Prolia Pain

Took my first Prolia shot 4 days ago. I am having severe jaw pain. Most people can hear my jaw moving and it feels and sounds like it is cracking. I am going to report to FDA and of course make an appointment with my dentist. I just finished treatment for breast cancer and have to take an aromatase inhibitor for 5 years which causes weakining of bones which is why they prescribed Prolia. I am just beginning but I will never take another dose of Prolia. ## HI! Very sorry that you're in pain and miserable. I have had 3 Prolia injections so far. Only recently did I see a pattern regarding the ensuing pain. After each injection, I would have about four pain-free days. Then I would have five months of constant and debilitating pain in both hips, both knees, both thighs and both shins. At the end of the fifth month, the pain would stop suddenly, and I would have one month with no pain at all. This would be followed, of course, by another Prolia injection, and the pattern would repeat itself. The reason I kept going with the Prolia was that my rheumatologist informed me that my pain had no connection to the drug! It took me three repetitions to smarten up and decide to believe my body. I had my first shot in November, My back ached nothing major. That went away but I have severe muscle pain in my arm where the shot was given. I can barely lift my grand baby. I called my arthritic doc and he said oh he has not seen anyone with that complaint. I went to my primary doc who wanted me to go to PT . I said why are you sending me to PT when I am telling you I did nothing to cause damage to my arm except have this shot. I am left with un answered questions if prolia caused this and after reading posts afraid to take it again. I had my first injection on Feb.16th. I am 72 years young. I have neck and shoulder pain off and on. Aqua Relaxing class at the Y has helped this but since the shot I am having more pain in neck and across my shoulders on both sides. Not sure if injection could cause this. I have a lot of stress in my life and also slept in a twin bed for a few days after shot and thought pain started with that. Not sure if that was the cause? I am due for my second inj. of Prolia. I have read that neck pain and stiffness with the feeling also of having a swollen gland in side of neck can occur. I am 79 and do not intend on having a second inj. ## I have had Prolia shots for 4-1/2 years. No problem until now. I am having severe neck pain and swelling on the right side of my neck, it is so severe that I cannot function, I have severe chronic osteoporosis, the prolia shots have improved my severely thin bones a lot, should I quit getting the shots? I have just had the Prolia injection. So far no side affects that I am aware of. My Mum was given a 60mg injection of Prolia on 2nd May 2014. Ever since she has had severe abdominal pain, can't keep off the toilet and her lips have blistered and bled! This is awful and she wishes she had not had it. At 79 years old she suffers with osteoporosis and quite honestly was better off before the injection. I sincerely hope these side effects don't last for six months because she sure as hell won't be having a second dose. On 11/6/12 I received a 60 mg dose of Prolia intravenously . Shortly afterwards ( a couple of days) I had severe diarrhea and flu like symptoms which cleared up in a week or so. THEN the jaw pain took over my life----- It was excruciating. I went for a scan of my jaw and was told that I have osteonecrosis of the jaw. Today, 11/1/13 some of the pain has eased but it is still difficult for me to eat chewy foods and to get a good night's sleep. To cough, sneeze or yawn causes severe pain. I get sharp pain in my ear mostly at night. My family doctor prescribed Alleve twice a day and a narcotic pain killer in between when the pain gets unbearable. Hello, First I want to say I am 56 and almost never have medicaton problems. I had 4 rounds of chemo in 2010 and am doing great. My oncoligist said it would be benifical for me to have Prolia every 6 months. My T score waas good but he thought it would help me later. I had my first (and only) Prolia injection on 12/01/11. Six days later I was in severe pain and went to see my primary care physician and he sent me streight to the emergancy room.I had upper left abdominal pain and fever. Had third Prolia shot 6 weeks ago and my life has changed dramatically. Nasea, headaches, numbness, tingling, weakness, back pain... I was very active and now am barely able to get out of bed! Four doctor visits, all kinds of tests, one ER visit and tests all normal. I am not crazy - it is the Prolia!!!! Don't do it. There are other more natural options to help with bone density. Hello my name is Susie. In july 2012 I had my first inj of Prolia. A month afterwards I contracted flu like symptoms, another month down the road i became very ill again. I went to my primary care doctor and he told me it was a viral infection and it would have to run its course. Another month passed and then the symptoms now worsened. After more than a decade of taking various meds to try to stop my bones from wasting away with no success, I had my first injection of Prolia at the end of December 2015. I am supposed to get my second shot within the week, but have decided against it. I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none. ## Prolia is used to treat or prevent Osteoporosis, specifically in post-menopausal women, it contains the active ingredient Denosumab. I had Aclasta infusion in September 2012 followed by severe side effects - chest and rib pain, joint pain, high fever. Specialist now wants me to have Prolia, due now. My hip bone numbers are worse after the 6 month shot. ## Not all medications and treatments work for everyone that tries them, that's why they are usually several choices available in any given therapeutic category. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Prolia as possibly including bladder infection, arm/leg pain and back pain. You may need to speak to your doctor about trying an alternative. Is there anything else I can help with? ## This is a terrible drug. I only took 2 injections in 9/14 and 3/15, but still have the resulting hair damage and jaw pain. My ENT and Dentist both told me that my jaw is messed up...Prolia does mention that as a side effect, but not hair damage. My immune system is weaker too...even 3 years after stopping Prolia. I am a 68 year old woman with severe osteoporosis. I had a bone scan and tested -4.5. I was on Fosimax for 5 years but had severe thigh pain and had to quit. Just 6 months ago I had my first Prolia shot. I felt okay for the first month or 6 weeks and then had a severe bladder infection. I went to my doctor and he put me on Cipro for a week. It didn't work. Then he put me on another antibiotic for another week and I finally got relief. Neither of us thought of the Prolia shot even though I've always been healthy and never had problems with my bladder. When it finally got better, I got a horrific head cold.
