What are the side effects of Potassium Cl? ## My grandmother has been prescribed this medication (Potassium CL) and has discovered them completely whole in her bowel movements, why is this? ## Kimberly, when some medications are time released, the outer shell of the tablet is NOT meant to be digested and is just expelled as waste, however, the medication is still released and used by the body, just as it is supposed to be. Many of these types of medications will even carry warnings about this in the drug monographs. Side effects can include: high potassium levels, nausea, diarrhea and muscle weakness. Did you have any other questions? ## Mom has always taken K CR and now it is ER. What is the difference. I thought CR meant time release. ## Kimberly, I really doubt that answer. I Also ta...

I was looking for information and discounts on Potassium chloride SA 10 meq CR capsules and only found info on Potassium chloride ER. What is the difference? What does the SA mean? ## These are all just abbreviations that designate it as being a time released formulation, the CR stands for controlled release, SA stands for Sustained Action, and ER stands for Extended Release. There are actually many different abbreviations that are used, but they all mean the same thing. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of confusion for many doctors and patients. If you read the NIH research studies, you will see that such large doses of potassium cannot be taken in just one dose due to how harsh they are on the stomach, thus all such prescription tablets are time released. The harshness is also why...

Can the side effects include stiffness & cramps in both hands? ## Hello, Paul! How are you? That means that they contain 20 milliequivalents per tablet, that's the dosage and the ER denotes them as being time released. The main side effect of this supplement, as listed by the FDA, is stomach pain and nausea, so it's best to take it with food. As to the stiffness and cramping, that is most likely caused by your potassium being low, but you should have it checked out, just in case. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am taking lots chloride 10meg er cap for potassium but I still get leg and arm cramps. So I stopped taking them for a week no cramps. So what gives.

They are both the same, a potassium supplement in a time released formulation. The FDA warns that it can be very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Also Basic Metabolic Panel. Thank you for answering. Pamela

What does CR stand for after 10 MEQ? I have one bottle with the CR letters and one bottle with the letter K after 10 MEQ. Are they the same? Susan ## From what I can tell, it seems they are, but you should probably check with your pharmacist to be certain, just in case they are using something different in their labeling system. But the CR usually stands for controlled release and some places also use the K for slow release, which is basically the same thing. Where they both filled at the same pharmacy? ## what is the difference between Potassium CHL Tab 10MEQ CR and Potassium CL 10MEQ ER? ## Received refill of Pot Chloride tab 10 meq cr when always previously rec'd 10 meq er. Is there a difference and should I be concerned? Thank you!
