Proctitis

I have ulcerative colitis and ulcerative proctitis. I have not been able to establish remission for as long as I have been diagnosed which was 5 years ago. I am 66 years old. My dr gave me 20 mg of prednisone to settle it down. I have been taking it for 4 days now and in the evening I have a terrible gas and urgency to go to the bathroom for about 3 hours. Could it be a side effect of the prednisone? ## Hello, CB! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. Yes, Prednisone is a steroid, so it can cause such side effects, the FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, acne and weight gain. Are you on any other medications?

I had a miscarriage 8th April- since mc my proctitis/ colitis flared up which I put down to stress/ immune system rebalancing. I've been on 30mg a day oral pred, with 20mg predfoam for two weeks, and now tapering down. Currently on 20mg a day orally and 5mg pred suppositries. I've not had a period since the mc which will be 8 weeks ago. My question is- could the predisolone be preventing my period? I thought only prolonged use of steroids would effect my cycle. What is considered a high dose of pred? My proctitis does appear to be settling. In terms of other reported pred side effects I am definitely irritable and irrational... Moody and depressed. But a part of me puts that down to the mc. Just feel at the end of my tether and not sure where to turn to. ## Hello, Angela! How ar...

I am about to have a colonoscopy and my doctor advised me not to take any anti-inflammatory drugs. ## I had a colonoscopy done and sow the swilling in the picture taken. I was told that my problem is chronic. The doctor prescribed CANASA 1000 MG. This medication is so expansive that it cost me over $500 for 30 day supply, that is thru insurance. Per my search online, this medication dose not cure ulcerative proctitis but it may decrease the number of stools, the amount of mucus/blood in the stools, and the rectal bleeding caused by irritation/swelling of the colon/rectum. Mesalamine is an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug. It is believed to work by blocking the production of certain natural chemicals that may cause pain and swelling. How can my condition be treated effectively, rat...
