My question is this, I was having a very difficult time filling my legitimate 30mg oxycodone qty(120) prescription, I had an old prescription from my old pm dr. that was for 10mg oxycodone qty (98). I showed it to the pharmacist he told me it was no problem to fill, and that the only issue would be that insurance would not cover both. After looking everywhere I decided to go ahead and fill the 10"s and pay cash. A week later the 30's were finally in stock so I was actually told over the phone, got to pharmacy and low and behold they only had 5 left, there were 2 other medications to fill on the same prescription, Norco's and Soma's, they said they could fill those and I would have to wait on the oxy's. I have been receiving the same prescription for 7 years. I am prescribed 270 30mg oxycodone a month. I have severe back injury that is inoperable with severe neuropathy into both legs. Since the new quantity guidelines took effect, I have been unable to get my script filled. My Dr secretary drop the ball and did not get prior authorization for the extra quantity. the pharmicst think there god i have been getting them filled for three years now all of a sudden they dont want to fill them same dr same meds im so sick of this ## @big ed, I definitely understand your frustration with these pharmacies. From what others have stated, I get the sense that the DEA is the one controlling how much they hand out and how often they are even able to hand it out. There's really no other logical explanation for pharmacists to freak out about filling patients prescriptions other than the notion that their inventory is probably being strictly monitored by the DEA. What I have yet to figure out is why doctors are even permitted to write so many scripts for it, when only a small percentage of patients are allowed the luxury of getting them filled? I have multiple back injuries starting from being a gymnast when I was younger, being in a abusive relationship, and then taking a really bad fall in a local supermarket. I've had xrays, mri's, physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, inj's. The last resort was back surgery and I replied, "absolutely not" I'm sorry but nobody is cutting my back open. It is perfectly fine to do so, as long as your aren't trying to get several prescriptions filled for the same medication. However, many areas are experiencing a shortage, right now, so you may still have trouble getting it filled. The only tip I can give you, however, is to actually go to the pharmacies, with your prescription in hand to ask. Due to the high risk of theft, most of them will just tell anyone that calls that they do not carry controlled substances. Today I went into a pharmacy that is located inside a hospital where I go to see my surgeon whom I've been seeing for 2 years now for a severe spinal injury and spondylolisthesis. After a 25-minute wait the pharmacist came to me and said he can't fill it because I don't meet the criteria. I asked him what he meant by criteria I didn't know you needed a criteria to get medication he proceeded to tell me he didn't have to give that information. I'm just curious if a pharmacist could tell me why they have to "verify" my oxycodone script? when they verify these prescriptions with the prescribing doctor, what exactly is being verified? Does the doctor himself have to take these phone calls all day from pharmacies? if im already in a pharmacies computer and getting same meds for a year, then isnt that adequate proof that my script is legit? or is something else being looked at? I got a pain shot in my lower left back. I now have quarter sized hole that is skin to top of back pelvis. From what I've recently read from others under similar circumstances, there are rumors going around that Oxycodone in all its forms are gradually being taken off the market by the FDA. This would explain why very few people are having success finding a pharmacy to fill it; especially in Florida.
