I have been taking zopiclone for insomia for two years and now it is not doing anything for me. I have started to stay awake all night and fall asleep around 7 am and sleep all day. I have just heard that it is possible to have a rebound effect if you take if for a long period of time. So now I have to get off it and I do not know what to take to change my sleeping pattern. Any suggestions. ## A rebound effect occurs from stopping a medication abruptly, what you are most likely dealing with is tolerance. This can happen if just due to the fact that you're taking the same medication, in the same dosage for a long period of time and your body has gotten used to it. You should consult your doctor, as you may need to switch to a different dosage, or a different medication. Is there anyt...

I want to quit warfarin due to potential and actual bleeding . Had a two day nose bleed and still going. I was given warfarin because of afib. since then ( 9 months ) i have controlled my afib pretty well. I will see my doctor soon to get his input but wondering if I will experience any rebound or withdrawal effect ? I am also on lisinopril and Amdolopine will it affect these meds if and when I quit warfarin.. ## There can be a slight rebound if you suddenly stop taking any medication, including Warfarin, which is why it's very important to never stop taking something, without your doctor's approval and supervision. It likely should not affect your other medications. You can read more about this medication on MedlinePlus. What have you done for the nosebleed? Did you go to the E...

Have been struggling to taper off Clonidine since mid Feb. Was on 0.2mg transdermal patch for 5 wks; switched to 0.1mg patch for 10 days. Had 5 withdrawal rebound attacks in that time, the first time when I stopped cold turkey, a couple times when the patch would lose its potency from peeling off, and then when I dropped from 0.2mg to 0.1mg. In each case, BP spiked between 160/95 to 180/100 and had anxiety, tremor tachycardia. I can always tell when my BP is elevated by the surge in anxiety and HR. Doc prescribed Verapamil 80mg TID to help manage the rebound which I soon after stopped, as it didn't help with the rebounds; later added Lisinopril 10mg to no avail, but am still on it. I now am trying to manage weaning off using Clonidine 0.025mg caps I had compounded and still reboundi...

after stopping meds omeprazole 20mg twice a day which i took for 45 days, i suffered from acid rebound, severe burning sensation in stomach i never felt before after i was told by a gastroent to stop taking meds. he put me on mucosta 3x a day for 7 days and asked me to come back if symptoms still there. is mucosta safe to take 2wks and wont cause any complications? ## Why were you taking the Omeprazole? If it was to treat a specific condition, such as an ulcer or GERD, then 45 days is a really short time to be on it, most of these medications are used for at least 3 to 4 months. Did he say why he wanted you to stop taking it? Acid rebound is always possible, when you stop using these types of medications abruptly. The Rebamipide is an amino acid derivative, that is used to mucosal prote...

I took Invokana (100mg) for 1 year and have now stopped. My FBS is now over 240, where it had been 150-160 in the past year or so (without Invokana). My readings are above 200 all day, regardless of my food intake. I take 1g of Metformin twice a day and 10mg Glipizide twice a day and still have these numbers. I'm concerned that the Invokana use over the past year has biased my system to be strongly diabetic whereas before it was much less so. I realize it's been a year and my condition could have changed while taking the Invokana but there seems to be a rebound effect. Has anyone experienced a blood sugar rebound effect after stopping Invokana? Thanks. ## Why did you stop the Invokana? The FDA does warn that it can be normal to have rebound issues, when you stop such a medicatio...

Been on otc decongestants for more years than l can remember. I have 3rd stage COPD and need all the help l can get. At witts end. Thank you for your responses ## Hi hart, This is a random question, but do you eat a lot of dairy products? If so, it could be contributing to the congestion and COPD; mainly because dairy is mucus forming and acidic to our body. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Because doctors and pharmacists only offer "treatment" options as opposed to curative ones, I'd also suggest consuming a lot more fruits and vegetables in your diet. This should help allieviate the symptoms associated with COPD, including any congestion. Eating this way is a lifestyle change however, so it's not something you can just do for a couple weeks and expect all you...

I had been on 200 mg of Tofranil PM for 30 years. I was tapered off completely in mid-January 2017. Am now experiencing body pain mainly in my stomach and back area. Feels like electrical shocks, and is constant. Could this be a rebound effect and should I be put on a more modern (less side effects) Tricyclic Antidepressant? ## How long has it been since you stopped taking it? Has there been any change in your symptoms, yet? It would be best to consult your doctor, since these issues could be caused by something unrelated to the Tofranil. According to FDA warnings it has been known to cause rebound pain, rebound depression, and headaches, but those usually occur if someone stops taking it cold turkey, rather than tapering off of it. Are you on any other medications?

Hello, I've been taking generic Ambien, Zolpidem, 10 mg. each night sometimes 20 mg once in awhile when one tablet did not work (I am going through menopause, my hormone fluctuates) for a month. How do I taper the med. safely so I do not get insomnia rebound? thanks. Michelle ## HUSBANDS DR SAID CUT PILL IN HALF AND TAKE 1/2 DOSE FOR 1 WEEK OR SO, THEN D/C. HE DIDNT TRUST IT, BUT IT WORKED. ## this site is not medical professionals, so you should consult with your doctor. Suz's advice is probably the most practical solution, however. There are quite a few reports online that say it can cause withdrawal effects if you suddenly stop taking it, even after just a few weeks, so you do need to be careful. If you experience them, contact your doctor immediately. They can include: nause...

Could I be rebounding from Gabapentin withdrawal or fibro pain getting worse? I was prescribed Lyrica because the pain has just gotten worse and worse with Gabapentin, and am now tapering off of Gabapentin. I've been on it 22 months. Was up to 2400 mg last fall, but the first of this year I tapered down to 1800 and have been at 1500 to 1800 a day since. My doctor told me to taper 300 mg every 2 days. I think that is probably too fast. I am now down to 900 (as of last night). My pain is even worse and I wonder if part of the pain is rebound effect. A few days before I saw my doctor my pain suddenly got much worse. But now it is even worse yet. I have gone from taking usual dose of 2 Vicodin 5/500 a day to taking 2 Vicodin at a time to get any relief at all. And still the relief is ab...

are there any withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking this medication? ## There are rebound symptoms and they can cause some serious problems, so it isn't advisable to just stop taking it abruptly, without your doctor's approval and supervision. These rebound symptoms could result in sudden and severe elevations in blood pressure and heart rate, which has been known to cause heart attack and stroke. Learn more Amlodipine details here. Learn more Benazepril details here. Has your doctor instructed you to stop taking it? ## Yes. But he did not say anything about just cutting back slowly.

I initially took Klonopin for panic attacks, now I feel like if I stop taking it, i am getting a rebound effect, and getting horrible panic attacks...help ## Hi, Billy! Sorry about the problems that you're having. Yes, this medication can cause withdrawal and rebound symptoms if you stop taking it abruptly. That can also create the risk of seizures, so you do need to be careful. Learn more Klonopin details here. Normally, they must be stopped via a very slow taper and the modern preferred method seems to be to have the patient start skipping days they take it. Have you consulted your doctor? Is Omeprazole stronger than Dexilant 30mg? If I switch from Omeprazole 40mg to Dexilant 30mg will I have rebound acid? Is anyone PPI better for Ulcer healing than the other? ## Hello, Tdog! How are you? No, they all work the same, it's really just a matter of which one works for you. These dosages are actually equivalent. And no again, since they work the same way to treat the same conditions, you shouldn't have any rebound acidity. Can pregabalin help with opiate withdrawal? ## Hello, Cris! How are you? Yes, some doctors have been using it to alleviate the rebound pain, depression and mood swings that can occur with opiate withdrawal, but you should only use it, if your doctor has instructed you to do so. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Pregabalin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. how to wean off of Divalproex. What to do and expect? ## It should usually be tapered slowly, because stopping too fast can cause rebound effects, which may include mania, depression and seizures. Are there any doctors in East Texas that aren't afraid to prescribe Stadol NS 3-4 bottles per month for Migraine rescue therapy. Many cite rebound. I've never had a problem with that. Other's say they are limited by the new laws, however I've learned this is not true. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am getting Botox treatments to reduce the number of headaches, and am on Imitrex (which works if I catch the migraine early enough), and Topomax. ## No, there are new regulations that restrict what general practitioners and surgeons can prescribe, why they can prescribe it, how long they can prescribe it and how much they can prescribe.
