My grandma has been taking prednisone 10mg a day for almost a month. She just all of a sudden stopped taking them because she felt better. Now she's having pain in her leg. Is it from stooping the prednisone ## Hello, Lisa! How is your grandmother doing? If she was taking it for 21 days, or more, there could be some problems caused by stopping it suddenly, rather than tapering it. However, only her doctor can check this out and give you a definitive answer. Typical side effects while taking a steroid, such as this, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne and fluid retention, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications?

Now I can't sleep, can't get comfortable, running nose, watery eyes, sneezing and cold shakes. An "Emergency" doctor told me I needed to be weened by 1 mg per week. ## Yes, if someone has been taking a steroid like this for more than 21 days, they should be tapered off of it to prevent complications, such as adrenal fatigue, according to FDA warnings. Can you taper prednisolone.. 30mg/day for a week by 10mg/day each week after without side effects or is it best to go from 30 to 20 to 10 to 5mg? ## Hello, Jacko! How are you? How has your doctor directed you to taper it? Sometimes, if you've been taking it for less than 3 weeks, tapering isn't necessary. Usually, however, when it is tapered, it is done by 10mg increments, but not for a week each, in most cases, it's usually just a couple of days. But you need to follow your doctor's instructions, they are the final decider as to what is safest for you. I take three 10mg physeptone daily for chronic pain caused by lupus and fibromyalgia. Recently developed a virus which caused painful inflammation when dry coughing and extra pain throughout my body. I also did not realize I had a temp above 38c. My doctor prescribed 25mg prednisone for a week. Just in two days of taking prednisone I haven’t needed to take physeptone (I can’t take morphine based drugs). Prednisone has worked like a miracle in reducing pain. I realise lupus is an autoimmune disease and prednisone an immunosupressant. I’ve always balked against taking steroid based drugs because of the side effects but I can’t believe how well it works. Perhaps I should be taking prednisone as physeptone doesn’t kill the pain totally. ## Ultimately, you can r...

So I went to the doctor because I had flu like symptoms and a very sore throat with minor headaches. Hi. I just want to ask if a person has given 2 tablets of prednisone 20mg instead of 1 tab in just a day, does it mean, he/she needs to skip the another dose for tomorrow? ## Hello, Pranky! About every 6 to 8 weeks I go on a 16 day decreasing round of Prednisone starting w 40mg x 4 days, 30mg x 4 days, 20mg x 4 days, and 10mg x4 days. I have been doing this for 2 years. The results of the medicine are wonderful. I am 72, and actually have flashes of my youth from the drug. Near the end of the 6 to 8 weeks without the Prednisone I am quite miserable. 5mg once a day for 5 days so far isn't helping. Is taking four 5mg once a day the same dosage as taking one 20mg of prednisone? Or two 5mg the same as one 10mg pill. ## Prednisone is a steroid class medication and it is not safe to adjust the dosage on your own. If you take too high of a dosage, then suddenly lower it, or stop taking it, it can cause serious health problems. Additionally, this medication carries the risk of causing potentially dangerous side effects. Learn more Prednisone details here. If the prescribed dosage hasn't worked, then you need to see your doctor to discuss what your next options are for treatment. Are there any other questions or comments?

I have been on Prednisone for 3 months, taking 10mg a day. It was not for a pain condition, but rather to aid and support pregnancy. Now that I am 12 weeks pregnant, they are tapering me off. I am to go from 10mg to 5mg for a week, then 2.5mg for a week, then cease. I have been reading up on tapering and a LOT of people refer to dropping 1mg at certain intervals. Is going to 5mg then 2.5mg too fast? I'm unsure whether other people who are dropping 1mg do so because they were on a higher dose initially, but I did wonder..... Obviously i do not want to go into adrenal shock, particularly with the pregnanct. But I am also desperate to get off the Prednisone as well and have been counting the days to start tapering down. ## Yes, it really depends on how high of a dose you were on and fo...
