I was doing realtively well at 50mg for about 3-4 weeks, All of a sudden the med pooped out on me and I found myself taking ativan everyday to compensate. My doc intitially told me to take half of a 50mg pill. My pharmacist told me not to do that s it is time released. Instead we upped the dosage to a full 100mg. I had some dififuclty staying alseep last night. Must have woke up 10 times. Anxiety levels are very high when not takign the ativan. It is a very difficult way to live. Is the 100mg doage dangerous? I think that I get very very high anxiety from the anxiety meds themselves. I had a friend at age 20 die from RX pills her doctor told her were safe. Since then, I have always had the fear of medication and it produces profund anxiety whiel transitioning. The only med that ever gav...

I am on my 6th day of Pristiq 50mg. and I am starting to feel like my old self. Still tired off and on. The first 4 day were hell. I felt awful. I felt nauseous, had a reoccurring small headache. My legs were achy and couldn't sleep. I finally took 1/2 of a Ativan (2.5mg) and that helped a lot. Each day gets better, so maybe there is hope yet. I hope so. Other antidepressants haven't done anything but make me lethargic. ## Hello, Andy Girl! How are you doing now that a few weeks have passed? I really hope the Pristiq works well for you, many people have had good results with it. The nausea, headache, aches and insomnia are all normal side effects, when you first start taking it.

I am on day 4 without Pristiq in my system. I was on 100mg for 5 years then dropped to 50mg for a few months. I tried taking a pill every other day but on my off day I was having awful withdrawal symptoms so decided to just stop taking it and get this over with. The withdrawal symptoms are driving me crazy, brain zaps, hot/cold flashes, headaches, vertigo, anxiety. My doctor said I can wait it out until Thursday and see if it gets better otherwise it's to a different drug that can be weaned off more easily. Does anyone have any success stories for weaning off pristiq and surviving the symptoms? It would be nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel! ## I didn't do it with Pristiq, it was a different medication, but I can assure you that there is light at the end of t...

I am switching from Lexapro to Pristiq with my Pdoc. He recommended that I drop from my regular 20 mg of lexapro to 10mg and go to 50mg of pristiq. He said after 2 weeks drop the lexapro altogether. is this safe? is it too fast? I take 2 10mg tablets. Should I maybe go to 15mg--10mg-5mg-0? How have other people made the transition with minimum problems? ## How long have you been taking Lexapro for? From my perspective I think what your doctor recommend is fine. What's safe for "you" may not necessarily be safe for someone else (and vise versa, because everyone is different). If you're tapering your Lexapro dose down to 10mg from 20mg within 2 weeks, in my opinion, that seems to be a sufficient time frame to re-adjust. If tapering the dose really concerns you though, I wo...

Wanted to share my experience with coming of this drug with others because I have looked towards others experiences the past few days which have helped me a ton! I started taking Lexpro around the age of 17 never had any real issues besides being tired a lot. I stayed on Lexpro for over 3 years. After complaining about being tired my doctor wanted me to try Pristiq saying it might give me more energy. The switch over between Lexpro and Pristiq was easy I don't recall any struggles. Now I have been taking Pristiq for about 3 years. I have always taken 50mg once a day. If I followed that dosage I was totally fine. But if for whatever reason I missed a day I was shortly reminded by the terrible dizziness an nausea. About a year ago I told the same doctor that put me the medication I wa...

I've been on 1mg of ability with 50mg of pristiq mainly for PTSD purposes and my and some of my symptoms have worsened anger, hyper arousal, nightmares etc. I have tried other medications such as Zoloft,Prozac,Welbutrin all with no success or symptoms that became worse. Is there anything else that I could ask my doctor about? ## Hello, Cliff! How are you? Have you ever tried Risperdal? It has successfully helped many people for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, schizophrenia and etc. It's very potent so tiny doses are often effective and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, somnolence and weight gain. It's an idea to ask your doctor about. Does anyone else have any ideas that may help? ## Try 2 m...

I have been on Pristiq for about 4 years and was on levoxyl for a few years prior. I had started taking Sarafem 925mg) about 8 or 9 yrs ago for pms by my gyno. I had thyroid cancer 11 years ago and I have not been the same since I had my thyroid removed. I dont know if I should be blaming the fact that I dont have a thyroid on my issues or if I am truly depressed. I want to be off Pristiq to see how I am now without any meds. I am having a lot of bad thoughts but don't know if that is part of the withdrawl. I have not had any brain zaps and I had taken my 50mg every other day for 2 weeks and am now on every 3rd day. I am feeling a little foggy with occasional dizziness and did cry on Mother's Day but I was missing my mom too so not sure what is realted to what. What will the Dr....

Has anyone ever experienced this? I've taken pristiq for about 2 years for anxiety and other than the very rare breakthrough anxiety, I've been really happy with it. For the past 2-3 days, I've been having brain zaps though and I haven't changed any of my meds or missed any. Same meds/dose, taken at the same time of day for years, so I wonder what's causing this now? The only recent lifestyle change I've made is starting to excercise an hour a day for 5 days/wk and eating better because I need to lose weight. I've been doing that for about 7 weeks and have lost around 20 lbs. I've dieted and excercised while taking this med before though and don't remember the zaps happening. They're mild in comparison to those I've had when I'd miss a cou...

I have been on Pristiq 50mg for four weeks. I feel like it is working for my anxiety/depression. The side effects I have been experiencing are headaches (starting to improve) insomnia at night-time and feeling confused/having trouble thinking clearly/concentrating. This is the side effect I find most bothersome. Will these side effects ease up in time? ## Most side effects will taper off, once your body gets used to the medication, but that can sometimes take about 5 to 6 weeks. If there is no improvement after that, you should consult your doctor as it might not be the right medication to help you. The FDA lists other possible side effects as including nausea, loss of appetite, and decreased libido. Ref: Pristiq Information Is there anything I can help with?

Doctor switched me from effexor 75mg to pristiq 50mg because the effexor was giving me terrible nausea. I have been on the pristiq for 2 days and it is giving me diarrhea and making me so sick to my stomach! Help! Anybody else have this experience? Would it be ok to just stop taking the pristiq since i have just been taking it for 2 days? Please help; I feel so sick and so alone!!! ## Have you spoken to your doctor, yet? There are actually several possibilities here that could be causing the problem. They could be caused from stopping the Effexor, thus they may be mild withdrawal effects. They could be cause from starting the Pristiq, or it could be a combination of both factors. Since these medications do work on brain chemicals, it isn't advisable to just stop abruptly, because it...

I have been taking Pristiq now for about 2 years and have experiences side affects mainly weight gain, dry mouth and eyes and sleep disturbances, I do not like being on this drug but I need something to stem my anxiety and it is effective for me. I started out taking 50mg and after a year I tried to taper off, and managed well with one 50mg tablet every second day, I started doing this while on holidays when the stress levels were OK. For a year now I have been on this dose and probably will stay on it as not only does it solve my stress problems but this dosage does not cause me any side affects, if I miss the next dose though on the second day I start to feel dizzy. I still hate this drug but a small dose of 25mg is not as bad for me as the stress. ## Hi Martinigirl, Sorry to hear abo...

Had a little stomach cramping for a day or so, my head felt a little wobbly at times while on quarter, only down fall is really bad dreams. Been free from Pristiq for about 1 week now and all is well. ## I am about to go to a 1/4 tablet plz keep me posted on how you are going good luck thanks

My husband and I decided to try for our third baby. I went in for 2 consultations to make sure that the 50mg I was taking once a day would not cause any problems. I was reassured twice that it was completely safe and would control my panic attacks while I was pregnant. I am 7 months pregnant and my son has been diagnosed with hrhs it is a severe heart condition... Women beware I have had 2 very healthy babies and now my third son is facing a life of open heart surgeries!!! ## I am very sorry about your child's diagnosis. On the Pristiq, I want to ask who told you it was safe? Learn more Pristiq details here. The reason I'm asking is because while no controlled studies have been done during pregnancy, it has been shown to cause problems, especially when taken during the third tri...

I have been on pristique 50mg for 13 months now. The first 9 months I felt great but after that I feel that the pristique has started to wear off and going up to 100mg is no different. Today my doctor has reccomended that we add Wellbutrin 150mg in combo with the pristique. Has anyone taking this combo and if so how is it working for you? ## Have you tried adding the Wellbutrin yet? Learn more Wellbutrin details here. Learn more Pristiq details here. It's fairly common for several medications to be combined to best try and help someone, especially if they are treatment resistant, or have grown tolerant to one or more medications, as you have.

Is anyone taking these 2 medications together? I am new to all of this, was put on alprazolam for anxiety, and just started on 50mg pristiq last night. Was told to increase to 100mg after 1 week, then try alprazolam only when I feel I need it. Has anyone else used it like this. I don't usually have any medications at all, but had a rough year last year I don't think I faced, and was sent for an mri before shoulder surgery 5 weeks ago, and this has really triggered something !! Could not have it done. So now I am going on a cruise in 7 days, and feeling quite anxious about it still. There are so many conflicting stories! ## Hello, My findings state that there are in fact moderately unsafe interactions between these two drugs. I have been on pristine for many years! My doc had said to go down to 50 mg for 3 weeks then none. I go in to see him in 3 more weeks- I am a mess!! Crying a lot and brain zaps (good term) from other messages. I hope to God this gets better soon. ## Hello, Sue! How are you doing? Yes, if you were on it for such a long time and abruptly stop taking it, then such rebound and withdrawals effects will usually occur. That was still a relatively high amount to have you stop on. Learn more Pristiq details here. The preferred method now is usually to do a very gradual taper, by slowly lowering the medication and starting to skip doses. Did he give a reason he was having you stop at 50mgs? He could have had you use the regular release formulation and just cut them to lower it further for awhile....

WAS ON PRISTIQ FOR 3 MONTHS AND WENT OFF BECAUSE INS, WON'T PAY. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTONS GOING OFF THE MEDICINE. ## Nausea and vomiting ## i just posted in another forum, but i have now done 2 weeks of 50 mg (down from 100) - i seriously had almost no side effects. The only things i experienced were: 1) very odd, vivid dreams 2) some night sweats 3) first 2 days some zapping in hands and legs with a little numbness - went away completely after 2 days today is the first day with no pristiq altogether. Again no side effects (so far) except the same zapping and numbness i had when i dropped from 100 to 50. I assume the next few days will be the test. I was advised to go to one 50mg every tother day for another 2 weeks but i may just cut off completely now, i don't think I'm too p...

Greetings! I've been on 50mg Pristiq since October after hitting an incredible low after weaning off of Effexor the previous July. Pristiq has worked really wonderful for me and I've suffered little to no side effects compared to when I was on Effexor; however, it's incredibly expensive and my withdrawl symptoms get dire pretty quickly. Due to broke I have resorted to getting meds from Mexico (so much cheaper! thank goodness for family that lives by the border). I have one more pill for tomorrow then I'll have maybe a 4 day lapse? Last time this happened things got ugly and I'm so afraid of that happening again. It's like I'm fine, stable, happy even and then about 12 hours after missing my dose I go into a suicidal spiral. Does anyone have any suggestions of...

I was on Pristiq for nearly four years to help stabilize my mood (50mg). The drug was fantastic in achieving the result I was looking for and really gave me the space in my head to come to terms with my issues and time to reflect. The side effects for me were weight gain (15kg) and loss of libido but overall a small price to pay. I decided in December to come off the drug and read as much information as I could find, both professional and user opinion. I spoke with my doctor initially and his advice was to take the medication on alternate days. I chose to ignore that advice based on the way I felt if I missed a day and reading others experiences. Against manufacturers advice I decided to cut the tablet and reduce my dose a quarter at a time. To start with I spoke with my family to make ...

I've been on Pristiq, 50mg, daily for almost two months. I have a history of atrial fibrillation. Is there any danger of Prestiq causing my heart to go into A-Fib? (So far, it hasn't.)....Bob ## Pristiq contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, it is an SNRI antidepressant. I am not finding any warnings about this listed, but this site is not medical professionals, so you should ask your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. You can read more on the drug yourself here: Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns?
