Please tell about basic use of feropenam ## Hello, Kamlesh! How are you? The FDA classifies it as a beta-lactam antibiotic. It is not, however, approved in the U.S., yet. The FDA declined approval, though they didn't provide specific reasons on why they did so. The clinical uses lists are for acute bacterial sinusitis, community acquired pneumonia, acute execrations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin and structure infections, plus urinary tract infections. Has this been prescribed for you?

I'm diabetic, have hypertension, CHF, & early renal failure. Doctor subjected me to arteriogram yesterday for spells of short of breath & angina, but balked at doing ANYTHING (no angioplasty, stents-nothing, for 7 vessels blocked at least 90% because my kidneys were having issues according to labwork. But he gave my husband samples & scrip for Ranexa, said start taking it & in 2 weeks I'll feel better. I'm reading the patient booklet and the prescriber info and ALL over both is listed kidney failure & renal failure. If kidney failure & avoiding dyalisis was the reason we did nothing to FIX my problem, why give me a drug that CAUSES kidney failure? How many people got kidney failure from taking Ranexa? Thanks! ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? It isn't ...

Since 50% of the excretion is by the liver - I would think this is the ideal contrast for any patient with renal compromise. I know there is currently a clinical trial for this. however as in all cases the science and the prelimiary data seems so promising that I think this needs to be considered for the renal impaired patients. There are many patients who need contrast who have renal failure. The fact that this cojntrast is already 1/4 dose regular contrast and you could use this 1/2 dose at 3T for renal impaired patients would for me be perfectly acceptable if this finds the small liver met or small brain met which could not be detected otherwise. Benefits vs risks are what we balance every day. I am happy to hear your comments on this.

I was given Toradol and went into renal failure. Has anyone heard of that? ## Yikes! I was researching Toradol because I've had some minor renal issues since my arm fracture and surgery. (I was also taking lots of ibuprofen before and after the surgery, so the Toradol may have just been the straw that broke the camel's back). Kidney failure IS one of the potential side effects of NSAID use, but dunno how common it is for short term administration of Toradol. ## It really depends on how the individual's body processes the drugs. Some people can take a drug for a long time, with no ill effects and others can suffer hepatic or renal failure after just a short time. Usually, there are other factors involved, such as past drugs used that have had ill effects on the renal or hepat...

Oct 2006 I was given Toridol for pain and went into renal failure also. I was 82 and I've since been told by a medical person that older people should NEVER be given that drug. I became very cold and rang for a nurse and asked for a warm blanket and then I passed out and they pumped fluids through me as fast as they could which brought me out of it. It was several hours before I came to again I am a diabetic also and now am seeing a kidney specialist. ## Marjorie, I am very sorry to hear about what you have experienced. Toradol is a very strong anti-inflammatory and yes, doctors do have to be cautious who they give it too. However, if you did not previously have any kidney problems and weren't taking NSAIDS long-term, prior to this, then they had no real warning regarding what m...

Our 13 year old Maine Coon mix is in the last stages of renal failure. We didn't know anything was wrong until about a month ago when she stopped eating. It's been up and down ever since her diagnosis. Our vet prescribed Mirtazapine but, after reading the many negative comments, we put off giving it to her as long as we could. We finally had to because the effects of not eating in cats are liver shutdown and death. She's had no serious adverse reaction to Mirtazapine, and it has definitely helped her appetite. It is buying her a little more quality time with us. I certainly wouldn't use or give this drug lightly, but as some posters have noted, in the end it's a risk v.s benefit judgment call. ## I am very sorry to read of what you are going through. I am not very kn...

i am suffering with fibromyagia and now with renal failure my doctor is refusing ro prescribe fentanyl some doctors will perscribe it but i can not keep going to a new doctor evry week to find out. my needs are urgent and i should be on dialasis. does the doctor need to be on some special program ? ## Hello, Bob! How are you? I am very sorry about what you're going through. Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, such a medication can now only be prescribed by a pain management specialist. A regular PCP can't prescribe it. Additionally, if you're asking for such a medication, most doctors are going to see that as being drug seeking behavior and are going to refuse to prescribe it. It is the most potent narcotic available, so many doctors are not going to...

Prilosec literally saved my life. I have two kinds of kidney disease, both types of renal failure. They had me on 60mg of prednisone, 3 times a day. Lipitor, Lasix, hyroclorothiazide, and a whole slew of blood thinners. And I couldn't keep any of it down. I was dying at age 15. My parents were terrified. We bought a packet of Prilosec thinking "What have we got to loose?" I stopped throwing up. I kept a little food down. As soon as I started keeping it down, my skin got brighter. My eyes weren't fogged over. By day two, my medicine started working. By day three I had started to lose all the water. I peed out 80lbs of water in a week, by urine was trace for protein, and I started building up muscle mass. I am now 20 years old. I still need a kidney, and the hospitals pret...

I had been prescribed and taken Lithium for appx. 28 yrs. In 2006 I went toxic, went into renal failure and was in a coma for about 30 days at Memorial Hosp. in Las Cruces, NM. I was diagnosed as being in renal failure from that time to present. In 2006 I had been prescribed Renagel by nephrologists at VAMC in Albuquerque, NM. In July of 2007 a clinical pharmacist at a state run nursing home discontinued the Renagel without my knowledge or consent. Approximately 30 - 35 days later both my feet and ankles were swollen excessively, bright red and the redness continued up my legs. The pain was unbearable and I could not walk due to the edema. My blood pressure was 200/160 and escalating. My question is were my symptoms caused by being discontinued from the Renagel? ## Since we have no medi...

My wife has been taking Multaq for 9 months. In January, she was hospitalized with renal failure and treated with IV's. Multaq was suspended upon admission. Her kidney functions returned to normal after four days at which time she was discharged. Multaq was again started. Several days later, she began to have problems again which were confirmed to be the return of renal failure.
