Propranolol, sold under the brand name Inderal among others, is a medication of the beta blocker class.[1] It is used to treat high blood pressure, a number of types of irregular heart rate, thyrotoxicosis, capillary hemangiomas, performance anxiety, and essential tremors,[1][2][3] as well to prevent migraine headaches, and to prevent further heart problems in those with angina or previous heart attacks.[1] It can...

I was on Propranolol 80mg extended-release tablets for 2 days for my anxiety. I know it's bad to suddenly stop taking beta-blockers, but I had to because my heart rate was too low and I felt horrible. I was told by a doctor that I should be ok to just stop altogether. I really just wanted some reassurance. Will I be ok? I stopped about 2 days ago, and my heart rate seems fine. ## OMG story of my life! I was prescribed Propranolol 80mg for anxiety also and just stopped taking them cold turkey 2 days ago because it was lowering my blood pressure and heart rate way too much, making me dizzy/light headed, etc. I feel awful right now, I have a headache, weird heart palpitations/fluttering, weakness, fatigue, sweating, etc. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I'm going to speak t...

Hi all, I suffer from GAD and panic disorder I was recently given 40 mg of propranolol to take twice a day. I have also been taking 150mg setraline for 2 years. I've only been taking propranolol for a few days but my anxiety is causing me to worry about how im feeling once I take it. My mouth goes very mildly numb and so do my lips after taking it which makes me panic as I think l having an allergic reaction then my throat starts feeling a little swollen but I don't know f that's because I'm convincing myself that's what's wrong? I usually need to lay down for an hour or so after taking it as i feel very off balance and not quite with it... I can feel my body trying to have a panic attack but it doesn't actually happen while on these tablets which is life cha...

I've been taking propranolol 80mg once a day for over 2 years for anxiety that caused me to have severe chest pain and to feel dizzy. It definitely made me feel better but the cause of my anxiety was due to where i worked and now I have moved work to somewhere that is a big advocate of helping employers with mental health. This has greatly helped the mental side of my anxiety so now I want to stop taking them before I become too dependent on them. What I want to know is are the side effects you get from it really bad or does it depend on the person. I dont want to stop and all the feelings i used to get come rushing back. Thank you for any advice. ## It can depend on the person, but it is always best to taper such a medication, since the NIH warns that stopping it abruptly could cau...

I just wanted to know if there are any foods that are dangerous to eat while taking this medication? ## I didn't find anything listed, nor have I heard of any warnings between foods and this class of medications, Propranolol is a beta blocker. However, if you are taking it for high blood pressure, you should be watching your salt intake and possibly your fat intake, if your doctor has instructed you to do so. Are there any questions or comments? ## Propranalol hydrochloride 80mg slow release capsules. Hi peeps my names Aaron and thought I'd share the topic above on how I felt when takin these capsules. I'm 27 I used to suffer from anxiety attacks/panic attacks when I first started takin them I felt so tired everyday became so lathargic it was horrible but they helped my cond...

Adult male here. About 5 years ago i quit drinking. Anxiety, panic attacks, migraines and PTSD resurfaced. Went to the doctor and the waiting room triggered me. As a normal physiological response to a perceived threat, my BP rose. Now in the doctors office, they look at my BP and say "wow it's so high!" I try to explain but since it wasn't on file... got prescribed propranolol. 10mg twice a day. Would get migraine in the afternoon so this was increased to 10mg 3 times a day / every 6 hours. Starting off with the side effects. It's like my lungs are coated in cement. Very hard to breath. Lung capacity has been reduced to about 30-50% of it's normal function. I told the doctor this she aid "Ya, it'll do that to ya!" casually... This has not gone away bu...

I was recently prescribed propranolol, 10 mg, as needed for performance anxiety. Took it before a presentation I had to give two nights ago and it helped. The performance went really well. The next day, something strange happened. I began having a panic attack in a restaurant. (I had one full-blown panic attack about 9 years ago and one near panic attack about 4 years ago, and these were both while I was having other significant issues in my life. Currently, I am in a very good place in life and have not had any problems with anxiety for quite a while, over 3 yrs). Anyways, this was unfortunately not the end of it. I happened to have the propranolol on me and took one on my way home in the car. It helped, but the anxiety resurfaced that evening. Next day (today), I had about 3 or 4 near...

Hi I'm 21 year old mum and from cambridge. I started the anti-biotics metronidazole 400g and doxycycline 100g 6days ago because my doctor thinks I've got some sort of infection after an examination. Each tablet I've got to take one twice a day, with or after food and I've got to take them for two weeks. But the reason for this comment is recently I've bin sufforing from anxiety, the last couple weeks I've panicked more! To the point I don't even smoke anymore! The thought of smoking worrys me along with drinkin ect, and I've bin a smoker for years! Literally 20-30 a day! My doc made me a nurses app about the quitting smokin which I have in two days, but back to my anxiety. He prescribed me cetalopram 3 days ago (thursday) and told me to try that as I was ...

I've been taking these medications for the last 4 years, 2 tablets per day. Lately I've been using 3 tablets per day as it is most useful for me to reduce the depression and anxiety. If this can cause side effects what is another alternative I could use? ## Both medications can help and depending on several factors, exacerbate anxiety and depression. If it were me I would get off both of these and possibly get on a single antidepressant if it is depressiont you are having issues with. It's important to ask this and any questions regarding prescribed medications TO THE PERSON THAT PRESCRIBED the medications. People here only know what you've written in a couple lines. Whereas the prescribing person should know much more indeed. Unless you are using the propranolol for sta...

I was told that people who are addicted to Xanax can be weaned off of it with this Propranolol Hydrochloride 40 mg pill marked "40 Dan 5556". Is this a true fact? What all is Propranolol used for? ## Michael Jackson died from it. It is an anesthetic for surgeries. MJ on top of Valium and dillaudid shots he got from dr Conrad Murray. He went to jail for four years. I’ve never heard of anybody using it, for the help or getting off Xanax. It really takes 5 days if you ween w the first benzo ever made called Librium. I got off Xanax In 5 days at a detox. I couldn’t believe it w no side effects or rebound anxiety ## It's a beta 2 blocker and will help slow the heart rate down if it is beating too fast. ## RB is correct, Propranolol is a beta blocker, which is most com...

Hi, I was taking propranolol to help with anxiety. Dosage was dependent on how bad anxiety was on any given day. I was struggling with self-esteem, so visited a hair clinic for help with thinning hair. One of the things that I was given by the clinic was Minoxidil 10%, which is a product proven to help stimulate hair regrowth (see Rogaine). This product was applied to the scalp twice a day, morning and night. Within a few days of using the Minoxidil, I started to feel chronic fatigue, which literally knocked me off my feet. I also went into a really deep depression. Something was not right! I took to Dr Google lol. Very quickly, I found that chronic fatigue and depression are two symptoms of very low blood pressure. Fortunately, I own a BP monitor and took some readings. My usual restin...

Please let me know if propranol works how much you take and how long it takes ## Hi Theresa, According to nih.gov, Propranolol is used to treat high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart disease, pheochromocytoma, and/or certain types of tremor. It can also be used to prevent chest pain and migraine headaches. However it is not used at all for anxiety... let alone severe cases of it. You may want to sit down and have a talk with the doctor who prescribed this to you if you were falsely led to believe that it was even for anxiety in the first place. Sounds like there could've been some sort of mix up with the prescriptions perhaps... You can learn more about this drug on the page for Propranolol Details Are you taking this medication legitimately?

I have bad anxiety whereas my hands and neck are trembling, plus I have always felt tired and have low confidence. My doctor advised me to take Escitalopram and Clozel-beta. Will this help? ## The Lexapro (escitalopram) may work for your anxiety but you'll have to take it for nearly a month to see if it has any therapeutic effects. Being that it's an anti-depressant it would also likely improve your self esteem. These SSRI medications are often hit and miss (meaning they work for some people but not others). They are generally the first line treatment in the psychiatric field for anxiety. The Clozel-Beta is a clonazepam .5 mg and Propranolol 20 mg formulation. The clonazepam is a benzodiazepine which should immediately provide relief for your anxiety and associated symptoms. The...
