I may be getting a prostate biopsy and just wanted to know what I'm for. I'm I put to sleep,is there pain or discomfort, will I have trouble urinating. This is my original problem, sloow steam and my psa is above 6 what ever that means. I'm 61 ## Hello, Don! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, it's what's used to measure if you may have an infection, or prostate cancer. The biopsy will let the know which. There may be some discomfort and bleeding, afterwards, that can occur with any biopsy. Your urination issues will not likely change, as reported by the NIH. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Please advise me for what is the alternative to MRI scan for a prostate cancer diagnosis, since...

My brother was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and later had prostatectomy followed by rounds of chemotherapy. He was later prescribed abiraterone which he has been taking for 5 months up until August. His PSA doesn't seem to be going down since 5 months he's been on it. The PSA was checked on Wednesday September 29th and the result is at 38. Do you think Casodex alone or with Lupron will work better than Abiraterone at getting his PSA down? Thanks ## It’s my understanding that Casodex and lupron should be taken together to get the best results. You can access many instructive and very optimistic videos from the Prostate Cancer Research Institute on YouTube regarding treatment options for stage 4 prostate cancer. Good luck! ## Thanks for your input. ## I was told by...

Hello - my dad was treated for prostate cancer 5 years ago via radiation and is in remission. He also is dealing with atrial fibrillation and is taking eliquis to counteract this. However, he recently has been bleeding quite a lot / passing blood in his urine / passing bloodclots and just had to have a transfusion to fight against the blood loss. The doctors are trying to find a remedy to stop this bleeding (they have said that around 5 years post prostate radiation treatment blood in your urine and clots can occur). The main issue is that my dad does not want to stop his eliquis in fear of a stroke and obviously wants to cease the non stop bleeding he is passing through his urine. Has anyone else experienced this? Prostate cancer with bleeding years later / A-fib / eliquis where they h...

Dx: prostate cancer getting CT of abd/pelvis, need to take omnipaque as oral prep what side effects should I expect ## Hi Hardy, The most frequently reported adverse reactions with Omnipaque are headache, mild to moderate pain including backache, neckache and stiffness, nausea, and vomiting. These reactions usually occur 1 to 10 hours after injection, and almost all occur within 24 hours. They are usually mild to moderate in degree, lasting for a few hours, and usually disappearing within 24 hours. Rarely, headaches may be severe or persist for days. Headache is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting and tends to be more frequent and persistent in patients not optimally hydrated. Does this help answer your question? I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2001. I had radiation treatment 4 years later. Last summer my psa begin to rise rapidly. I was put on casodex & then 3 weeks later I had a lupron shot. I have not had a shot since & I continue to take 50 mg of casodex daily. My psa has stayed down for 4 months. My next blood test is April 7. Is it a bad idea to just stay on Casodex? I had hot flashes when I had the Lupron shot. I am not having hot flashes when only on Casodex. If my psa does not go up, I would like to just stay on Casodex. If my psa begins to rise I believe my Doctor plans to give me another Lupron shot. Does this seem like a good possible approach to my situation?

I've had prostate cancer about 8 yrs. ago. Before I started on a testosterone supplement my levels were very low. Felt like I ran a marathon every day. No energy. Through trial and error my doctor and I have settled on 5 pumps of axiron a day. All my levels are good. I'll be turning 65 in about 4 months, and I'm trying to find the cheapest way to go on a prescription supplement plan that allows me to continue taking this medication. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had GAD for prostate cancer, spinal stenosis and used 600mg Gabapentin once a day at bedtimeas a possibility for my anxiety. It did work for a period of time but did no help for my anxiety at all. My neurologist recommended I Taper the Gabapentin the following manner: 600mg for 1 week, 500mg with 100mg for another week, 400mg less 100mg another week, then 300mg week less 200mg less then a 100mg, then one last week 100mg to finish the Taper. Following that 6 weeks my anxiety increased, severe headache, lack of sleep and my GAD is now worse. I did then try Xanax and then Valium with continued pain, anxiety, headache, all day long since the Gabapentin was fully tapered & cant determine my GAD & previous pain that seemed to be further cause of the Gabapentin and don't k...

My husband has an aggressive form of prostate cancer. In 2 years have been through chemo, radiation, lupron, immunotherapy (provenge), zytiga and another one or two that I can't remember. Anyway, the doctor is now talking about xtandi and Radium 223, and perhaps a clinical trial using Taxotere using Ascorbic acid. Side effects from the Xtandi, Radium and Taxotere (which he did 2 yrs ago when diagnosed) are not very pleasant, especially if the results are only for 3-4 months, which is the average before his psa rises and scans show the cancer spreading. Anyone else have an aggressive form of prostate cancer and dealing with treatment that doesn't work for long? ## Dear CeeCee, I'm very sorry to hear about the condition your husband is in. Is megestrol used to control hot flashes in men who have had prostate cancer radiation and harmone therapy? ## I did come across a study done on "Megestrol acetate for the prevention of hot flashes"; which you can view by following the link below: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8028614 It seems as though it would be pretty effective, as the study mentioned that hot flashes were reduced by 85% after four weeks on megestrol. The degree of efficacy was also noted to be similar in men and women. On a side note: Megestrol is a man-made version of the human hormone progesterone, and is commonly used by cancer patients, so I do believe that it is an option for those who have had prostate cancer radiation and hormone therapy. I hope this information helps to answer your question!

Medicine to help with Low lobido booster after undergoing brachytherapy for prostate cancer ## Have you consulted your doctor? I'm not really sure what's available for you, but the most commonly used in most countries is Viagra, which contains the active ingredient Sildenafil. However, you do need to check with your doctor, because your medical history and any other medications you are taking will have a bearing on whether or not you can take it.
