A friend took a pill from a guy and he said it was a "painkiller". The pill was white with numbers on it and when she put it in her mouth and it touched her saliva, it turned red. She threw the rest in the toilet and they also turned red when they touched the water... Later on that day she fainted and was sent to the hospital where they made her puke most of it out but still not sure if it's out of her bloodstream..does anyone know what it might be??? ## Dear Katherine, Sorry to hear about what happened to your friend. I suppose there's no way of knowing for sure what it is without a chemical analysis of some sort. There may also be no way of knowing if this chemical is what caused her to fall ill or if it was something else in the tablet's composition. However, my r...

what is this pill? One side says "SCI", and the other side is just.."4" ## Where was it found/obtained? Was it in the U.S. or elsewhere? I'm not finding this listed in the U.S. prescription drug databases and have never seen this marking, before. With that marking, it leads me to suspect that it may be something that is available over the counter, but there is also a chance that it could be a foreign medication. Does anyone recognize this tablet? ## Help? Anyone? My child just found a bag of these and ate one. Not sure what it is! ## Becca, anytime that your child, or anyone else, takes something that is unidentified, you should call your nearest poison control or emergency services. What is it used for and how safe is it? And what other medicine should you not use with it? ## It is supposedly a very safe medicine to take. Activated charcoal is a traditional remedy for treating excess stomach and intestinal gas. It works by attracting excess gas in the stomach and bowels, which binds to the surface of the charcoal powder. This relieves the discomfort caused by excess gas (flatulence), wind, indigestion and heartburn. The charcoal is not absorbed from the gut. Activated charcoal is also used in hospital emergency departments to treat poisoning. However, when used in this way, activated charcoal is given in much larger doses than those contained in this preparation. You should never attempt to treat poisoning yourself with this preparation. Cases of poisoning should a...

My 1 year old son got ahold of my mother-in-law's potassium CL 20meq er tablets that expired 8/31/2013. I think he only took one. Should I take him to a doctor? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? There is no danger from them being expired, however, there can be problems if he gets too much potassium, it can cause heart and blood pressure issues. The only other typical side effect, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea due to the potency. Any time you are worried that someone may be in danger, especially a child, you should contact poison control or your nearest emergency services.

I have an open wound It burns. I have been cleaning with peroxide and using Neosporin It's now red around it. Don't know how I got it. Also I have tiny red spots, maybe ant bites or poison ivy. They itch. Because of these I can't sleep. I have a few SMZ/TMP. Can I use them.? ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? Actually, you shouldn't be using peroxide on it, it can actually damage the surrounding healthy tissue and delay or prevent healing. In most cases, when it is used, it's just for the initial cleaning of the wound, but usually, your better off just cleaning it with soap and water. Have you consulted your doctor? You should have this checked out, especially since it's gotten red around it and you have those other tiny spots. This might not be the right antibiotic t...
