I have taken the 48 pac of prednisone before and it was a graduated dosage by the cards they were on - the prescription I received today was in a bottle and did not have any instructions on how to take them like the ones in the pac. I was cleaning my coffee pot with vinegar & water and it spilled out on my counter. My prednisone pills 10 milligrams were in a paper envelope. Most of them got wet and looks like they dissolved a little. But I took them out of the envelope to dry. Some of them fall apart when I pick them up. Is it still safe to take these. if the bottle says take 6 tablets a day for two days, then 5 tablets a day for two days, then 4 tablets a day for two days, then 3 tablets a day for 2 days, then 2 tablets a day for 2 days, then 1 tablet a day for two days, then 1/2 a tablet a day for two days. ## You should follow the instructions exactly as on the label, tapering is essential to prevent complications from withdrawing too fast, since this is a steroid class medication. You can take them all at once, or split them up throughout the day, taking them all at once may cause more side effects, such as nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and headache. Harvard Medical School also has a very similar article stating that many medications are good well beyond the 10 year mark. I have been prescribed to take 20 mg prednisone a day but haven't started taking it yet because of the scary side effects. I have been on Prednisone 10mg for approx. four years, can I just stop taking it or do I need to taper off? My doctor said I could just stop so I did. I just started a 10 day round of 10 mg of Prednisone 2x a day and I usually take either a Soma or an Alprazolam to help me sleep. Can I still take one of the meds to help me sleep? ## Hello Karen, Unfortunately if the doctor has not instructed you to continue taking the medication I would advise against it. Prescription medication should only be taken as the doctor has instructed. What I can tell you is that from what I read on the NIH drug interaction site predisone and soma do not have any listed interactions. I was prescribed 20 mg of prednisone for my allergies. This is my first day with the pill because yesterday I got a steroid shot . But since yesterday I can't sleep and my stomach hurts. A 90 year old woman was diagnosed with penumonia about 4 weeks ago which required hospitalization. She was placed on an antibiotics was not getting any better. Was rushed by ambulance to the hospital for choking and was placed on prednisone of 50 mg/day for a week with a plan to have the prednisone decreased by 10mg/day every week there after, until weaned.
