My husband has post herpetic neuralgia and has tried all medications (like Lyrica, Gabapentin, Nucleo CMP, laser treatment, acupuncture). For the past 5 years, the pain has been managed but lately his pain is back and more intense. He does not want to depend on these medicines anymore because of its side effects. Is there someone who can recommend an alternative? He is 60 years old. ## He might try gallium maltolate skin cream, which many people with postherpetic neuralgia say has helped relieve their pain. Anyone know of a cream or compounded ointment for relief of severe pain from post herpetic neuralgia? I’ve suffered with this for 21 years now, down back of leg and around ankle and foot. I’m so tired of fighting the pain. I take gabapentin, tramadol, and amytriptline which help some, but the pain is alway there, stabbing and burning, making it difficult to wear clothing. This is so depressing I don’t even want to leave the house anymore. ## Hello, Patti! I am so sorry about what you're dealing with, that's horrible. Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific cream, or compounded cream that I can recommend, but you might want to ask your doctor about prescribing Lidocaine patches, or a compounded cream with Lidocaine in it, since it is a topical anesthetic...

Besides drowsiness, dry mouth, I have gained 5 kg weight(from 63 to 68 kgs) in the last three months and have developed severe constipation. Also there is a conspicuous droop of left eyelid which is now almost obstructing my vision. Earlier I was suffering from severe pain in the effected area (left side of sotmatch from naval to my backbone), sudden stabbing sensation and attacks of itching, which has now decreased to 40%. The dosage of Pregabalin has now been reduced to 1xtds. Request advise with special reference to constipation and weight gain. ## Have you consulted your doctor, again? Pregabalin is an an...

Has anyone else found that the "New" Opanas are not as effective as the old ones for pain control? I have post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia. I am hoping that the generics will be like the old ones. This is crazy. ## Unfortunately yes, there have been quite a few people complaining about the reformulated ones, even though they are new. The problems seem to range from their causing odd side effects, to their not being as effective, as you've experienced. Learn more about the Opana details here. As far as I am aware, at this time, the generics have not been reformulated, yet. However, this could change at any given time, or the FDA might cause them to be done away with altogether, in similar fashion to Oxycontin. Have you talked to your doctor about the issue? Or maybe asked y...

I have nerve damage, shingles, fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, the list goes on and on! I can't have Lyrica, Cymbalta, or Gabapentin. They are not approved , and they continue to reject the approval no matter how many request are submitted. What can I do? ## I am sorry, who is that is not approving them for you? Your insurance company?? You are not very specific in your post, so it is a little confusion. If they are claiming that these drugs are not approved to treat these types of conditions, then that is incorrect because both Cymbalta and Lyrica are approved by the FDA to treat post-herpetic neuralgia. If you can give me an idea of the type of insurance you have, I can try to research their formulary to see what they will cover for you, so you can discuss other opti...
