Because too much Potassium can be just as dangerous as not enough, so the amounts used and the amounts in the body MUST be carefully monitored. There are generics available, you will really just have to shop around to try and find the best price available in your area or online.

Is this simply potassium chloride (KCl) ? ## Hi Rodger, Yes you are correct, except Micro-K is a brand name for the 'Extended-Release' version of Potassium Chloride (KCl). Can this medication be taken with amoxicillin ## There are no interactions listed between the two, since the Potassium is just a nutritional supplement, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. You should be careful with the Potassium, because it can be very irritating to your stomach, so make sure not to take it without having eaten. Hi I have been on 20 meq 3 times a day for a week. My potassium levels were at 2.2 at the time the doctor prescribed them for me. I am on 20 mg of lasix a day for kidney issues. I am going back to doc next week for more blood work. Do you think my levels will be increased greatly? ## They should improve over the week, but there's no way to say how much. I've generally found them to work very fast, though. The FDA warns that they can be very hard on the stomach, so they should be taken with food. As to the low potassium levels, Lasix has been known to cause that, so you might want to ask your doctor about switching to a potassium sparing diuretic. Is there anything else I can help with?
