i have been on subutek for 6 months now and just found out i am 6 weeks pregnant and im scared on what to do am i to try to quit the subutek or if i stay on them what are the laws in tenn for using subutek while pregnant? ## Hello, Rickie! How are you? Congratulations on the baby!!! Since you're pregnant, it is very important that you inform your doctor that you've been taking it, for the safety of both you and your baby. It is the preferred drug to be used during pregnancy and your doctor can help you make sure that you see someone who is knowledgeable about using it during pregnancy. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

Im 37 weeks pregnant ive been on subutex since i was 5 weeks pregnant i take 16mg a day anyone have any info on how baby will do? Dr thinks she will be fine i have to stay in hospital for 4 days min w baby they want me to breastfeed yet plan to switch me to strips which i dont understand if strips arent safe while pregnant why is it ok while breastfeeding? ## Hello, Jess! How are you? Congratulations on the baby! :-) While you're pregnant, you basically need to operate on the premise that everything you take in is now going to affect two, rather than just you. Due to the fact that at this time you are actually carrying the baby inside your body, they are more directly affected by everything you do. However, it is different when breastfeeding, because not everything passes into your ...

I have been taking either suboxone or subutex for a little over a year now. I started taking it because I have a bad knee and my line of work causes a lot of pain (CNA in nursing home). I ended up getting hooked on it. I only take 2mg a day and I do sometimes skip a day. I recently found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant unexpectedly and I am terrified. I refuse to have a baby hooked on anything but I have read that stopping can cause miscarriage. I am already scared because I had a miscarriage 6 years ago. I do not know what to do. I want to stop taking it but safely and I'm scared to tell a doctor due to the fact I do not have a prescription. Please Help! ## First of all, suboxone and subutex are NOT used for pain. They are used, wrongly, for withdrawal symptoms associated with opia...

I have been taking subutex for about 7months now , before that I took suboxone for 2 yrs . I like the subutex a lot better not near as groggy and less headaches. I have been very careful about not getting pregnant and somehow it happened . I take half of an 8mg tablet 3 times a day but here recently since being pregnant it doesn't seem to be working as well , I realize I have a lot of extra blood flow and am assuming that's probably why. Also everytime I go to put them under my tounge within 2-4 mins the morning sickness kicks in and I throw everything up including the majority of the pill . Well it's 9 days till I get my next refill and I'm out and I don't know what to do. Should I call my Dr to see if I can refill early or what ? I guess I'm just afraid to ask ...

My wife is pregnant and I just found out she has been taking Subutex for several months. To make matters worse she's been trying to taper off this drug under the advise of someone she met at other forums. She hasn't let the doctor know she's been taking this drug and this guy has her convinced he can taper her off without harming the baby. I'm besides myself and trying to get her to at least let the doctor monitor her progress on a regular basis while she gets off this stuff. Is this really safe for her to be doing or am I right in thinking she's lost her mind trusting this person? ## I am on subutex and pregnant. My doctor believes that the safest thing I can do is stay on the meds. If I go through withdrawals, so does baby. ## I would highly suggest (sounds better ...

I'm pregnant and only take 1 mg a day of subutex for a year. I want to stop. its been 3 days and I can't sleep! I don't want to tell my dr cause I just want to quit. I'm so sick of feeling this way and being addicted. is it safe for me to quit cold turkey? ## Hello, Niki! How are you? Congratulations on the baby! No, it is definitely not safe for you to just stop taking it, while you're pregnant. While you may do okay, the withdrawal effects could be very dangerous for your baby and might result in miscarriage or stillbirth. Please, speak to your doctor about this, if you really feel you need to stop taking it, they can help you do so safely. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

Hello, I am currently 32 weeks pregnant, I am prescribed 10 mg Subutex a day, but really only take an average of 4 mg a day, sometimes less. I really had my mind set on coming off completely before I deliver and my doctor is 100% ok with me doing that if I feel comfortable doing it myself. I'm looking for success stories. So if you tapered off while pregnant please, your reassurance would mean so much to me. I have trouble sleeping because my guilt eats me alive ?? Please let me know there is hope and that coming off subutex completely before delievering my baby girl is possible! Thank you! -B ## Hey i see there's no replies yet but i wanted to offer some words, not sure if ill help much. My daughter is 15 months. My Dr has been holding my meds. If I miss a day at the clinic then as punishment they hold the following day's worth, but from my understanding they should not be doing that while I'm pregnant? ## While it may not be the best thing to do, while someone is pregnant, no doctor is required to provide you with any treatment, or medication, unless you, or your baby are in immediate life threatening danger. Thus, they can refuse to treat you, or provide a medication, any time they see fit. I know this doesn't help you, I'm just telling you the way the laws currently stand. Why have you been missing appointments? Are they not willing to accommodate you for when you need to go in? The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effec...

To make this short, I am currently 8 months pregnant and taking between 8-12 mg of subutex daily. However I can't get my subutex for 12 days. I'm stuck. Currently on 3rd day of withdrawals and I'm 8 months pregnant!!! I'm in horrible pain plus I'm extremely worried about my baby. My local hospital doesn't have a suboxone doctor to dose or prescribe. What should I do?? Will the withdrawals hurt my baby? Where should I go?! Plus it's Saturday!! No doc offices open! What should I do? I don't want to feel this way anymore & I really don't want this to hurt my baby! Someone please help me! ## Did you talk to the hospital? Maybe under your circumstances they can give you something to help out until you can see someone.Especially if there might be side e...

This baby is so loved and wanted its just unfourtunate i have 11 discs in my neck n spine that are in some way outta wack on top of Rheumotoid Arthritis which i am on no meds for. I want to try to switch to subutex and then taper off that and be totally free of addictive meds by 6 mos and have a non addicted baby with no need to withdrawal. I've seen that people in the USA have started to get the new 8mg tablets which are smaller than the old 8mg one's and these were introduced in England as the old tablets were being abused. So they made the new pill smaller believing it would dissolve quicker but they were easier to hide and people had more risk of OD. This was mainly started by pressure from the home office to the drug companies because the abuse of subutex within the English prisons and the shadow economy within the prisons! ## I may of been stupid, but I took Subutex the whole time I was pregnant and my baby is perfectly healthy and scored really low with withdrawal symptoms. ## Mikeyf1973, what are the markings on them? I have been taking 8mg subutex for at least 3yrs now due to an allergic reaction to suboxone films and when I went to the doctor yesterday he said he could only prescribe subutex to pregnant women only. I've passed drug panels for over 3yrs & am not understanding why he took me off of subutex? ## It is a preferred directive from the DEA. They have instructed that it only be prescribed for women that are pregnant, unless they have a validly diagnosed allergy to the Naloxone in Suboxone. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. I live in Fort Meyers fl. I am currently on Suboxone and looking to be put on Subutex. I am pregnant and my doctor will not see me anymore. He says the contract I signed stated I wouldn't become pregnant. He referred to me to a methadone program. Which i do not want to have to do. Any advice is welcome. I am tapering and plan to be off in 3 months. ## Hello, Jeannie! How are you? Congrats on the pregnancy! As to finding a doctor, I think the easiest way may be to ask your OBGyn, they can usually refer you to a doctor that will treat pregnant women. The FDA classifies Subutex as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Someone told me that as of July 1,2015 if u were being prescribed subutex that unless u were pregnant u would have to be put on suboxone ## I heard the same thing. Someone please give information. ## I think it's an odd thing for doctor's/pharmacies to start implementing. Especially since there are individuals with allergies to Naloxone, who just can't take Suboxone. I've yet to come across any specific details about this new policy, but something else I find interesting is that Actavis recently came out with a new orange Subutex tablet (153 imprint w/ a half moon logo) that I'm sure wouldn't have been prescribed to patients within the past month only to be switched to Suboxone '30 days later'? Something about that just doesn't seem right. I realize b...

I need to know if ANYONE has any information regarding KY state regulations of the detoxing and administration of Subutex with pregnant women. Can an MD pull the prescription without warning from a pregnant woman? what are the side effects of withdrawal from this with mother/child in last trimester? ## If the woman is not in immediate, life threatening danger, then no doctor is required to treat her, or prescribe any medication, even if she is pregnant. A doctor has the right to discontinue treating a patient, or prescribing any medications, at any time they deem appropriate. The same as the right as patient has to decide they no longer want to see that doctor, or stop taking any given prescribed medication. The only time treatment is obligated from a medical profession would be if her ...

Hello i just found out i was having a baby i have bluecare insurance does anyone know a doc that prescribes subutex and takes my insurance and is in murfressboro tn please help ## I don't know how it is in TN, but judging by down here in GA, where I live and what I did when I found out I was pregnant and surprise surprise got laid off my job a week later. My best bet was to go get emergency Medicaid. And they would do anything to help you get off and stay off drugs, like they did for me. They paid for me to be in a private rehab center where they could monitor me and the baby and there were doctors and nurses there. So if suboxone makes withdrawal for and your child more bearable and safe, they'd probably have no problem with you having them since you'll be in a safe, clinic...

I went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone. ## They Are Both the same thing. Better yet, stop doing narcotics, get off opiates completely. Do you focus on school and work as much as you do opiates being controlled By the DEA??? ## Jim, not that it's any of your business, but yes I do focus on my career now that I'm off the opiates and taking subutex. I received my B.S. in molecular biology and am currently completely my 2nd year of medical school. So now that you know a little about me, what about you? Since I'm s...

What the difference between Buprenorphine with Naloxone and Buprenorphine without Naloxone ## Hello, Cynthia! How are you? That is the difference. once contains the Naloxone to help prevent the abuse of other medications, while someone is being treated with it and the other doesn't. Naloxone isn't safe for everyone, particularly pregnant women, or someone who is allergic to it, so a different option has to be available for them.
