Has anyone had the experience of PSA score appearing to rise some after TESTOPEL implants being done? Three (3) months after my implants -- when it is time to do again -- my PSA is elevated, making it in the 4.77 range. I go on an antibiotic (either Duricef or CIPRO) and it comes down. My urologist is very much my advocate and knows the great many benefits I receive from this procedure. He is thinking of ANOTHER prostate biopsy, but no definite decision has been made. Although not unbearable, I'd rather not have to do this. Thoughts, anyone ???? ## Hello, Bob! How are you? There have been some concerns about the effect of testosterone supplementation on the prostate, including an elevated risk of cancer, but nothing definitive has been proven, yet. Some doctors are refusing to let t...

I have used Axiron for 2 years now. T levels are in the 500-600 level on each test. My concern is around my PSA level increasing. In two years it has gone from 1.4 to 2.3....slowly increasing on each test. I am a 63 yr old male. I am concerned about the potential of the T to ignite prostate cancer if there is any in the prostate. Any feedback on this that might be helpful? ## Hello, Bill! How are you? Using Axiron does increase the risk of prostate cancer, which is why your levels are checked regularly, while you're on it. However, your numbers aren't high and some fluctuations can be normal, sometimes it will even vary if your doctor used a different lab from one test to the other. This medication is also reported as being known to cause slight elevations, while a man is under ...

I am having difficulty completely emptying my bladder. My ultrasound report indicates insufficient residue. My PSA level is 5.24 ng/ml and my prostate weight is 35.1 grams. I've been advised to take Flotral D once daily for up to a month. Is this the right medication? How long will I have to continue this treatment?

My friend has a PSA of 125 and elevated lipase. What besides cancer can cause such a high PSA and high lipase? ## Hello, Beth! How is your friend doing? Yes, neither necessarily signifies pancreatic cancer, according to the NIH. There are other possibilities, such as prostate infections and BPH. Has his doctor recommended any other testing or prescribed any medications?

My brother was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and later had prostatectomy followed by rounds of chemotherapy. He was later prescribed abiraterone which he has been taking for 5 months up until August. His PSA doesn't seem to be going down since 5 months he's been on it. The PSA was checked on Wednesday September 29th and the result is at 38. Do you think Casodex alone or with Lupron will work better than Abiraterone at getting his PSA down? Thanks ## It’s my understanding that Casodex and lupron should be taken together to get the best results. You can access many instructive and very optimistic videos from the Prostate Cancer Research Institute on YouTube regarding treatment options for stage 4 prostate cancer. Good luck! ## Thanks for your input. ## I was told by...

How long after Xtandi has reduced PSA levels to zero or almost zero does it take for PSA levels to start to rise and I will have to find another step in treatment? ## Hi Marlee, I'll be honest, I don't know anything about PSA levels or what that stands for medically, BUT, looking at the estimated half life of Xtandi (enzalutamide) you can get a really good idea of how long it will be working in your body since your last dose. According to The University of Utah, the mean half life of Xtandi is 5.8 days with a broad range of anywhere between 2.8 – 10.2 days. So if Xtandi reduced your PSA levels shortly after ingestion, it will take about 5 days for half of that dose to be eliminated from your body; and then another 5 days for half of that remaining half to be eliminated, an...

My husband is 90 and has been taking Urimax 0.4mg. His psa is 3.31mg... The doctor says he can switch to Veltam-F for 30 days... His hands and legs have been shaky & unsteady for the past two days since he started on Veltam... Is this a side effect of Veltam? ## He should follow his doctor's instructions regarding which medication to take. Is he having tremors, or just feeling unsteady? Weakness, and dizziness can be a side effect of this medication, which contains Finasteride, and Tamsulosin. He may also experience nausea, headache, and changes in urination. Is he on any other medications? ## i'm taking urimax 0.2.but its not in my local market right now.may i take veltan 0.2 instead of urimax

My friend has been on Zytiga for the last five weeks. Last week his blood was tested for PSA and it showed increase from 35 to 90. This has shocked us. The pain is moderate and continues to be so. Does anyone have similar experience i.e. PSA going up. Does it come down once it goes up during treatment? ## PSA levels can increase initially with Zytiga before the levels start to fall. PSA levels can be misleading since they are an indirect marker of cellular debris from the prostate cancer. As the tumour dies off the PSA levels can rise as more cellular debris enters the bloodstream. Eventually this should fall to a lower level after 3 months. If Zytiga fails to work then you should try Salvestrols which work beyond Zytiga.

I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2001. I had radiation treatment 4 years later. Last summer my psa begin to rise rapidly. I was put on casodex & then 3 weeks later I had a lupron shot. I have not had a shot since & I continue to take 50 mg of casodex daily. My psa has stayed down for 4 months. My next blood test is April 7. Is it a bad idea to just stay on Casodex? I had hot flashes when I had the Lupron shot. I am not having hot flashes when only on Casodex. If my psa does not go up, I would like to just stay on Casodex. If my psa begins to rise I believe my Doctor plans to give me another Lupron shot. Does this seem like a good possible approach to my situation?

blue round S193 ## How many o The 3mg pills is safe to take withim a two hour ## And this is going to be another of verwon's PSA posts….. Regardless of what medication it is, please do not try to adjust the dosage yourself. You should only take the recommended amount, if it's an over the counter medication, or whatever amount your doctor has specified for a prescription medication. Doing otherwise puts you in danger of overdose, which may include organ damage, organ failure or death. You can learn more Lunesta details here. I may be getting a prostate biopsy and just wanted to know what I'm for. I'm I put to sleep,is there pain or discomfort, will I have trouble urinating. This is my original problem, sloow steam and my psa is above 6 what ever that means. I'm 61 ## Hello, Don! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, it's what's used to measure if you may have an infection, or prostate cancer. The biopsy will let the know which. There may be some discomfort and bleeding, afterwards, that can occur with any biopsy. Your urination issues will not likely change, as reported by the NIH. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Please advise me for what is the alternative to MRI scan for a prostate cancer diagnosis, since...

I cut myself with a clean knife and have some penicilina - v 800,000 U tablets. How much should I take a day to prevent infection? ## In regards to this, though it's an old post, I'm going to add another one of my important PSAs for anyone seeking similar information. The improper use of antibiotics carries the risk of causing antibiotic resistance, which could be very dangerous in the event that you get a real infection that requires treatment. Thus, it is not advisable to try to self-diagnose, self-treat, or try to dose yourself to prevent an infection. Most cuts, scrapes and etc. that are minor in nature will heal on their own in a short period of time. There are over the counter topical antibiotic ointments you can use, such as Neosporin and the generic equivalents, if you&#...

I have been using the gel for over nine months. My initial visit and test results were 152 clearly low for 55 years old. I started on two pumps a day and was retested 3mon. later with an increase to 583 and PSA in normal limits. Continued two pumps a day for 3 more months. Blood test results dropped to 128 lower than before I started taking it. So the Dr. upped the dose to three pumps a day. Three more months and another blood test and and the results were even more depressing. 118. I eat very healthy and work out at the gym 3-4 days a week for over a year. I have been takining this drug Jakavi for 18 months for the treatment of Myleofibrosis. My spleen has reduced in size, my blood levels are much closer to normal range except for the Haemoglobin which is low. My concern is that since the commencement of the course of the drug my PSA level has increased drastically. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Further: my most recent PSA reading is 27.5 and have had a Biopsy of Prostate which is negative of cancer. Could drug Jakavi or Ruxolitnib or the Myelofibrosis be influencing the PSA reading? ## Am on Jakafi 20mg twice a day for last 2 years and recent psa increased from 5 to 16 over that time. Am going to dr tomorrow to check about biopsy so will try to match my info with yours, but from my readings it is a possible side effect.
