Potassium 20 Meq

Hi I have been on 20 meq 3 times a day for a week. My potassium levels were at 2.2 at the time the doctor prescribed them for me. I am on 20 mg of lasix a day for kidney issues. I am going back to doc next week for more blood work. Do you think my levels will be increased greatly? ## They should improve over the week, but there's no way to say how much. I've generally found them to work very fast, though. The FDA warns that they can be very hard on the stomach, so they should be taken with food. As to the low potassium levels, Lasix has been known to cause that, so you might want to ask your doctor about switching to a potassium sparing diuretic. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I take 2 tabs of pot chor a once ## hi woody why do you want to take 2? 2-20mg=40mg which is a commonly prescribed dose, but too much potassium can be just as bad as not enough. if your on water pills and its causing leg cramps you may need a higher dose, you should check with your doc. ## I know it's sometimes easier to take two doses of potassium at once, but it is not a good idea. Your body doesn't store potassium, so you'll have too much for part of the day and none for the rest of the day. That defeats the purpose of two doses. If you double-up on the liquid form of potassium, it may act like a very strong, fast laxative. Your body will rid itself of too much liquid potassium. It's annoying & you will not have the potassium you need. Potassium is a serious d...

The symptoms your describing are not normal, but they could be caused by the condition being treated or the treatments. Have you spoken to your doctor about the dizziness, weakness and balance issues? ## US 20 contains 20meqs of Potassium and yes, it is a regular release tablet, so you can safely cut it in half or crush it to make it easier for him to swallow. Is there an OTC substitute for this? I cannot afford this. ## There are over the counter Potassium supplements that you can purchase. However, if yours is low and your doctor wants to bring it up fast, they are not going to work like this will. Have you tried pricing it at different pharmacies? There are generics available. The reason I ask is because I have a bottle here and the first pharmacy I called for a price wanted over $40 for 30 tablets of the generic, however, I called another and was able to get their generic, in this same dosage, for only $12. Low potassium can cause severe health problems, so it is not something you can let go and hope it resolves itself. i am prescribed potassium chloride extended release tablets, 10 mEq K. the instructions say not to lie down for 30 minutes. why is this? ## Hello, Monica! How are you? The reason is because potassium tends to be very harsh, it usually increases stomach acid production and, if you lay down within half an hour, you may experience reflux which could cause damage to your esophagus. Is there anything else I can help with?

My 1 year old son got ahold of my mother-in-law's potassium CL 20meq er tablets that expired 8/31/2013. I think he only took one. Should I take him to a doctor? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? There is no danger from them being expired, however, there can be problems if he gets too much potassium, it can cause heart and blood pressure issues. The only other typical side effect, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea due to the potency. Any time you are worried that someone may be in danger, especially a child, you should contact poison control or your nearest emergency services.

Hi my wife is taking. She had a trip to the hospital that resulted in this as well as several other RX. Am curious to know just how much potassium is this in English? And what is a normal daily intake of Potassium? Thank you. ## Hi Ed, Sorry to hear about your wife having to go to the hospital. I hope she's doing a lot better as of the time you posted this thread. Concerning the dosage of 20 mEq, this translates to 1500 mg (milligrams). In terms of what amount someone is supposed to have each day, it may vary depending on several factors (i.e. things like: age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, hypertension, renal disorders, etc)... However, for the average adult, colostate.edu recommends a dosage of 4,700 mg per day. Hope this helps! ## Are you sure about the recommendation of 4700 mg of p...

Potassium ## I need further information regarding Cal ~ K DIN # 00525162 ## This is a just a supplement that is prescribed when someone is severely low in the vital nutrients it contains, Potassium and Calcium. They are very important to your body and being deficient in them has the potential to cause some serious health problems, some of which could be life threatening. It can be harsh on the stomach, so it may cause nausea and stomach pain, thus it is best taken with food. Are there any other questions? ## I have pain in my leg and my hands feel like they are swollen. Would this be a symptom of low potassium? ## The symptoms you describe should be evaluated by a physician. Do not try to guess at the cause and self-treat. You may make things worse and harder for your doctor to find the...

I have been given a prescription by my physician for "Pot Chl Powder 20mEq" a month ago and I have been diluting a packet of it in 4 ounces (or more) of water and taking it two times daily. I seem to feel somewhat better; however, I have developed a problem since starting. I should also mention that I am also taking a blood pressure pill called "BenicarHCT'. In this period I have started having serious sight problems. Could this be the problem? ## Hello, Marian! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you've been having. It is most likely from the Benicar HCT, since the potassium is just a supplement. These blood pressure medications can sometimes cause that in some people who take them and you may need to switch to a different one. What types of visi...

I was taken one 10 MEQ of potassium once a day. Now they tell me I need to take 50 mg a day, but I called the pharmacy and they said that I need to take two of 10 MEQ capsules a day. So that is 20 meq. But is that too much potassium in a day? Because potassium comes in MEQ not mg. So should I take 2 tabs a day or go back to just 1 tab a day? They said that the 10 meq is equal to 750 mg so that is 1500 mg a day. Is that going to be to much potassium. ## I am taking one 10 meq of citrate potassium 4 times a day, 1 chiorthalidone 25 mg, & 2, 20 meg potassium cl er micro, i have my blood checked each month my potassium is always low & lately i am very itchy on my arms. What time of day is this med best ingested ## The dosing instructions for this medication do not list a specific time of day that one should take it, so I assume that you can use it at your own convenience. The adult dosing information for Potassium Chloride is posted below in regards to 'Prevention of Hypokalemia': "Oral: 10 to 20 mEq orally once a day given in equally divided doses using formulations which include normal-release tablets or capsules, extended-release tablets or capsules, dissolvable tablets, oral solution or powder for dissolution mixed with an appropriate volume of water or juice." I hope this helps! ## Can a SA form of potassium Cloride be dissolved and ingested mixed with pudding or applesause?

Have you tried contacting local pharmacies to get price quotes? I had to pick up the 20meqs and here in the Seattle area, since this is a generic, it was only around $20 for 30 tablets.

I am taking 10 mg lasix twice daily and 20 meq potassium daily. Is this a good ratio? ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Are these the doses your doctor has prescribed? There's really no definitive rate that I can give you for how much potassium Lasix depletes from the body, it can vary from person to person. Have you actually tested as being low in potassium? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. The potassium is known to irritate the stomach, so it should only be taken with food.

My doctor prescribed these pills for me for 10 days twice a day but didn't explain if I had to avoid certain foods and I am also wondering why I have to take them for 10 days? ## No, there is no list of foods you should avoid, but you should make sure not to take it on an empty stomach, because the FDA warns that it is very harsh on the stomach. You should take it for the duration your doctor has directed, to bring your potassium levels back up to a safe zone. My wife was prescribed potassium years ago. Does not remember mg or meq.We assume it was 10or 20 meq.She is now taking Oct potassium 99mg.How many 99mg would she take to get 10meq? She is diabetic and keeps it under control. ## Hello, Nick! How are you? There is no actual conversion for this, these 99mg over the counter potassium supplements aren't even close to the amount available in the prescription tablets. Additionally, it is not safe to take that much, unless her doctors has said she is dangerously low in it and needs to supplement it. Is there anything else I can help with?

Con you tell me how many bananas I have to eat to get the same amount of potassium as one klor-con m20 tab? ## Hello, Frank! How are you? From what I can find, they estimate approximately 1 mEq per inch of banana, so you'd need to eat 20 inches of banana for each tablet you are supposed to take. It would likely be easier to just take the tablets, rather than eating bananas all day, every day. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the information. I was curious. That is a lot of bananas especially in light of the fact I'm not that crazy about bananas. The pill, though, is a bit hard to swallow. Again, thank you for the effort. ## A FAIRLY SMALL BANANA IS APPROX. SIX INCHES, SO 3 OR 4 BANANAS IS NOT ALL THAT MUCH. IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN THE PILL IN MY OPINION...

Just wondering why I can't lay down for 30 min after taking potassium? Never had any warnings on my prescription in 7 years but is on the one i picked up today. ## Hello, Penny! How are you doing? It is due to the fact that this medication could cause excess stomach acid, if you lay down within 30 minutes of taking it, it could result in severe reflux, which may result in damage to your esophagus, according to NIH reports. It's harshness is also the reason you should always take it with food. Is there anything else I can help with?
