear about your debilitating side effects. From what I've been reading online, many of the symptoms associated with Methamphetamine use are often considered to be sudden and in some cases severe. This drug literally destroys from the inside out (lowering your body's immunity/resistance to illness in general); so I wouldn't say it's not possible to become crippled on methamphetamine, even...

I have very bad sciatica on my right leg, I past. 6 month I had 3 epidural shots. the last one was 9 days ago, I am having discomfort and pressure on my right calf with some tingling on my foot also, will this go away? ## Hello, Michael! How are you? I'ms sorry about the problem that you're having. Are you on any other medications? Discomfort and pressure like that could be the sign of blood clot, so rather than leave it go and attribute it to the epidural, I strongly urge you to see your doctor and have it checked out, for your own safety. Did you have any side effects from the others?

Hi. I get severe migraines during the rainy season ( I know, Seattle? Basically ALL the time...) I also have sciatica and it has become much more painful since having my twins. I am desperate for some relief. Thanks! ## Hello, Twinmomma! How are you doing? Sorry about the pain you're in and congratulations on the twins! As to a doctor for pain medications, due to the new regulations that were put in place this year, if you require them on a long-term, ongoing basis, then you'll need to see a pain management specialist. General practitioners and surgeons have been severely restricted on what they can prescribed, how much they can prescribe, why they can prescribe it and how long they can prescribe it. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you somewhere? That would be the e...
