I have recently had lots of anal bleeding, headaches, blood in nose. Today I called my doctor and he advised me to stop taking the effient and aspirin. He has given me a prescription for plavix today. This is a scary drug for me... ## Plavix contains Clopidogrel, which works a little differently, rather than thinning the blood to cause bleeding, it just inhibits clotting. That means you still need to be careful not to injure yourself, but there is less chance of the random bleeding like you were experiencing. Learn more Plavix details here. What are you taking it to treat? ## I have opted out of all the drugs that the cardiologist prescribed. I am now being treated by a naturalpathic doctor. Its much better and I'm no longer sick. The drugs were doing more damage than the heart atta...

I only took two of twenty tablets, bloody urine and bloody stools, really screwed up my plateles and lots of boodwork that had always been normal, regarding bloodwork, after four month still new doc trying to cure after effects ## Hello, Tom! How are you? If you only took 2 tablets, then it's not very likely that adverse effects would still be lingering months later. Thus, I really think you may have something else going on that isn't related to this antibiotic. Just because your blood work used to always be normal, doesn't mean that you may not develop a health condition that changes it, so it's no longer normal. What type of doctor are you seeing for this? ## I'm on plavix 75mg and I was wondering if Augmentin 875mg would cause a side affect to my blood thinner tha...

My husband is taking the following medications: Olmetec 40mg + Zanidip 10mg + Plavix 75mg + Lasix 40mg + Cartia aspirin 100mg; 1 each morning. He is also taking: 2 Panadol Osteo 5mg x 3 times daily + 1 Pregabalin 25mg + 1 Vytorin 10/40mg at night. All prescribed by his GP. He had a triple bypass in 2014; stents 1 in Feb, 2 in Nov 2016; Radical prostectomy for cancer in 2006; Radiation for secondary cancers in 2009; Neurosurgery for a subdural hemorrhage in 2013. He has had breathing problems and used inhalers off and on for 4 years (is now off these). He does have asbestos fibers in his lungs, but thankfully no major problems there. But he is having problems with tiredness throughout the day and is constantly sleeping. Is this due to the mixture of drugs he is on now?

What are the long term effects of aspirin? ## my father is taken aspirin 30mg this that can cause bleeding in the nose ## It is possible, since it does thin the blood, however, there is no way for us to say for sure. I suffered a similar problem when I was on narcotic pain management. Aspirin can also increase the risk of gastro-intestinal bleeding. You can read more about it here: My suggestion would be that he consult his doctor, so they can check and see if the nose bleeds are being caused by the Aspirin or something else. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I am on Plavix and feel this drug induces erectile dysfunction problems. In case it is replaced by ASPRIN will such problems still occuror would be finished.

took plavix over 20 years. doc took me off and i noticed really bad headaches. could it be a withdrawal side effect? ## If you were taking it for that long and just suddenly stopped abruptly, without tapering off of it, then yes, that can happen as a withdrawal effect. Learn more Plavix details here. It should taper off in severity soon, after your body starts to adjust to no longer having the medication, but if it doesn't or if it gets worse, then you should seek immediate medical attention, because rebound effects can also occur from stopping such a medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## i wonder why the doctor didnt tell us this... my head has been killing me for 3 or 4 weeks now... shuld i start the plavix again for a week or o until the headaches stop and then b...

I don't drink everyday but sometimes a couple nights in a row for events. I also take 75mg plavix. Is it safe? ## No, not really. Alcohol and Plavix can both cause blood thinning as side effects, according to the FDA, so taking them together heightens your risk of experiencing dangerous bleeding episodes. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, and easy bruising. How much do you usually drink?

Brilinta is newer than Plavix and a superior medicine if you can tolerate it. I experienced dizziness, confusion, and chest pain for about three months while taking Brilinta following a stent procedure. I recently switched to Plavix and the side effects have gone away. I recommend trying Brilinta if you can tolerate it because it is slightly superior for avoiding a heart attack or stroke, however if you continue to have side effects you might want to switch to Plavix.

I have Narcolepsy and have been taking various drugs (e.g. Adderall, Dexotrine, Vyvanse) for the condition for the past 8 years. I recently had stints inserted into two arteries (one was almost completely closed). My wife feels that I should not take any stimulant medications since being diagnosed with artery problems. She is also convenienced that stimulant drugs cause me to be quick to anger and also increase intensity of anger. Please advise. ## The PLUTO-Diabetes study revealed substantial differences in the platelet-related effects of 1-month treatment with clopidogrel and ASA combination versus ASA alone in diabetic patients. Indeed, addition of clopidogrel to ASA significantly decreases various measures of platelet activity after 30 days of treatment. Importantly, this study prov...

I had a heart attack and DES stent and was told to take Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. I quit taking Plavix after 6 months even though my cardiologist wanted me to take it for 2 years. I also quit taking the Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. Well that was 9 months ago when I stopped taking everything and I feel great. My doctor says I was lucky that nothing happened. Lucky? Luck has nothing to do with it! I became a vegan and follow the Ornish diet strictly. I take vegan Omega3's. I also take coq10, a multi-vitamin, and drink unprocessed cocoa. I exercise. My LDL without drugs is 70. My bp is 105/70. To hell with Plavix. ## Actually, the reason your doctor said you were lucky is due to the rebound effects that suddenly stopping such medications can cause. These effects ca...

Can Plavix cause erectile dysfunction or reduce the efficacy of Viagara? ## What are all the side effects of plavix or clavix? Could any E.D. problem occur due to this? ## Yes, any medication like this can cause erectile dysfunction. Ultimately, you need increased blood flow, these medications thin the blood, so thus, you do not get the needed blood flow. As to Viagra, please remember it is not a miracle drug, it can help, but will not make you instantly erect and turned on, you will still need the normal stimulation!

I'm s/p stroke and taking plavix. Can I take flexeril for my back pain? ## Hello, Gigi! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between them, but with your medical history, I wouldn't suggest taking the Flexeril unless your doctor has said it is safe for you to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I just read on google not to take Flexaril and plavix too many dangerous side effects!

Hi, My name is Michael and I've been on Plavix for the last 3 months. About a month ago or so I completely lost my taste. I thought I was going crazy; however, I found out that there are other people having the same taste lost side effect like me. I was wondering if anyone here had the same problem and if you have been able to regain your taste somehow and also what did you do to regain your taste? I would really appreciate a repy to this email as I am getting desperate and nobody can help me. Thank you very much for your time and consideration to this. My doctor had me stop taking plavix after one year. One month later I had another heart attack. Now my doctor has told me to stay on plavix for ever. Has anyone else had a heart attack because they stopped taking plavix? ## Plavix contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel, which is used to help inhibit clotting. Have they directly related your heart attack to clotting from stopping the Plavix? Rebound effects are always a risk, when someone stops these types of medications abruptly. However, there is no way to know if any given person may experience them. ## Yes, both of my doctors said it was most likely that I stoped the plavix that caused the heart attack. So they now have said for me stay stay on it for the rest of my life. I check with anoth group of doctors in another city and th...

Has anyone had blurred vision while on Plavix? Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I have been on Plavix for 9 months, after having a stroke and then a heart attack... I accidentally took my grandma's Plavix two nights in a row instead of my Zoloft. Is that ok? ## Hi Summer, Sorry to hear about your accidental mishap with Plavix. How have you been feeling lately since the timing of your post? With Plavix being an anticoagulant (blood thinning agent) vs Zoloft being an antidepressant, I can't imagine how the difference in effects must've felt, even before discovering that you took the wrong medication. Something else to consider is that as a result of this occurrence, your grandma will be two days short on her meds and might be at risk of withdrawal effects as well as yourself, depending on how long & how often you've taken Zoloft. I hope all is well and look forward to reading any future updates you may have.

will taking plavix and lipitor have any effect on a dui bac? ## They aren't going to change the results, per se, but they can make alcohol have more of an effect on you than normal, so you may seem more impaired than usual after just a few drinks. In addition, it can cause some of the side effects to worsen, such as dizziness, drowsiness and nausea, which may contribute to the problem, in addition, alcohol can also thin the blood, which can increase the risk of bleeding, when it is used with the Plavix. Are there any other questions?

I take plavix , ecosprin and wafarin daily. what are effects of it in the long run. can i stop one of it ## Plavix contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel, it is used to inhibit blood clotting. It can cause low white cell count or hemmorhage. Ecosprin contains Aspirin, it is also generally used for its blood thinning properties. Warfarin is another blood thinner. As to stopping any of these, this site is not medical professionals and do not know your medial history. Only you and your doctor can decide that. Have you talked to them about it?
