I take 1 KCl a day and since I started taking it I'd always have acid stomach or acid reflux. I had to take over the counter acid reducer. Can you tell me if I should stop taking this. I am taking many prescription medicines and there might be interactions. Thanks. ## Hello, Nitz! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Did your pharmacy not warn you that it can do that and should be taken with food? That's usually a very typical warning given for these potassium tablets, since they are so potent. It may also cause gas and bloating, as listed by the FDA. What other medications do you take? If you can post back with them, I'll gladly check for interactions for you. ## Thanks Verwon for your reply. Honestly, I already stopped taking the potassium t...

I was looking for information and discounts on Potassium chloride SA 10 meq CR capsules and only found info on Potassium chloride ER. What is the difference? What does the SA mean? ## These are all just abbreviations that designate it as being a time released formulation, the CR stands for controlled release, SA stands for Sustained Action, and ER stands for Extended Release. There are actually many different abbreviations that are used, but they all mean the same thing. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of confusion for many doctors and patients. If you read the NIH research studies, you will see that such large doses of potassium cannot be taken in just one dose due to how harsh they are on the stomach, thus all such prescription tablets are time released. The harshness is also why...

What are the side effects of Potassium Cl? ## My grandmother has been prescribed this medication (Potassium CL) and has discovered them completely whole in her bowel movements, why is this? ## Kimberly, when some medications are time released, the outer shell of the tablet is NOT meant to be digested and is just expelled as waste, however, the medication is still released and used by the body, just as it is supposed to be. I have been advised knee replacement since 2005 but my Gym exercises and sports , albeit pain 24*7 doesn't allow it since I'm just 61 years old and quite healthy. My Dr says I have low potassium she gave me pot chloride m 20. When I take this drug, in the morning . By that afternoon I have a sensation like some one hit me in the heart and hot lava goes down my arms. And its like I am dying. It is really really scary .why is this happening. No one knows why. ## Hello, Deborah! How are you? Potassium can be very, very harsh on your stomach, so my guess is that it's ramping up your stomach acid production, since those same symptoms can occur with GERD. Have you tried making sure not to take it on an empty stomach? You also may want to ask about taking an antacid, while you're on it.

I take it in the a.m. I also take Metoprolol succinate 75mg in the evening. Is this ok to combine with the other medications mentioned above? ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions, multiple medications are often prescribed to help lower high blood pressure as fast, and as safely as possible. Diabetic- stage 4 kidney failure on 40 mg Lasix daily 80 meq Potassium Chloride ER daily. Seems like a lot of Potassium. Doctor won't talk to me about it just tells me to take it. ## The medication Lasix is used to help remove excess fluid from the body, but while doing so, it also tends to remove potassium, which is why such supplements are often prescribed along with it. 80meq is not really that high of a dose. It is very important to maintain a good potassium level as being either too high or too low can both cause dangerous health problems. The FDA warns that it is very rough on the stomach and should be taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with?
